I really enjoyed it, but yes, commercially it is a flop. Game didn't get its fare shake, likely due to the gaming political climate. Shame, because Crytek's main problems in recent years have been because of that, gaming politics. They were already in bad position from making the MC Master Race snowflakes go on full meltdown after Crysis 2 got the console treatment, still a damn good game, but wasn't pushing PC gaming to extremes where you'd need a PC with several years of high end settings future proofed into the hardware to run it. In Ryse's case, it was on the Xbox One when people were still upset about the reveal and direction the console was heading. No, didn't get its fair shake, neither did Dead Rising 3 for that matter. I'd of really loved to have seen a sequel, but Crytek wouldn't come to agreement with MS. MS was willing to fund the sequel if Crytek relinquished rights, Crytek chose to hold onto the IP because they had accumulated a lot of debt, a lot of closing and firings, a lot of unpaid workers. Word was they were holding onto the IP so they can declare bankruptcy on their financial obligations and sell the IP later to shore up capital once that was behind them. Currently they're reduced to nothing more than CryEngine support for developers using their engine; they're done for the most part. We'll likely never see a sequel or anything else from them, ever.
I really enjoyed the Colosseum mode too, when I was done with everything and grinding out the achievements, it was pretty behind me. Darn good for a launch game, easily better than anything of the PS4 launch exclusives. It took me a while to get to it, I put it off thinking I wouldn't like it given its reputation, but damn, I was surprised how much I enjoyed it when I finally did play it.
