With close to a billion in loss for the PS3 this year

And now the ever so seemly major development issues for PS3 by developers.

And as of last week it was rumored that Sony was BEGGING developers to do not jump ship on the PS3.

One thing is for sure no one ever thought Sony would be in the position they are in now.

LAST PLACE and loosing money BIGTIME in there game division.

Giving up PS3 also means less blue ray users, and Sony doesn't want that. Blue ray is way more important than the PS3, and its fate is tied to the PS3. It may turn out a 3rd place this gen, and they might make a loss out of it (just like xbox last gen) but that doesn't mean the overall effect of the PS3 isn't positive.

I don't want Sony to drop out, and neither should you. They moved the industry forward, and their last 2 generation consoles were impressive.

What I do want, to some extent, is for the PS3 to fail as a gaming console, or at least, to suffer. I don't want other companies releasing $600 consoles with features that don't belong on consoles, like Sony. With the way things are going for the PS3, I think I can rest easily about this.

Also, even if the PS3 fails miserably, Sony won't drop out. They'll at least give it a try in the next generation. Hopefully with a cheaper and more to-the-point console, one that I will actually buy.

Yeah but the real big problem Sony has is the PS3 is underperforming performance wise and developers are very close to scrapping PS3 development. So they can make there $$$ on 360 with a big install base.

I mean Sony is beeging them not to at this point. This is badvery BADfor Sony right now.

Thing is, $4 billion is the veritable drop in the bucket for Microsoft. Sony's gaming division is preventing the company of seeing profits 200% or *more* than they are right now. (Probably closer more to 250-300% more profit)

Its teh 3 year curse!

NES, SNES both had great libraries. The N64 was the opposite, basically having to live off first party titles.

Seems like Sony is going to have to live off firsty party and second party titles aswell. I doubt any third party developers are going to try to figure out the "power of the cell" when the Xbox 360 is easier to dev for. I love Sony..but im not a blind fanboy.

They won't, period. If they canned it their game business would be permenantly dead and they'd lose the HD format war. If they just tough it out right now PS3 will do well long term.

They knew from the beginning they were gonna lose money on the hardware. There were news articles back in 2005 about this. Apparently they were gonna break even in the third year of the console, and profit in the fourth. If the console had sold like they hoped, the losses would have been much bigger

Just an FYI, Sony's gaming division has now lost around 2.8 billion dollars in the span of 15 months now. That's 2.8 billion dollars that's eating into Sony's bottom line.

PS3 isn't going anywhere soon. They are incurring huge losses in the gaming division because of it; but, the electronics and movie dvisions need it for the Blu-Ray/HD DVD format war. In essence the gaming division is "taking one for the team". Up until the PS3, the gaming division was the division that could best absorb the hit. Who knows, they might move it over to electronics where it's numbers can be hidden better.

asking third party developers to be patient with the ps3 is not the same as begging them to develope for it. third party developers should show sony some loyalty. alot ofgame developers are only here today because of sonys drive to push the games industry forward.

Everyone on here posting that Sony is in trouble is nuts. If you know anything about business you would know that companies have to invest money to make future gains...it's how the whole securities exchange works! Let's see when this report came out and compare that to Sony's stock price...hmm it went up as of right now 6%! Maybe the reason this happened is because people have confidence in Sony. Who would have thought that people buy low in hopes of future gains...learn something kids... http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=sne

I admit, the PS3 is kinda lame right now. But pull the plug? Dont be rediculous. Sony is an epic corporation. They'll put up with the losses, try to get as many PS3s out there as possible, fix things up as best they can and try again with PS4. Simple.

Exactly...that's the reason for all the angry posts that came right before yours.

I keep advising PS3 owners to sell their consoles now while they still have some value...but all I get is a bunch of replies accusing me of being a fanboy. Sigh.

Seriously, this gen belongs to Microsoft and Nintendo. People that are not emotionally attached to their console can clearly see this.

So....you saying you didn't buy the one you have, since you gave the impression that you have a PS3.
