Is sony gonna make a 40gb backwards compatible ps3?

I don't see any 60gb's anymore. I was thinking about getting the ps3 as a dvd player but might play some games on it.

If you're gonna get the PS3 as a DVD player you might as well get a PS2 instead, you can play PS2 games, DVD, and it's cheaper.

I think they said sometime back in an interview to not rule out BC in any future PS3 builds just yet, but don't quote me on it.

If they do, it would probably be in some sort of software emulation available on the PSN. Sony is also re-releasing older games on the PSN. You can find a 60 gig if you look. The 60 gig is the best sku and its a shame they discontinued that one.

I say get an 80 gig. Its like 85-95 percent backwards compatible.

the only ps3 i ever see is my friends, and its a 60gb... which is backwards compatible because he downloaded the patch.

I have been scouring eBay for standalone BR players. I could get one for about $250 new if I played my cards right. Overstock had a Samsung for $300, I believe. Im hoping for sub $200 soon.

If you get a stand alone, get one that is upgradeable through a firmware update. If not your screwed when Blu Ray profile 2.0 comes out.

It hasn't been announced, but I'd be very surprised if they aren't working on an emulation for the 40gig.
