I have an old 80gb and I am not even upset about owning console that is more expensive than the news ones and less hard drive space. Why regret for something so unimportant?

No more than MS is upsetting their customers with different HDD options.

Why would you be upset? Part of Marketing is to change things up to generate interest in your product. You bought it first and you have been playing it wayy before the person who bought his system has. Plus the price of new hard drives aren't that much to begin with. I bought a launch 60gb and I don't get mad at new revisions.

If it bothers anynoe that much you can buy a 250 2.5" for around 50$

I guess Sony thought that the majority of buyers would be happy with the 120gb and pushed it out for Oct1st.
Newer models came of the production line when they where ready?

Not everyone will need 250. So they caterd for the majority 1st?

Umm, I think the Wii is the only system this Gen that doesn't do exactly this. Besides, with a PS3 you can go buy any size notebook HDD and slap it in there - does that make 360 gamers "upset" that they have to pay MS premiums for undersized HDD's? I know my 20GB launch 360 with 13.7GB useable internal space couldn't hold more than a couple of demo's, lucky for me it RROD'ed and now I have an RE ed. Elite (but the change in HDD size confused and upset me  )

Seriously, if you should be mad at anyone it should be microsoft for selling 150gb hard drives for over 100 dollars when you can get a 250gb hard drive for the PS3 for only 50 dollars.

Swapping hard drives on the PS3 is almost as easy as loading an NES cartridge. If someone gets in a wad over changing the HDD, they probably need an instruction manual for charging their controllers, too.

This. Microsoft does the exact same thing, its perhaps even more confusing since they changed the name of some of their models, not to mention the new chips, Jasper or w/e its called and I think there was another one.

This isn't a Sony problem, this is a Console problem. All three system's have different Memory problems that are Not ideal. While I coudl go into all of it in one of my monsterous posts, just know that I do agree, it sucks.

Unfortunately, memory is a tricky issue, LUCKILY you don't have to play horrible prices for Sony and Nintendo's solutions.

----------

Also, what about launch 20gig 360's for $400? That's on your hit list, right?

Finally, I have two launch 60gig PS3's, and I wouldn't trade them EVER. I think Early Adopters got it good, as I think the Launch PS3's were the best PS3's.

I easily upgrade one of them to a 500gig though ($70 almost two years ago).

I do find it a little annoying. I bought a 60GB model for 350GBP, but today I could buy a 250GB model for 70GBP less. If mandatory installations didn't exist I wouldn't really mind.

Nope, in fact I would be glad when I found out that I'm not restricted to buy X Company's overpriced HD.

No. I've never heard of anybody being upset about this. First of all, the upcoming 250 gig is going to cost more money. Second, the price of HDDs drops so fast that if you CARE about having a bigger HDD, it is quick, easy and cheap to just buy your own and install it yourself. That's what I did. I bought the newer, non-BC 40 gig. It filled up quicker than I'd like so I bought a 250 gig and installed it myself.

good_sk8er7

I think this is a ridiculous complaint. Sony has only ever had TWO versions of their console available at any given time. ANd I see ZERO indication that customers consider bigger HDDs a new "SKU". The features and capabilities are the same for ALL the consoles, with the exception of the launch models which had BC. But I think it is stupid to consider each new HDD upgrade a new "sku". Unless the features or abilities change, it is the exact same model with more HDD space.

I just thought of this, but I was upset when I just bought the Xbox 360 then a month later the Elite came out with HDMI output. Now that is something to get upset about. Sony hasn't upset me this gen yet.

I have a launch 60gb PS3. Larger HDDs included for less money into the current PS3s doesn't bother me a bit. I've still not run out of space on my HDD and thats with about 700 MP3s, hundreds of 8 megapixel family photos, a few demos, well over a dozen PSN titles, HOME, The new Folding@Home app, several hundred Rockband songs, all my saves since launch and any needed installs for games I've played in the last 12 months. AND I have 10-12 gb (can't remember exact amount) locked away in a PS2 HDD partition I haven't used in 2 years, but am too lazy to reformat to remove it :P

And besides, the great thing about the PS3's HDD setup is if I want more, I can get on Newegg.com and get whatever size HDD suits my needs, and for far less than the competition would charge me for a new drive.

no.

and besides:
1. people can easily upgrade the hdd with any driveon the market. you cannot do that with the 360. repeat: you cannot do that with the 360, but you have to purchase expensive ones.
2. micrsoft also has plenty of sku's and will also be releasing a 250gb version, just like the ps3.

