Do you guys think the PS2 is the greatest gaming experience you've ever had? Is there a system out there which you had more fun with? Is the PS2 the best console ever made for gamers?

Why do people like it? The games of course!

Critically acclaimed games on the PS2 include the Grand Theft Auto series, several entries in the Final Fantasy series, Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3, the Devil May Cry series, four SSXs , the Ace Combat series, Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II, Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec and Gran Turismo 4, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs, the Sly Cooper trilogy, Ape Escape, the Splinter Cell series, the Jak and Daxter series, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, the God of War series, Champions of Norrath, Champions: Return to Arms, five Dragon Ball Z: Budokai games, six Tony Hawk games, the WWE SmackDown! series, the Timesplitters series and the Rachet and Clank series.

The PS2 has also been the home to many music games, such as the latest Dance Dance Revolution games and the guitar controller-based Guitar Hero series, as well as the hit Singstar series.

How have consumers reacted to the PS2?

It is the most dominant and commercially successful, fastest selling home console in video game history, with over 120 million units shipped worldwide by May 2007.

So, is the PS2 the greatest console ever made? What do you guys think?

Probably. It just has a tremendously fantastic library of games. I don't see how anything else tops it at this time, though the PS3 and 360 will eventually be seen as superior as their libraries grow. The technological advancements are just too vast between this generation and last.

I was thinking of putting the SNES out there. I enjoyed the SNES overall during the time I played it probably just as much as I have the PS2. The reason I didn't bring the SNES up is because if I had to pick between the two of them right now to play, it wouldn't even be close. I wouldn't even have to think about it. So in that view the PS2 is the superior console.

I've had more fun with the SNES and DC. Even the PSX. Soon to be Xbox 360.

yes it really is its the best. and its still going withs tons of rpgs coming. No console will live up to its sales, the amount of quality games (exclusive or overall) for a long time.

I think the PS2 had closer to maybe 80 million customers, because a lot of people have had more than one. And personally no, the PS2 was too similar to the PS1 to really establish itself as a standout console, to me.

I always thought it would be funny if Nintendo randomly released a newSNES game one day without announcing it. You wake up one day and you see a commercial for a new SNES game. I would be both confused and excited.

The amount of fun I had with my PSX far out weighs that of the PS2. But the SNES would get my vote for best console evah, with the N64 getting an honorable mention...

Yes, the PS2 to me was what got me into games like Jak, Rachet and Clank, God of War, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, and all that good stuff. It has the most variety of games and was a great system.

Yes - It is the greatest system of all time, but it has not been the system I have had the most fun with. That will always lie with my beloved SNES.

I think why the SNES lies dearest in my heart is the large amount of platformers, a genre practicly dead these days, The market has become so saturated with FPS, which are great, but im a platformer gamer through and through.

I almost got a ps2, but realized that none of the games ever interested me. The ps1 had a few, but the ps2 was just a cluster of mediocre sports games and rpgs. As it stands, the wii has nothing. Granted that will change in the coming months, but it still has a steep ration of good games to bad games. Yes, I'm serious.

im sorry but that title goes to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) because it single handedly saved gaming as we know it after the 1983 crash

IMHO it is but by only a little ahead compared to the SNES. It's probably because I did not have many games to play on the SNES.

Yes they did. None appealed to me. Their highest rated game was a tony hawk game (according gamespot)...I'm fully aware of their aaa titles btw. None of them held much interest with me. And this is an opinion thread so...

Yeah I think it is and the sales speak for its self. I mean even in almost its eight year in the market, u still see ppl buying the system and it has brang so many great games to the market. The system has sold the most for any console to date and still selling like hot cakes and I think it will be around for a few more years until the next playstation 4 has hit the market. The ps2 is still doing very well in selling hardware and software so I dont see the ps2 leaving anytime soon.

As great as Playstation 2 was, if you denied yourself the experience of the Super Nintendo, you were truely missing out. Those who missed out on that great system, might say yes, but I won't. No, Super Nintendo. That was the best system ever.

It loses points in the reliability category for me...I owned 3 of them.
