I own a PS3 and have seen lots of negativity surrounding this console... I am one of those happy gamers who got one and I truly enjoy games on it and find them of great quality (well not all at least)...

Regarding sales, I dont have the exact figures but roughly the 3 consoles overall sales are

WII 20+ million

Xbox360 18+ Million

Ps3 10+ million

So with the exception of the Wii, which is something different because it really did exceptionally well, the sales of the PS3 are doing good when compared to the Xbox360 since Xbox360 was launched 12 months earlier..

I do tend to keep in mind also that Xbox360 released its GOW, PG 4, Halo3, Bioshock, Mass Effect etc which are its exclusives AAA titles... The Wii also released its Metroid, Super Mario, Zelda games... But the Ps3 has yet to release its big guns like MGS 4, GT 5, KZ2, Tekken 6, LittleBigPlanet, FF XIII... So my point/opinion is that even without the big games and a higher price tag, it did very well...

No, not bad at all.

I own Resistance, Oblivion, Warhawk, UT3, Motorstorm, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of destruction, GH3, COD4, Full Auto 2 battlelines, and everyday shooter. They are all outstanding games in my book.

No, not really. Despite what fanboys may spew on this board, I don't think ANY console is in jeopardy.

Basically, it's doing "average",
it's outselling the 360, hit 10mil first, etc,
but, the Wii is crushing it to death with one of those dinosaur robots that eats cars at monster jam,
you know the ones,
so, yeah, it's doing "average", not "great", not "bad", but "average" in terms of console sales.

Yes I agree with that and that's the point in this tread, that many 'fanboys' just trash the PS3 and its poor sales when in reality Sony consoles always had a slow start....

I think all consoles are doing great in terms of sales, and let's hope AAA titles will keep coming on all systems

I partly agree, but stating no Games its wrong... I enjoyed many games most of them being exclusives..

Resistance, Motorstorm, Heavenly sword, R&C, Uncharted, Assasins, COD4, Fifa08 etc etc so although its games library is not that huge it still had lots of quality games..

There can be no doubt that the PS3 needs at least one but a few Must have, can't wait, everybody loves it - type games.

I have been waiting for one to come out that makes me really want to buy one, set it up on my big screen and hyped as heck to start playing that game but as of yet........Nodda. :?

I'm not saying the PS3 hasn't any good games so don't go there - I said what I mean above.

PS: I want the original 20 or 60 gig at 399.99 with the PS2 chip inside for full flawless BC as well.

The problem with System Wars is that we seem to make everything look like utter crap. Everything is either the second coming of christ or a big pile of steaming turd fresh from the bowels of MS/Nintendo/Sony. Seriously, no system is terrible. They are all excellent and worth owning on their own, as well as beside another system. With that said, the PS3 is, imo, the weakest to date.

Sales-wise, it may be doing better then what the 360 did in its first year.. but that's not surprising, since sony basically is selling in 3 regions while MS only has 2(the americas and pal). None the less, it has the lowest install base of all consoles; and that's what is really important sales-wise. Perhaps, by the end of the year, it'll have caught the 360.

The problem with the PS3 is that it's been a multiplat machine for the most part. It got alot of hand me down titles from the PC and 360 for awhile, and when new multiplats were released it wasn't superior onthe PS3 like some had touted. That's fine and all for anyone who owns just a ps3, but it seriously needs must have exclusives. However, multiplats seem like the new thing for most big 3rd parties. This could make for an interesting generation.

Fortunatly, for the PS3, sony's 1st/2nd party did a good job last year and there are certainly a small handful of excellent titles exclusive to the PS3 like uncharted and ratchet. And that's what really made the PS3 worth owning last year.

Here's hoping 08 is brighter, it certainly is looking pretty good!(perhaps not the best, though, of all systems).

Don't get me wrong. I played those games. And I know very well PS3 had games in 2007. They just didn't have any break-out games that made everyone stop and pay attention. A game that made everyone say, "I gotta have a PS3."

I think that game is coming this year.

I think the PS3's doing ok. The library is still a little weak, but it looks to be getting enhanced considerably this year. I'm still not going to buy one, using my old devious trick of waiting until the end of the gen when they're cheap with plenty of games. I'm sneaky like that.

first of all we need to look at 3 different markets : the US, the european and the japanese market. all 3 have of course different preferences and consequently the ps3 has different sales values. first the US which is the bastion of the xbox360 with 11 millions sellings and thus is a hard terrain for sony primarly because the xbox360 offers games that are really shaped for US preferences e.g. madden is one of the top sellers on the xbox in the US and absolutely nobody cares about madden in europe or japan and Halo is way more popular in the US than in europe as you can see here http://vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=6964 (japan gives a sh&t about halo). what i wanna also point out is that with a platform so cut out for the US market like the xbox it is hard for the ps3 to gain that tyoe of customers with a spectrum of games that offers more variety (e.g. jump'n'run which the xbox lacks totally) but has on the other hand very few shooters (KZ is a rare exeption) which are very popular in the US. imo the situation should get better for the ps3 in the US otherwise we will see a world split in 2 between xbox in the US and ps3 in europe and japan

Well that seems like a moot point since Sony has decided to nix that sku as well. :?

As for the question. It's not a matter of a single title - only that I be confident in knowing any PS2 game I decided to play would work flawlessly just like the original PS3 models.

That shouldn't be too much to ask especially from Sony since that was their sales line not so long ago.

No, my point is stil valid. Fakeboys like you want to **** and moan about BC in a unit like the 80GB. When, in fact, it supports most of the big titles anyone would want to play.

I call your bluff. I call any gamer's bluff that wants to complain about partial BC. Because it isn't about the BC at all. Its about finding something to act like you care about so you can down the system.

If you honestly expected it to live up to Sony's crazy hype, you could say it's doing bad.

But considering the initial price tag, hardly any games for the first 6 months, a ridiculous amount of bad press, I'd say it's doing damn well. Cetainly better than a lot of people expected.

I have the 60GB PS3 but never played PS2 titles on it.. I have a PS2 and if ever I want to play a PS2 game I will turn on my PS2..

I got the PS3 to enjoy next-gen games on my HD TV not to play older PS2 titles... So for me though i have a PS3 which has the BC feature, its not important for me... And those who bash Sony (mostly Xbox360 fanboys) because they released new SKU's without BC just to have something to down it, I remind them that their loved MS stopped any support to the original XBOX just for the sake of selling more Xbox360's and be first in the next-gen console market...

BC is nice to have, but it not even that serious, even if you wanna play a PS1/PS2 game that you started already, you have to buy a Playstation memory card reader to get your saved data off the memory card, you would only use the thing once and your done (a waste of money) or you have to start the game over (dont see that happening on a old game). 360fans just use BC to try and diss the PS3, but the 360 is not fully BC either.

it did do well. i think it will continue to do well, and it has a very promising game release schedule for 08. my main problem with Sony was their inability to listen to consumers (not that MS is all that much better). i just think that they felt, at launch, that they could release a system, charge $600 for it, and no matter how poor the game library at the time, consumers would just blindly buy it. their attitude is changing, with a price drop, and the realization that neither Nintendo or MS are going anywhere soon. that said, i hope you're enjoying your PS3. i should own one by this summer.

So my point/opinion is that even without the big games and a higher price tag, it did very well...
