Games look better in progressive scan so 1080p or 720p is better.

1080p is for TV's over 40", anything less and you need to be using 720p. 1080i is interlaced and you dont want that

With a 32" screen you're not going to see the benefit of 1080p (unless you sit 4 feet away), so it's not worth thinking about.

When you say 1080p for TV's are over 40", does that include 40" screen HDTVs?

I just bought a new Sony Bravia 40" 1080p LCD HDTV + 5.1 Surround Sound + PS3 40GB combo package with DMC4 and Folklore : did I make the right decision in choosing a 1080p 40" HDTV? (my basement is too small to fit anything beyond 46" against a wall without hogging space. And large 40"+ screens while remaining at 1080p and with good contrast ratios and refresh rates start jacking up in prices... I find 40-42" to be the sweet spot for me).

When you have 40" you will see a difference. It's when the TV are in the 32" size you don't need anything better than 720P.

yes there is, and a lot actually, its twice the details...

and it has nothing to do with the screen size, more is more and less is less. olthough with a smaller screen size, smaller resolutions are acceptable while those same resolutions will look more and more horrible the larger the screen goes.

so for a 32" 720p will look great but still 1080p will be much better. for a 42" 720p will be very acceptable and the farther you sitt from the screen the better the picture will look to your eyes, and with a 1080p you can sit closer to the 42" without noticing the "pixels"... wich is the best thing that could happen to you...

if you had ever an experience with a PC you should know that. the higher the resolution the better... unfortunatly guys who just play on consoles really have no idea...

You should go to a audio video site and ask or do a search. Your going to get way too much misinformaiton in system wars.

anything below 40" should only be set at 720p.....since you wont see the difference between 720p and 1080p on such a small screen

This guy speaks the truth. Digital TV's are not capable of displaying an interlaced frame so they combine them which halves the refresh rate. With games your getting the same detail as 1080p with more flicker. This is because the frame is upscaled to 1080p first and then converted to 1080i. If you have a analog TV it stays at 1080i and if not its de interlaced.

Yes you can tell the difference. My old 19 inch CRT looked much better at 2048x1536 then 1280x1024. A higher res is always better so if you have the option you should useit.

There is a difference but only up to a point. When your sitting a bit away from your TV you won't notice much.

You can see a difference if you are as close to your TV as you are to your PC-screen but nobody does that so it's no point really.

Same resolution, different signal format. I'll just say this, You should only use interlaced 1080i on a CRT TV. LCD and Plasmas are a totally different technology and are meant to use progressive scan (p). They can display an interlaced signal, but the TV has to de-interlace the signal first where a CRT is naturally interlaced.

I dunno I see a big difference. If your using 1080p on a big TV your probably getting ther same picture quality as a smaller TV. However 1080p on a smaller TV has a much clearer crisper pitcue.

You need to find what the native resolution of your t.v. is (sounds like 720p). You should use 720p. if your t.v has a max resolution of 1280x720 it will only display that, all your doing is downscaling the 1080i resolution to 720p. keep in mind some t.v. scalers suck. Most console games 360 and ps3 are 720p or less. It sounds like what ur doing is having the 360 upscale and then your t.v. down scale to 720p. Basically your t.v. will accept a 1080i signal but will only display in 720p.

brief, the higher the resolution the closer you can sit to your tv without noticing the "PIXELS" wich is very good...

to answer you question yes there is a difference between 1080i and 1080p, todays t.v.s are mostly 720p or 1080p but will accept all sorts of resolutions.
