I mean, like what CAN'T you do is the better question.Think about it.
It has Bluray, wifi, replacable hard drive, internet web browser and most importantly a range of quality games that satisfy the PURE hardcore gamer.
All it lacks is Word and Excel, but how need them unless your at work or school.

And by this...
PC, it only does everything.
As for the ps3, it only does grill 8)
And even Ken aproves,
"I'm so proud of it; I put my name on it!"

Why are PS3 fanboys trying to pass off the ps3 as a "pure hardcore" system now? A very strong majority of it's games are inferior multiplats to the 360 counterparts. It does have exclusives going for it, but so does the 360...so I don't understand the one sided arguments.
Oh wait...this is SW.

The point wasn't what software he was showing, just the fact that the PC can run that software and the PS3 can't even hope to.
Therefore how is the PS3 becoming the "NEW PC"?

no, i own final cut and logic, though. but i work in video production, and yes, my company has all of those. but you still didn't answer my question: can a PS3 run all of those programs. even if it was possible, Final Cut alone would choke the PS3.can you run adobe creative suite, avid media composer, final cut, logic, cubase, maya, or dreamweaver on a PS3?clone01

They kinda make me not want to get a ps3 anymore.

I agree 100%. I haven't played my ps3 much since last week...probably because i hear those three promoting the ps3 in a fanboy way.
All the consoles are shifting more and more towards a computer with set hardware, so that drivers and optimization are not issues. However, they are still not PC's because they lack what makes PC's so unique from all other platforms: the fact that the PC is a customizable open platform.
[QUOTE="kate_jones"][QUOTE="adamosmaki"] But why would you want to use Linux on PS3 when you have a PC for that
Why would anyone want to use PS3 as a gimped PC for Linux instead of a console??? I don't understand some peoples' (spelled "peoples" on purpose) impetuosity...I just don't...Salt_The_Fries
I certainly wouldnt, I have a mac and pc for that, some people do use linux on them though, I imagine plenty more would have if the slim had kept that feature. even if it isn't ideal it has to be accepted that it's a possibility.
@adamosmaki
Yes sony removed it, you might want to think about why they did that. No I dont think a ps3 has as many features as a PC or as convinient, it merely can do the things you listed, the xmb does rip audio cd's, burning a dvd/cd would require linux and an external burner, yes with linux you can code your heart out in vim, nano, pico etc
But nevertheless your point is is sony's XMB a a more feature rich operating system than windows/linux/osx. No it isnt

Fitted with AMD ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB VRAM GDDR3, Blu-Ray, built-in 1080p LCD and 'etc'.
It has Sony's Full HD 1080 logo on it.

[QUOTE="whoDat_whoDat"]alot of ppl have upgraded from PC's to PS3's.DragonfireXZ95This is almost as bad as PC can't do HD. sig worthy?
You can shop online with your PS3 too, just like the PC would.Dogswithguns
I can shop online using my mobile-phone.
I'm still waiting for the4D-graphics that I was promised. That must be a feature not possible on the PC. The fourth dimension can only be unlocked by teh CELL.
Maybe it is. It would fit into my prediction that consoles will become PCs in 2 gens. Basically like you said consoles have more options than ever. Features that have usually been associated with PCs till now. With this sort of evolution of the console it is inevitable that more features are added and as time passes and the now casuals start to demand more. The console companys will make their machines moddable to personal preferance.

If the consoles becomes PCs they are no longer consoles but PCs. What you are trying to implement is that consoles will cease to exist.
The pc has a backcatolouge to 1990, even further if you want to be technical.........................so pc has literaly thousands more games then the PS3.No. PC can do everything PS3 can do, but better, and is a more powerful machine with more games.

That is indeed what I am suggesting. You see as our world becomes more technologically advanced people will be less uneasy about stuff like the PC which trully is more complicated to put together and service than a console. Peoples craving for choice and freedom will overcome their preconcived notions about PCs.
imo PS3 > PC when going head to head.whoDat_whoDatI know that's your opinion, but you need to know that your opinion is wrong in so many many levels and that's fact.
Michael Jackson must have found a way to unlock the fourth dimension using teh cell. I think he is there now together with Bruce Lee and Elvis Presley.
Oh always nice to get a good Morning laugh ^^
the PS3 is as far from a PC as an Iphone is, really they are more alike then the PS3 is to the pc... psudo upgradable, old, it is pretty much a console, not much else, I have yet to see anyone use the broken webbrowser on the PS3, and lets be honest... It struggles...
*shakes head* either there is a generation that really never seen a PC before or some Fanboys are just becomming borderline-psychotic
The best answer is that the PS3 is a stripped down system devoted to specific tasks. At its core, the PS3 is desgined to play games and lets its user watch movies. The PS3, while capable of running Linux is not bought with the intention of running office suites, building webpages, or other tasks that PCs or Macs do much better and easier.
For the sake of argument, you must consider that PCs are naturally capable of things that are difficult for the PS3 to do naturally. This is looking beyond the idea of just gaming PCs, and considering the general tasks that PCs perform on a daily basis.
Depending on the PC, you can easily have a platform that can control servers, play games, watch movies, surf the net, build webpages, run office suites, and allow a person to control their fiances.
With the PC or even Mac, a user can run several different OSes to ensure they can run the programs that they want. The PS3 is limited to Linux and the native OS of the PS3.
Since it lacks the ability to run Windows, it loses out on programs that are developed for Windows, thereby losing its flexibility as a PC replacement.
Of course, the ability to use Linux is lost with the PS3 slim, so any ties to being a PC-like system are now lost.
This argument fails because you can't judge the PC simply as another gaming platform. Gaming is simply another task that a PC can perform in addition to its other uses. The PS3, despite its features is still a game system.
PCs are bought for many different tasks, while the PS3 is bought with the purpose of playing video games and watching movies.
Because of this, the PS3 can never be considered a "NEW" PC.
