Is there a point to gaming if you're not playing on an OLED screen?

Anyone else feel taken out of the moment whenever they experience crushed blacks and over exposed colors? I can't imagine playing something that is outputted on a panel not using organic lighting but instead uses an artificial technique. Colors end up looking over saturated and fake.

lol, there certainly is, mid-range 4K LED such as the KS8000 can hold their own. OLED have the best picture quality, no doubt, but you don't have to have the very best to enjoy yourself. My general suggestion is do not get a low end 4K LED TV, at least settle for a mid-range one if you do not want to splurge for OLED. Lot of good stuff out there at great prices

My brand new 4K Panasonic Viera is awesome.

And OLED sounds like a name Willy Wonka gave to one of his Oompa Loompa's lol.

I like OLED, it's superior to other technologies in many ways, but newer models, such as the LG B7, are still missing a certain level of realism found on older plasma displays. Often the colours are in need of calibration and in a number of cases you'll have supersaturated blacks that are just too unrealistic.

OLED is the best option, but unfortunately it's not perfect.

@lifelessablaze: Too afraid to buy an OLED screen, especially for Gaming. The burn-in is still a very real problem.

OLED is great, but if OLED TVs are anything like my phone, they don't do a great job of differentiating between different black levels.

Of course. I've been gaming ever since consoles required something like this to hook up to a TV and computer monitors were capable of only 4 colors.

The iPhone X and a few other AMOLED devices have seen crushed blacks in certain applications. It's more of a software issue than hardware. For example Netflix on iOS and Android can exhibit this issue.

That wasn't a question. I was just informing you that black crush can still occur despite the capabilities of the hardware.

My HDTV is from 2007.

Games still look pretty on it. Including PC games. Sure it will be nice to have a TV with a better refresh rate and what not. But I have bills to pay first. I also rather wait till HDR matures more, before throwing money on a new TV.

I do like my 4k OLED, but hardly think it's the only way to play.

There are advantages and disadvantages to having one.

Yes the blacks are exceptional, but the screens do not flicker. There is more perceived motion blur without flicker.

There is no perfect platform right now. I do prefer OLED image quality though.

Believe me. The truly dejected among us are doing fine without OLED TV. Somehow, we have managed to watch TV for 55+ years without it. We've even spent some of that time playing games.

I yearn for the day I am fortunate enough to give LG or Sony 2K+ for a OLED set. Until then, I and the other 99.999999% of the TV/gaming public will muddle along with our saturated and fake colors.

Anything less than 8k/120fps, hdmi 2.1 and OLED I don't even bother playing. This while sitting in a jacuzzi after being transported by helicopter to my private gaming mansion in the Swiss Alps, of course.

It'll probably outlast an OLED TV. ;) I bought a 27" TV in 1996. I gave it away in 2008 when we moved to Upstate New York. When we moved back to Arizona in 2014, it's still being used by the current owner. Some DirecTV satellite boxes still have composite and S-Video outputs for older TVs.
