Is The Evil Within worth $20?

Anyone here played The Evil Within? It's only $20 on Steam this weekend so I'm debating getting it. I like horror games a lot but have heard mixed things about this game. What does it compare to and is it worth getting, even at a heavily discounted price? Should I just wait for Dying Light for my horror fix?

It's horror game mixed with fantasy elements. Sort of a weird japanese david lynch resident evil 4, but I enjoyed it.

I thought it was great. It's likely the closest a AAA release will ever get to the classic survival horror formula for the foreseeable future.

nope. wait a few more months. its only been out for like 3 months and more than half off. its only going to get cheaper and very soon.

It attempts a bit of Outlast and Resident Evil 4, but both of those games do it much better.

I got it for $15. Worth it.

Without co-op.... not really...

But if you liked President Evil 4 then go for it.

I say buy it and I'm not ever a horror survivor gamer but the game is worth it at 20 dollars.

No, Lulu, Not every game needs Co-Op. It would have ruined the freakin' game.

Games don't operate by needs or necessities..... No Game needs anything...... but more importantly the only thing that would by ruined would be your perception of the game...

In other words.... the game would still be fine... you just won't be fine with it.

It's pretty good. $20 is worth it unless you're broke as ****.

@Lulu_Lulu: The truth you're talking about which it can be applied to every and any game MAY be true to an extent.

BUT For The Evil Within however, how it is structured and everything, it simply must be a single player experience. Having another playing Dinking around in that game for no reason to me would completely ruin the game.

This isn't freakin' Gears of War or Resident Evil 5. Which are excellent Co-Op action games. The Evil Within along with it's sneaking sections and "Hospital" visits and Hiding Mechanics, Co-Op would just ruin the whole experience.

Not saying Multiplayer Survival Horror CAN'T work. A Game like ZombiU would have greatly benefited in Multiplayer and that's been well proven with the Arma 2 mod DayZ.

For This Particular game, The Evil Within. It would have dulled the experience it would have made it worse.

Thats because you are thinking about a lazily implementation of Co-Op whereby they simply add another player indifferent from your own... with that mindset I'm npt surprised you would think it would be ruined.

No reworkings, No changes, As it is NOW, Co-Op added instant success. Correct?

Get out. Survival horror and co-op do not belong together.

Its a good game I paid full price and I don't regret it at all.

Just like with RPGs.. Survival Horror is not about the Gameplay... its all about The Atmosphere and "teh immersion".

I'm yet to beat it....think it'll be a 8.5/10 or even 9/10 game for me...

YES. Really good game.

I'm about halfway through...So far I think its a solid 8-8.5. My only gripe is that sometimes the AI is wonky. I'm trying an all-stealth approach. Occasionally, the enemy won't see you at all, and sometimes they can detect you from a ridiculous distance.

Man i love the atmosphere , it's like one of the most intense atmospheres i've ever been in. Story seems to be good too but i'm not getting my hopes up on that.

Best game I played last year. I got it for $60 and it was worth every penny imo.
