if a developer was to put out 3 games of the same series in just 4 years would you be ok with that or would you think that was to many

really depends on if the quality is dropping or the formula barely changes/they rehash the same type of environments.

Uncharted has been a good series consistantly and varied :P strange to see a game like this always have a quick turn around of 2years ish though.

That's every 2 years in other words. It seems the right amount.

It would also depend on the developers work ethic...

Using the same engine for all three would be ok, if they found the right balance of upgrading it whilst working on new content.

But using a new engine for all three would mean a distinct lack of content for each game, as resources would likely have to be built up from scratch.

Eh, I'd say it was much improved. Uncharted 1 didn't really hold my interest at all, but Uncharted 2 was pretty awesome.

As long as the quality is good I've no problem. I don't think anyone had a problem with GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas in 4 years :D

Nope, 3 games of the same franchise per gen seems like a pretty good distribution imo. Perfectly fit for a trilogy.

If the games are good then they could come out every week and I wouldn't care.

Quality is important and if you have it in you to put out a game on a decent schedule and maintain the quality, then more power to you.

that depends. if it's nintendo or activision, then it's milking. if it's a series you (not necessarily you, TC) like, then it's fine.

Not at all. The reason people don't like COD coming out once a year is because there's been no fundamental changes to the formula since CoD4 (but even then, it still resembles Call of Dut 2 more or less).

We complain most about development time. Naturally, it takes time to create and innovate. But if they could release episodic content at a regular basis for a regular price and the game is just as good or better than the first entry into the series, I don't see why not. When I finish a game (in the rare instance that I do) there's nothing I want more than to wait for the next game. Anything to speed up that wait.

As for my own opinion, hayul naw!

well, they take typically 2 years to develop for many competent studios and publishers, so once the first game releases about four years from then the 3rd one will, so within a 4 year time frame this happens quite a bit

Don't ask me lol I'm still playing Call of Duty. THE reason people don't want yearly releases is because of the short development time (first thing that pops into mind is a cut and paste job). CoD thrives on its multiplayer, but people want to feel like they've made a sound investment. You don't want to know that you're paying 60 bucks for a year's worth of play (if even that), then by this time next year, the next iteration comes out and the community empties.

When I say episodic, I mostly mean story-driven games (Mass Effect). If the base game is great, further tweaks and the same graphics I am okay with. I just want story continuation. Honestly, if they released Mass Effect 3 next week with the same everything from ME2, I would not complain.

I don't have a problem. Then again I expect more then just a cosmetic change and some new modes, I expect a fundamentally better core and more impactful changes. If you're just releasing the same thing, don't bother.

While partly true, a game developper that doesn't change a thing in a sequel isn't good, even if it ain't broke. They should at least try to upgrade some points, perfect the balance (mutliplayer), add more polish and possibly dwelve deeper into the characters.

This. Halo has been bashed by certain sections of this community as being "milked" when its basically coming out at the same speed as most series.

Generally speaking no. Of course if you like a game series why not get a new experience with a familiar environment every year. In reality many people pick up every second or third installment on annual games (Madden ect).

I'm fine when the same quality is still there. When games like cod become worse. Thats when they shouldn't.

Depends on the series.

shinrabanshou

Uncharted 1, 2, 3...
Call of Duty 4 (MW), WaW, MW2, BO, MW3...
Gears of war 1, 2, 3...
Halo 3, ODST, Reach...
Mass Effect 1, 2, 3...
Assassins Creed 1, 2, Brotherhood, 3...

Those are some of the popular games this generation that did it, I can't say i'd complain about it happening, because the majority of those games are pretty good.

With the state that the industry it is using millions upon millions of dollars to produce these games I believe it's ok that they do.

It's good to see a return an a franchise you've created, and if the games get better each time, more sales of said sequel only mean better produced games in the future.