Of course not. Anyone that has ever been an early console adopter knows that over time, console prices wll go down and new features or pack ins will be included. Always been that way.

Besides, for $55 I could get myself a 250 gb hdd and slap it in if it met that much to me. Then, I have 120 gb backup drive and a couple extra months of enjoying my console instead of waiting endlessly for a better deal... all for 5 dollars.

If there is some perspective of getting confused the current multi-optioned SKUs then it would be one where the consumer himself doesn't want to bother being a smart consumer and consider all options before laying down the money, and would rather have the corporations give them one single expensive piece of item without any other choices to buy except for that. And if sony is upsetting anyone, then those people for sure wouldn't want to get a 360 either due to the WAYYY overpriced HDDs.

Not intending to offend TC, but that would just be the case.

No. And I know this is a response to the "Is MS upsetting its customers with expensive add-ons." The expensive add-ons are much worse.

And I doubt it costs Sony $50 to double the hard drive space... they're probably making more money off of the $349 PS3 than they are the $299. But for the consumers, both options look like a good deal. It was a win-win scenario.

To all those waiting on the 250 gb PS3. You do realize that $100 bucks can buy you a $250 gb 2.5 sata HDD, plus you can keep the 120 hdd for whatever.

now my point is, when the 120 ps3 slim came out, people bought it quickly, then just a few weeks later, a 250gb version was rumored and now is true.

nah, doesnt bother me much because i have an 80 gig bc and i bought it when it was the bundle. i payed 499 for my bundle but that was 2 years ago, ive had 2 years worth of PS3 gaming to enjoy VS the people that jumped on the bandwagon just this year. i guess if i bought a 120 gig for the 299 and then saw another for 50 bucks more with double the HDD space a few months later, i mught be a little teed but thats the price you pay for being "the first to buy" theyll always come out with something "better" and people have to understand that. i feel that even though i only have an 80 gig i came out on top with the 60 gig users cause we both got BC whereas noone else does....

for that same 50 bucks you could go to your local comp store and (well in my case at least) buy a 200-500 gig HDD. i havent complained yet....

No more than MS is upsetting their customers with different HDD options.

MS didnt have NEARLY as many variations as Sony did with the PS3, come on now....

360 storage configurations:

20, 60, 120 or 250 GB hard drive, 64, 256 or 512 MB memory cards, 256 or 512 MB on-board (later models)

Not to mention the Core and Pro models without then with HDMI.

20(?), 60, 40, 80, 80, 120, 250 and no i dont think were counting the memory cards as different CONSOLE models, theyre just memory cards and really dont count in this debate.

ok so it seems as sony only has it by two i guess. including MS's arcade model, i was mistaken. not a big difference at all...

ok one problem ive always seen with sony is that thye issue a lot of ps3 versions and hard drive options that cnfuses customers

(i was confused bwteen the mgs4 80gb and the core 80gb, seing as how they are very different)

now my point is, when the 120 ps3 slim came out, people bought it quickly, then just a few weeks later, a 250gb version was rumored and now is true.

if you were one of the early adopters of the 120gb slim, would you be upset if you found out a new one with more than double your hard drive would only cost 50 bucks more? assume you dont know about changing hd's.

i dont have a ps3 yet, but to me, i would be very angry. i see that as screwing with early adopters, your thoughts on this?

I don't see why people would be. Go buy a $100 250HDD and sell the 120 for $50. You break even AND you get a PS3 slim early.

No, considering any PS3 hard drive is upgradable for pretty cheap you can't be mad. If it were the PSPGo though, dropping in price like a month after release, I'd be t'd.

No. And I know this is a response to the "Is MS upsetting its customers with expensive add-ons." The expensive add-ons are much worse.

jakehouston88
