i understand the two problems.

1. there were 25+ rockband/guitarhero/djhero/etc games released in a period of 4 years.  too much.

2. people found electric guitars and drumsets to be house clutter

yet, a microphone isn't too much clutter.

Doubt it. Harmonix broke up with Viacom, so I don't see how.

Hopefully no. That series blew its load very quickly.

Seems that the focus has shifted from button pressing rhythm games, to rhythm games which are akin to ... 'Music Education' software. Like Rocksmith.

I'd like to see more of these types of games.

I'd pay happily for a game which could teach me 100+  songs on the guitar. I already play but I find these newer guitar-centric music games are very helpful.

I hope it takes a few years off. It was in danger of being run into the ground as much as Guitar Hero. Both series were fantastic in their prime though.

I hope not. Plastic instruments will be clogging up landfills for the next 200 years.

Guitar Hero 3 was just so good. And all good that songs that would be a fit for these games have basically been used already.

Barely any songs I liked in Rock Band 3.

You know what would be awesome? ROCKBAND KINECT.

Think about it, you wouldn't even need any instruments. You just play air guitar, or sing into the kinect, or even better, air drums!

Harmonix already stated it may come back some day, althou at this point there's much uncertainty...

Personally i'm a huge RB fan, always play my drums set multiple days a week.

I'm really happy with Rocksmith, but unfortunately i'm really into drums and not guitar so that game isn't for me :( also i do like the transition from make believe to actually playing the real deal in these rythm games, but knowing Harmonix they are probably only going to get back into the market when they feel they have some revolutionary concept in their heads... i would be super happy with just a better interface and double bass on the drums thou :)

Too bad, but you can have some more Just Dance.

We shall see. Unfortunately the genre kind of went out as quickly as it came.

Will forever be thankful to the series though for getting me into drumming, I have since moved on from my rock band kit to a real drumkit and hope to one day be part of a band. Would not have gotten to this point had it not been for the guitar hero series getting me more interested into music, and then the Rock Band series getting me into drumming.

RockSmith (ubisoft) looks pretty cool. Uses a real guitar and teaches you how to actually play. Considering picking up a inexpensive guitar and trying it out.
