Is Sunset Overdrive the best Insomniac game?

I say yes. Sure Spyro was cool. Second resistance was ok. Obviously Spiderman is good. But for such a short development and fairly close to a launch window for Xbox One, I have to say Sunset Overdrive is a fantastic game.

Shame it never got a One X enhancement because it was quite a good looking game and with HDR and improved resolution and textures that game could be a masterpiece. Definitely one of the most colorful and fun games of the generation and an exciting twist on shooters.

You would think with Microsoft owning the IP and all the studios they have acquired, a potential sequel could come.

I usually like Sandbox games but I just couldn't get into Sunset Overdrive the first time while playing as a male but trying it again when it hit on PC and this time, I played as a female made the game fun due to the humor coming from a female.

But anyway, it was a criminally overlooked game. It got fine reviews, but was never really popular at the time of release due to MS was still dealing with bad press when Xbox One was still new coming from a bad launch it had and Sunset Overdrive didn't sell well, from what I remember on the Xbox One as it was still exclusive. Later word of mouth and the Steam release has elevated it to something more of a cult classic status though, so it's nice that it did get wider recognition eventually on PC but I'm pretty sure Insomniac regretted making it an Xbox One exclusive at the time when it should've been on PC long ago.

Spiderman is arguably the best to date but their last R&C game was amazing. Sunset was okay but it was in development for a while before release.

I don't like Spider-Man or "superheroes" in general, and R & C seems like a kids game, have they made anything else? because if that's it then SO is easily the best game they've done.

It was like a GOTY game back then when it came out, because it was the only XB1 exclusive. Also remember RotTR and DR3 we're great and then they wen't multiplat and lems didn't talk about it anymore

Its up there for sure, my personal favorite are the R&C games, Spiderman was good too, but i actually liked SO more than Spiderman. Spiderman nailed the web slinging but was repetitive, also the lab puzzles were boring, worst part of the game was MJ and Miles segments, were just flat out bad, they did them dirty, they could have made those parts at least a little bit of fun, instead it was a crouch walk simulator. SO was pretty solid "arcadey" fun, its up there with R&C for me

@BenjaminBanklin: MS does in fact own rights to SO. Sony does own the IP, but MS owns all publishing rights to the IP.

It’s the best insomniac game on Xbox One.

Like I say, MS does have the publishing rights to the first game... but Sony could make another sequel at any time. It's just they're not because it was a failure. It was a fun game, but Team Xbox didn't buy it and ruined it for everyone.

probably the most fun I've had on my xbox one but can't say it's insomniacs best game as I still have to play through spiderman before making any judgement.

Average games from an average developer. Not sure and don't really care what would be considered best when everything is so average.

I'm surprised insomniac didn't release a straight port for the PS4 seems an easy port that would sell quite well on the system.

Of course, Insomniac Games was recently outright purchased by Sony, which begs the question – what becomes of Sunset Overdrive? Could Sony and Insomniac revive the series on PlayStation consoles, or does Microsoft own a stake in the series? Japanese publication Inside Games asked Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Shuhei Yoshida about the status of Sunset Overdrive, and he confirmed Sony now owns the property, although don’t count on a new game anytime too soon (apologies for the somewhat-rough Google translation).

I this I that I I I = so easily the best game they ever done. opinions are nice but to say you don't like spiderman because your not super hero fan and not play the game to see how it feels and plays.

im not into fps like halo but i can see its a quality game.

mario i think is a boring character but i can still see there is a quality game there again.

calling ratchet and clank a kids game and not sun set overdrive? that has almost the same art style as ratchet and clank. you can tell they were done on the same engine.

besides aren't you forgetting they did infamous series as well on top of resistance series.

No although I did really enjoy the game. I haven’t played Spider-Man yet however from all that I’ve seen on the game along with him being my favourite superhero and comic book universe chances are very high that it’ll be my favourite. So far my favourite Insomniac game is Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time.

Not only I played it, but I also acquired it when it was a free download for GoG (if I'm correct with the abbreviation). It was a very unique game, but a farcry from being Insomiac's best. Spiderman, R&C, and even the Resistance series are better, some by far.

It was a really fun game but I think it's on par with spiderman. Something just meh about their games.

It was fun but it got old fast and the initial campaign felt too short. It did have good humor to it though. The game never took itself too seriously and capitalized on its wackiness. But there wasn't much else to do besides follow the story. So it was kinda shallow for a sandbox game. Spiderman ps4 has it beat on all merits.

Oh and giffy when SM was released people were saying it copied some things from AC, and R & C are furry animals, so a kids game, and i didn't say they weren't quality just that SO was they're best game, don't get so triggered all the time.

Yes, Chaos Squad 8-player co-op is Effin insane. Think it got cut from PC release. Highly Suggest picking it up on the cheap for Xbox and playing it. It's open world but then chunked down to specific missions and then ends with fort defense. You can vote for buffs in difficulty to increase your rewards at the end but it can get downright insane. Campaign was cool but Chaos Squad was my favorite co-op mode this gen.

Better than the Resistance games at least.
