Stalker is one the most atmospheric fictional based fps’s I have ever played. You need to progress gear wise to get closer to a failed Nuclear core to get better artifacts and solve the great mystery of the game.

Voice acting is top notch, AI makes you think twice about your tactics!

Graphics, especially modded are beautiful.

Just like the witcher games, life imitates art, and the russians made a show after the game about a fictional post apocalyptic world called Chernobyl. I would love to watch it but I don’t speak Russian and hate sub titles.

All the weapons have a good weight, ammo is scarce forcing you to use your enviroment to your advantage.

What are your thoughts?

14-4. Damn you. I was so 100% certain this was a Ghost thread I rolled my eyes three times before opening it.

Played it for a bit. Nice atmosphere. Especially liked the campfire songs. Wasn't grabbed. The RPG-lite stuff didn't do it for me. Either go full hog or cut the fat.

@madrocketeer: Rpg isn’t always about mechanics, it’s about making you roleplay and feel like your someone else.

STALKER 1 will not going to surpassed. STALKER 2 will be lucky if it will be 50% as good despite my most hype game of all time.

@sheevpalpamemes:

True. I just didn't like the stop-start pacing it created without sufficient reward to make it worthwhile. It kind of breaks immersion a bit. Either cut the fat and let me get on with it like BioShock, or go full hog and incorporate the narrative into it like System Shock 2. I felt STALKER's in-betweeny approach gave it the worst parts of both worlds.

@madrocketeer: incorrect. Bioshock was scripted and written for people who probably sons of anarchy and scooby doo.

Stalker used negative space to build tension.

Although it is OK to like both games. Different games for different needs. If every game was like STALKER i'm sure we'd have people complaining that we have to many STALKER type games.

Stalker? Lol yeah that game was beyond broken at launch and required a full modding community to halfway decent... so no it isn’t the biggest anything!

not really. STALKER was praised as PC masterpiece and still is. It was innovative and most immersive game of all time.

From wiki

'Upon release, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was criticized for having numerous bugs, especially when used with the then-recently released Windows Vista. IGN found the game "tended to stutter quite often, sometimes pausing for three or four seconds at regular intervals, which occurred on two different Windows XP computers at maximum visual quality," and some cases of game crashing glitches.[31] Another criticized aspect was the story, which to some reviewers was "incoherent"[28] and which PC Gamer stated "fails in the specific story of your character".[32]'

Hmm, dunk on Ghosts, or cosign on a decent game.

Wasn't my point at all. Many different ways to create atmosphere and tell stories. I just thought STALKER's pacing undermined their merits.

Cyberpunk is praised by Hardcore gamers at the moment, doesn't mean it not buggy and broken. Talking out your arse.

But corrupt mainstream media site Gamespot gave a higher score to Stalker (8.5) than to Cyberpunk (7). OMG!!!

At the time the casual mainstream gaming media were fapping to dumbed down System Shock 2 with Quark. All the while real, real gamers were fapping to Stalker.

true. 7th gen will forever remain dark ages of gaming. Peak of COD, most games get dumbed down, most games sacrifies SP for MP etc.

STALKER among them was savior of gaming.

I too love S.T.A.L.K.E.R and hope the 2nd will be good.

I've also enjoyed Roadside Picnic, the book that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was influenced by. There is also a movie called Stalker and that's good too. Very atmospheric.

I still remember the leaked alpha before they renamed the game from Oblivion Lost to Shadows of Chernobyl and reading about it in a PC magazine. The devs promised a lot more for the game than what they managed to deliver but the game is easily on of my favourite shooters of all time with the likes of HL, SS2 and Doom 1+2.

Yeah, the Stalker series is great, especial the first, and the modding community is amazing. If you've never played it and you like atmospheric and challenging FPS you should give it a try, you can get the games dirt cheap.

With full mods and shit, it's pretty decent. Worth writing home about? Not really.

Expecting this thread is a dunk on Ghost given the OP.

@ghosts4ever: It would play best on ps5 based on their hard drive tech.

Think of the adaptive triggers to help with immersion. You pull a yacks nipple you feel it.

Pull a ln enemies nipple, same thing.

Its first person so there's a 💯% chance its gonna suck regardless.

How is it a sleeper ? I see it talked about all the time.

Maybe the super casual consoletards never heard of it or something, idk. But I'd go with Hidden & Dangerous series for the one that's most slept on.

Best WW2 shooter out there.
