psn is great, its free. It does what its supposed to do and it does it well. Of course you get more on live, but thats why its free. I would say resistance runs smoother online than any game i have ever played though.

depends on what you're looking for. some would say a Honda Accord is "a better value" than a BMW 745i. But I tell you one damn thing: I'd rather drive the BMW...

I would gladly pay $100 a year for PSN if it offered half of what XBL brings to the table.

As for performance issues, I haven't seen a stitch of lag plaing Gears, R6 Vegas,  or PGR3.

its about the principal. No on else charges for online, yet ms thinks it can. PC doesnt. Wii doesnt. PC doesnt. MS does??? Anyway, i can use the analogy you all hate. 360 + 4 years of live = 600$ PS3 + 4 years of psn + 60gb hard drive + blu ray + card slots + wifi = 600$. Dont even try to argue about value.

When it comes to online:

PS3 = Honda Accord

360 = BMW 745i

do you want "sufficient"...or do you want a "rich, enthusiast" online experience? You choose. I'll enjoy all of them, but there's no question about which one is the best designed, most useful, most efficient and entertaining online experience. Fanboys suggesting otherwise are grasping at straws. PC, Wii and PS3 don't charge for online, but none of them are doing what MS is trying to do by unifying the online service, providing tons of downloadable content, movies and more in a clean, solid package.

Wake me when I can talk to friends on my PSN master list without having to exit a game to do so. Wake me when I can substitute music on my HD with the in-game music. wake me when I can maintain conversations while switching games. wake me when there are achievements built into the games and other measurements of gaming successes that keep people playing games for longer.

I'll be sleeping. Oh, and playing VF5 :

.... I think its immpossible to answer this because PSN is still too new ... overtime it may surpass or equal XBL or it may not ... However its free and that is a HUGE plus ...

  to me its -- buy a 360 4 $600 + $100(live) + $180(WiFi - yes i need it) ...  = $880
    OR
                -- buy a PS3 - $1000 + $0PSN + $0 (WiFi) = $1000

  due to the fact that i must have a PS3 for the games and plan on getting a gettiong a second console ( AKA 360 ) in mid - late 2008 i feel PS3 offers me the better value due to it has the games i want and Blu-ray ... for a mere $180 more ...

 ** Prices are based on Australian prices ... cause ima Aussie ...

As someone who uses both I'd say that XBL is better by landslide. There really isn't any functionality the PSN does that the 360 already doesn't do.

Even if they tried to step it up. Microsoft will just kick it in gear and still be ahead of the pack. Sony should have did something a long time ago. They let this juggernaut (XBL) gain momentum it's kinda too late.

Runescape is a "better value" than World of Warcraft. . .yet which game would you rather play online? $4 bucks a month to play every 360 game that has online features, online is nothing compared to paying $15 a month for WoW. Yet over 8 million people pay for WoW. This is all fanboy fluff by cows. The truth is I get a quality online gaming experience for every game with online features, all for the price of a fast food meal a month. 1 game featuring good online gameplay on PSN means nothing since every developer is forced to host and build their own online networks. Resistance might be good but it's already been seen that developers would rather drop online support for the PS3 than have to deal with trying to host their own servers. If you're happy with free online but only a handful of games supporting it then go right ahead. But don't try and devalue XBL, because near every 360 supports online all for the price of $4/month. If I had to choose. . .it's a no brainer.

The real value of XBL is that developers have a standard platform to put there on-line games on.

This means they don't have to pay, test or maintain their own on-line servers.

Which means a higher percentage of games on the 360 will have on-line play.

Sony should have started doing this years ago.

XBL is much more advance, even Sony admit it. Sony are just getting started in comparison. And also to put the ''it's free'' agument into perspective, to run your PS3's you'll be paying $40 a year more in electricity than we pay to run our 360's.

The statement "PC doesn't charge for online" makes absolutely no sense.  There is no PC console.  Online PC gaming is an incredibly diverse process and has various levels of support and fees.  There is no comprehensive or unifying service.  Xfire would be the closest thing but that's different than PSN and XBL.

Even without mulitiplayer the free version of Live is a better value over the free version of PSN!
The slogan should be: With all the features of Live (including soon to be enabled Live Anywhere features), even the 2% of broke, crying fanboys will now be content with Xbox Live Silver.

Very true. And as far as I've heard, that's where PSN falls short as well. I personally hope PSN improves and does well, forcing MS to either drop the price of XBL or remove it completely. I don't mind paying $50 a year at all, as long as MS keeps expanding the service with new functionalities.

Agreed. And nowadays, you can usually find XBL for a lot cheaper than $50 if you look hard enough (got mine from K-mart for $36, that store is good for something at least!). Check deal sites like slickdeals.net and fatwallet.com every now and then and you're sure to come across a deal. If XBL ever does become free, it would be cool if MS did something that converted your remaining XBL time to marketplace points :D

That's a great analogy. But I would say that PSN is to Live as an electric car is to a BMW 745i. The electric car will get you from point A to B, but it isn't always available. It needs to be re-charged every day for 4 hours.

both have their pros and cons..PSN is free all around...and XBL is not.

however XBL has a bigger selection of D/L games on arcade as well as being able to try out these games before buying unlike PSN.

but I know what you're gonna say Cows..."buh buh if sony allowed you to try out the D/L games before buying,the Ps3 would've been $999.99 instead of 599.99" :roll:

Seriously, Cows just want to be cheap & try to say that PSN is the best online service just because it's "free."

PSN doesn't even compare to X-Box Live. It's like a blatant copy off of the original X-Box Live from the original X-Box. $50 for a year is chump change nowadays (that's about $4.17 a month), & that X-Box Live Gold has much more to offer than PSN. Online play is also better on 360 than on PS3.

Also, without X-Box Live, we wouldn't even be having Wiiware or PSN right now.

I don't really care paying 40 bucks a year for a great service.
