At E305 Sony showed off a lot of fake representations of what was supposed to be the capabilities of the Playstation 3's hardware luring many naive devlopers into thinking this was the next big thing. Fast forward 1 year later and Sony shows off the real PS3 priced at $600 with downgraded hardware and a downgraded controller.

The complex programming on the hardware caused many publishers to spend exorbitant amounts of money attempting to live up to Sony's unrealistic expectations with the hopes of being able to make up that money off of the excitement of the PS3's launch. Needless to say, the launch was a disaster and many publishers are trying to make up profits by porting their games over to the 360.

The high price of the Playstation 3 is not benefiting Sony, publishers or consumers. Sony's phony promises trapped a lot of naive publishers and now they are afraid to release their content as they won't be able to make enough money off of the current userbase.

Why are people continuing to support Sony after their greedy attempts to push their blu-ray format into unsuspecting households have ended up screwing over hard working developers as a result?

I'd agree they are screwing devs, by chucking a console together and expectingdevs to completely change the way they make games.

Then Sony will come out and trump their $600 price tag with a $1000 console.

That, and that Sony overpromised and underdelivered. Not only consumers were fooled by this but also developers. The publishers were tricked into thinking Sony had a popular product, but once consumers caught wind of what was really happening everything went downhill from there.

First of all, WTH happened to Britney Spears, lol. Anyway, I think greed has a lot to do with it. Sure other companies like Microsoft, EA, etc. are greedy but with Sony's PS3 just shows they're the most greedy. They wanted to be number 1 in the video gaming business so bad, that they'll put anything in their console like (blu-ray, blue-tooth, tilt sensor, home built cell processor) just to get oohs and aahs from consumers looking at the specs. Unfortunately, these things are why the PS3 is dead last this next-gen.

Also Sony's greed caused them to lose tons of game exclusives. They probably thought, hey we're number 1 with the PS2 so game developers will jump aboard with us for the PS3, unfortunately that's not the case. They didn't want to pay for exclusives so so developers look at other consoles for real profits. Also they were so greedy they didn't even want to pay up for the rumble-feature at first. But they learned their lesson, maybe. So that's why they lost $2 billion dollars!

why would anyone say that? the whole reason sony has been getting **** on lately is because of the ps3s price, among other things. the gaming community as a whole isn't biased towards M$, most people just don't want to pay $600 for videogames when competitors have proven it can be just as fun for $400, $300, and/or $250. not to mention that games from last gen are still kicking this gen's games asses. i still have a hell of a time running through GoW, NG, DMC etc way more than i have fun with motorstorm, GeoW, any next-gen clancy game, etc.

And yet you lemmings will always scream. :o "$50 a year for XBL is not alot of money...you get what you pay for!"

The hypocracy of you guys astound me. Lemmings can't bash PS3's price tag becaue everytings' included. With all the money xbox fans have to pay out for add-ons and featues to make the xbox360 enjoyable as PS3out the box (xbl for example), they really can't say anyting bad about the PS3's price.

Any xbox fan bashing the PS3's price is based off stupidity because MS makes way more money off of it's fans with alloftheir nicke and dimings for features and services then Sony dose off of their fans from offering everyting to them right out of the box.

The :o "$599" argument gets old xbots, especially when 95% of you on this board proudly claim you pay $50 a yearfor xbox live.

More powerful in terms of CPU power or GPU? I can show proof that it has A LOT of potential in CPU:

http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/jan07/4837

GPU... I don't know.

But again, that's the POTENTIAL. No one has done it yet :?

PS3 has lots of potential to be a great gaming console.. It's only it's price thats letting it down. I fail to see why sony or the PS3 is destroying gaming.. nobody forced blue ray on me, I chose to get it.. If anything is destroying the game industry right now, it would have to be the Wii and it's wide selection mini games and it's dumbed down games for the those none gamers who like to play for 10 minutes then let there wiis collect dust after realizing it's just a big waste of time.. :| So basically if the wii carrys on being a success, you can forget about good games, they wont exist.. you will get the odd 1 ammongst all the mini games.

How much is XBL? Now how much is PSN? Oh and when Epic wanted to release free maps on Gears....it was sony who told MS to tell Epic they need to charge their fans because it make them get used to paying for things, which fits their business model?

GTFO...

The :o "$599" argument gets old xbots, especially when 95% of you on this board proudly claim you pay $50 a yearfor xbox live.

You just called me a Lemming? LOLOLOL

Dude, i'd bash PS3 for being $599 AND i'd bash 360 for charging for online and content that should have been included in the game in the first place.

Needless to say, the launch was a disaster and many publishers are trying to make up profits by porting their games over to the 360.iunderstand

Stopped reading right there.

SONY do destroy gaming ... they destroyed the Dreamcast with all their hype around the PS2 which wasn't that diffrent from the Dreamcast ..in fact the DC was online compatable straight from the box ... they tried the same again here with their "This is what it is capable of " hype and look at it ... at present the games are no diffrent from the 360 games and yet this Trojan Blu Ray player isn't showing anything near the hype imo.

its just ridiculous what people are syaing. first of all about sony tryin to win ppl over with their great consol and then letting everyonme down, well havin bought a PS3 on launch here in europe im quite happy to say it was everything i wanted it to be. it plays great it looks great and compared to lets say a PC of the same power not that expensive at all. the controler didnt get tuned down they just changed the shape, big nothing! and yes sony are losing exclusives but that is just the nature of the industry, developing games is becoming more expensive(on all platforms) so the game developers need to make more money, and the best way of doin this is selling more games. porting onto other platforms is inevitable because it makes developers money. nothing to do with SONY.

and btw why would sony wanna destroy their own buisness, its like a band murdering the audience! they have nothing to gain from it!

What I can say is Sony claiming 'backward capabilities ctraight out of the box, no having to download anything like our competition' .... but as it was launched here, guess what 'cost-cutting' measures were taken .... what does this have to do with the discussion, Sony is downgrading the trust which consumers have in the industry ...

360 had nothing but target renders at e3 2k5 also. Quit acting like Sony are a bunch of liars for showing target renders of games coming out in years when that is always done when there's no games even close to ready. And no one has even given a chance for the games to come out either before calling the target renders "lies". I mean Motorstorm is very close to the CGI trailer... obviously not as good but as close as you could expect during in-game.

Sony is trying to progress the game industry towards an all in one entertainment platform with huge big budget awesome games and a download service for small games. They're giving the best value to consumers by far and will provide great games like they did with PS2.... what is wrong with people that they think PS3 is the devil and sucks in every way. Nothing is going to be different from PS2 to PS3 other than it being better and better.

Finally, a topic that isn't "Wii Destroy Gaming"

Yes, I would believe that the PS3 will definetly destroy gaming for everyone!!! Why??? Because of the fact that its $599 US dollars and how they hyped everyone with CGI footage back at 2005, not to mention that Blu-Ray was added on for a marketing ploy tomake Blu-Ray a standard for the next-gen movie player!!! If Sony would have sold a lot of PS3's with a high price tag, then it would have been a disaster for the console market and the growth of the industry will shrink!!!
