I've been a fan of COD since the beginning, but I haven't really played much COD 4 lately until today. I Dusted off my PC version of the game and noticed when I went to play online it was a bit lonely. Is the community still there for the PC version or has everyone moved over to the XBL version? Is the XBL version a better experience than the PC? I'm a PC fan and still believe that FPS should be played on the PC first and on the console second.

Could I have just logged on at the wrong time, because I usually just play deathmatch, and it was a bit lonely in there.

Obviously a joke reply but I am a bit curious, what is the PSN community like for COD4?

No "PSN sucks!!!!" type comments please. I am just honestly curious if it is hard to find a game or not. I have not got around to playing COD4 online via PSN.

PC probably has a "better" community, although it may not have as many people on it at all times. There's too many games that divide people's time on the PC.

For the 360 a lot of players have apparently moved onto CoD5 and Gears of War 2. There's still a loyal CoD4 fanbase though so you should be able to find games rather easily. It's still one of the most played games on XBL.

Wait..why would someone buy COD4 for the PC then decide "maybe I should buy it for the 360". makes no sense. i think the communities are about the same size.

PC's community is indeed stronger but the game's multiplayer is garbage anyway IMO.thefsmlol
While I agree with this (:P), the reason it's stronger is because of admins, mods, and support. There's enough servers with different game styles to keep you entertained, as well as custom maps.

I would say the XBL community, simply for the fact that the majority of Live players have microphones versus the minority on PC games (and there are some who use them solely via teamspeak or ventrilo; these are not people you will be interacting with unless you are in their clan.

I disagree with you. The rare time I played that game, the microphone was only used to wage a non-stop insult wars. Anyway, this game don't really beneficit from microphone, I mean the map are small and the tactic is, well... killing the other guys without much strategy since it's so chaotic.

Game-Monitor is showing several thousand players right now, so you probably logged in at a bad time or didn't receive all the servers when you queried for them.

Well considering the game sold better on the 360 I would guess it has the stronger community. For some reason people on here think that just because they like something better most people feel the same way...

Depends what your definition of better is... I cant complain, the Australian servers are all heavily populated; but you must realise, as far as shooters go, on the PC the player base is divided more... as there are simply far more titles.... to the degree where comparing can get unbalanced.

I think the numbers are strong on the PC. I know now that WaW has come out a lot of people have switched to that on both the 360 and the PC. There are just so many current shooters out there that are really great and just not enough people out there to keep them populated.

The PC Call of Duty community is huge, and is one of the dominate competitive communities along side MoH and CS. It is definitely larger on the PC.

Not only that but I haven't seen any recording data of the sales of the PC version that have included Digital Distribution of Steam or Direct2Drive. NPD doesn't count either of them.

Sadly the Community on the PC version is divided between the patchs. So each Patch has a certain amount of people playing. Currently I think the majority are sill playing 1.0 version because some don't update their game.

Doesn't matter. The PC community will endure the longest while the PS3 and 360 communities all move en masse to the next big thing. It's already happening with COD5 and Gears 2, and it will probably lose a huge chunk of its playerbase when Modern Warfare 2 releases. Meanwhile, even Call of DUTY 1 ON the PC has hundreds of people playing right now, 5 years after the game was released...

Which is why they need a patch distribution system. Something like Steam or at least something like Ubisoft's auto-patcher that does a check every time you launch the game.
