Think about it.

It has Bluray, wifi, replacable hard drive, internet web browser and most importantly a range of quality games that satisfy the PURE hardcore gamer.

All it lacks is Word and Excel, but how need them unless your at work or school.

Whats do you think about this subject?

I disagree. Whilst it has incorporated aspects from the PC, it's far from being one.

It is a PC that you can only upgrade the harddriive. You can't get a new videocard, CPU, or add more ram. Yup it is really the new PC.

because the PS3 has already annhialated the 360 this gen so PS3 vs 360 is no more. Now SW is about PS3 vs PC, and the wii can take on 360 from this point on.

I think that a PC is miles ahead of a PS3 or 360. Easily. Until you can change the guts out in a console, PCs have the advantage.

Why it doesn't have any snowboard or strategy games then? (Except maybe for Red Alert 3 as far as RTS are concerned)...It also lacks in racing games as well...

No, no, yes.

Technically correct however the PS3 slims took away the ability to run Linux, so if you have an older PS3 you can if you have a newer one you can't.

Right an in order cpu (giggle), 256 mb ram (loolw00t), can not burn dvd's, blu-ray's, linux support removed, crippled cell + crippled geforce 7800 (thats all rsx is), cool story bro but the pc I was using back in 2005 could easily wipe the floor with both ps3, 360 and wii combined.

So no the ps3 isn't the new pc, like the ps2 with linux support wasn't, like that SGi supercomputer called nintendo 64 wasn't and like the ps4 and whatever follows wont replace that big muscle box capable of running a bazillion of software called pc.

Admittedly I was gonna get the old one, but I thought about it and decided I didn't really need Linux so I went with the slim. :P

Pure "hardcore" gamers?

I know guys who play Madden 10 for seriously 30 hours a week at one point. Are they hardcore or casual? I mean football games are always considered casual cause they are sports games, but the volume these guys play and the level at which they play at is much higher than anybody else. I also know guy who play the 360 version of CoD WaW for 100+ hours in a month, its the only game they play.

I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a "hardcore" gamer by any one definition. It changes for everybody. A "hardcore" gamer doesn't have to meet any real specifications, thus labeling a system for a pure "hardcore" gamer is impossible.

Yet sony removed linux from PS3 and i'm asking again do you actually think ps3 has as many features as a PC or can it be as convinient as a PC? So apart from the tv part and that you can put images and videos from your cam corder can it do everything else like something as simple as write something on word or burn a dvd or create mp3's from your audio cd's to something like simple image and video editing of your photos ( let alone something complex using photoshop or adobe premiere ) to something as complex as write a program in Java or C++?

Yeah, I gotta laugh at how some people look at Madden as a casual game. Sure it could be played that way but it can also be play on a very complex level and the people who play it professionally are pretty hardcore and will decimate most people who think they are good at videogames. I think the term "hardcore" is completely misused by many people here.

To be fair, MS has the same problem. Although It doesn't really bother me as it is a testament on how scaleable the hardware for both systems are. It means a much longer console lifecycle, which is a good thing.

The PSP is a whole other issue. What a mess.

Yes, you could compare PS 3 to a low end PC I suppose, but even then the PS 3 will still loose badly in functionality

[QUOTE="charizard1605"][QUOTE="heretrix"]Actually, they are starting to step up. The new ad campaign is great and the games are starting to reach the potential they promised at the beginning of the gen. I really don't know what else they could do.They are on a good course.

Their software's just fine, of course... but why did it take them sixty hardware SKUs to finally hit the bull's eye? and why are they still clueless about what to do with the PSP???

To be fair, MS has the same problem. Although It doesn't really bother me as it is a testament on how scaleable the hardware for both systems are. It means a much longer console lifecycle, which is a good thing.

The PSP is a whole other issue. What a mess.

I'd actually go out on a limb and say it's true for all three console akers this gen... there's only one non PC gaming system that got it right this gen, and that is the DS. Nintendo nailed it with that one. Maybe the PS3 will eventually end up in a similar position too.

[QUOTE="adamosmaki"]My god man are you actually telling me Ps3 has as many features as PC? Can i burn cd's and dvd's on PS3? Can i hook my mobile on ps3 and save my contacts, images, videos and install app's Can i hook my camera or videocamera and save my images abd videos and edit them? Can i use office on PS3? Can i play pc games on PS3? Can i record tv programs from a tv tuner? Is the internet browser as usable and as fast as firefox? ( considering it only has 256mb of ram alot of flash sites has troubles on PS3 ) Can i edit my photos using Gimp Does it have the range of applications going from customization to utilities to photo editing a pc has? Can i use emulators on PS3? Can i use google earth on PS3? and lots more Yes you are right ps3 is almost there kate_jones

you can put linux on it, as far i know you can put images and videos from you cameras onto it, playTV is a tv tuner and recorder for Ps3, basically blah blah blah yes yes yes

fedora, openSuse, yellowdog and ubuntu work on ps3

Linux support was removed on the slim.

Surely that a fat ps3 with linux can almost behave as a pc, but using an in order cpu, limited to 256mb ram, no gpu access/acceleration, crippled cell... what's exactly the point anyways? Marketing that much?

And now that we're talking about it, lol fbi, US air force using ps3 clusters for cryptography and whatever they want, lol amateurs that much? Never heard of cuda? open cl? Or even cost efficiency.

Think about it.

It has Bluray, wifi, replacable hard drive, internet web browser and most importantly a range of quality games that satisfy the PURE hardcore gamer.

All it lacks is Word and Excel, but how need them unless your at work or school.

Whats do you think about this subject?

can you run adobe creative suite, avid media composer, final cut, logic, cubase, maya, or dreamweaver on a PS3?
