Yes, it's a rather awesome console. I hate how sony is trying to make it a computer entertainment/media system. Who ever did the PS2 marketing needs to come back big time.

For the time being. Its near Christmas, so its logical for them to change their ads to appeal to a broader audience for now.

"it's only obvious that most of the PS3s that have been sold was because of it being a good BluRay player" Since the PS3 has sold 18 million, you're saying that at least 9.01 million were bought because it plays Blu-Rays. I'm sure you have proof of this, so let's see it.

playstation is already synonymous with gaming at this point.... and when you see where the ps3's are at in the store I am sure evena wal-mart shopper can see an entire glass case filled with ps3 games in them. If stores are promoting other things , they obviously would like to sell other product as well. Educating the consumer about things they might not realise is fundamental.

Ken Kutaragi always envisioned the Playstation to be a Home Entertainment Console. Not just used soley for video games. But video games are what have kept the Playstation brand alive and dominating. Kaz Hirai has re-figured the PS3 image to be moslty a video game console since Kutaragi left. If the PS3 isn't a video game console then it does one hell of a job acting like one with 2 AAAE and 1 AAAAE :P just this year.TREAL_Since

Seriously, ignoring my year old link, the PS3 is awesome. I could go without ALL the multimedia functions, but it plays games and has a a handful of gems.

LMAO. I've never seen that pic before. Good laugh. Personally I'm glad the PS3 is a multimedia machine and game console. I wanted a BR player and I wanted a PS3, so it was the best decision for me obviously :).

The PS3 is a full function entertainment hub for the entire family. All these features are built in instead of being sold as add-ons.

That's pretty fair. I would like to pick up my own PS3, as I've been playing off a floormates machine. But $400 is a bit much, especially considering my first year of college has been hella expensive. I doubt I'll be even be able up a 360 arcade anytime soon... :(

WRONG! Just the other night there was a new PS3 commerical SOULY advertising the PS3 as a movie machine. A guy gets one and his girlfriend sees it and says what is that and he says a new movie downloading machine. LOL!

Funny commercial actually.

Well, I think the whole starting focus in this generation is multimedia. It's such a new thing for consoles and the companies love to flaunt their functions. I think later on when everyone has had a enough of the multimedia stuff and a lot more games have come out, they will shift their entire focus back to marketing video games, though, I fell as they already do a lot right now.

its a video game console... and see if you can follow me here. its ALSO a bluray player.

bluray is starting to pick up, and sony is trying to make it well known that their console has it. everyone already knows it can play games, but people who arent into gaming probably dont know that it can play bluray movies. so sony is getting the word out to those people so they might think about buying it and maybe get a few games as well.

It sure is, but gaming isn't what it does best imo. I love it as a media player, but as a console, it leaves much to be desired. Imo, of course. I sure love renting Blu Rays and upscaling DVDs, though. I'll probably never use the rental service though, since I can stream Netflix on the Xbox, which is a much more cost-effective option.

The PS3 has been PSP'd. It has been marketed as a multimedia device that also plays games. It should have been marketed as a gaming machine with multimedia capabilities. Basically, the PS3 is just unnecessary this generation. Last generation the PS2 was a necessity. This generation, the PS3 is just not necessary in the way the 360 and Wii are. Better luck next gen Sony.

What about people like me who simply want to play games with a great online community network? I could care less about multimedia. I have to pay out the ass because THEY want to include this crap?! I don't care to stream pictures, music and movies on my GAME CONSOLE that's what a freaking computer is for. I don't want to browse the web or cure cancer on my gaming console. It's STUPID home intergration like this that bothers me.

I would,as im pretty sure that most people that are intrested in buying the ps3 are more then likely aware that it does play video games. So i see nothing wrong with advertising movies every now and then. And anyway their main focus is not movies anyway.

While at WalMart yesterday, I noticed a few instore ads for the PS3. They all mentioned that the PS3 is the only console to play BluRay movies, and DVDs. Another key feature the ad mentioned was the PS3 was able to download many movies, and TV shows off of PSN.

Not one spot in these ads did I see any mention of video games. Has Sony given up on video games, and decided to market the PS3 as a movie player? I thought the key feature of a video game console was supposed to be GAMES. Am I wrong?

I mean, it's only obvious that most of the PS3s that have been sold was because of it being a good BluRay player; not because of it's games.
