Really what's holding them back. I'm only 15, not old enough to get a job, and my parents won't pay for live. If nintendo can pull off that whole weather/news/polling/playing for free, and sony can do the whole mmo thing with streaming movies, avatars, etc. why can't msoft do it too? Either way, i'll be playing online with my wii when some online games come out for it...

Seriously though, how likely is this, shouldn't msoft have to make live free to remain competitive?

Is online gaming going to be free on the PS3.  The community and stuff is free on Xbox Live Silver, online gaming and downloadables are Xbox Live Gold (which you pay for).

So first we need to clarify Sony's online GAMING stance.

I think Microsoft won't change anything. It's owning the PS3 in every shape and form thus far, lets see how the online shapes up first for PS3 and then see if Microsoft will make a move.  I doubt it.

4 dollars a month man, I can find that off the ground. In fact, I found two dollars on the ground two weeks ago.

I don't think so. Live still offers features not available on PSN. When PSN catches up to Live in that aspect, then perhaps MS should consider lowering or eliminating their fees. If they do so now, they're likely to irritate the people who have already paid for this year or past year's service. Not to mention looking reactionary.

MS Should never ever make it free. Free = bad service. What I feel is that they should make it better, not free.

Yup...or better. Free would probably win over a lot more people though. Everyone loves free stuff.

im guessing you havent played a game on PS3 online. It runs lag free ans silky smooth. Now everyone is just getting crazy. PLEASE CHARGE ME. I've never heard PC gamers wishing that they could have an awesome fee to pay to play online.

I refuse to believe that parents would buy someone a $600 system but be unwilling to pay for live. Also. "i'll be playing online with my wii when some online games come out for it..."

Highly unlikely...Microsoft are business centred, they see through SONY's plans and they know in the end people will discover that SONY's online feature just isn't as free as they thought it was.... What might be possible is that MS might improve or add more to their online services, which I wouldn't mind seeing =)

You're too young and impressionable to be carousing online with drunk and socially-dysfunctional nerds anyway.

Got to give it up to Sony. Thank god they finally took the gloves off, and showed up in a BIG way. Right before the Euro launch too. M$ must be pissing themselves. For $50 a year I expect all that and then some. Forget that for $50 I want dedicated servers for every game, I want to be able to meet new people outside the game environment, I want to show off my gaming finess, movies, music... I want ... Home. Why am I paying for Live, when Home is so much better? (potentially) All Sony needs to do is put a rumble pad in that $600 box, and add some 'adult' rooms to those Home theatres, and they've got themselves another cow.

Is it really that cheap? I thought it was only that cheap if you bundeled an entire year, which i can't afford, not 100 at once.

Actually, i got the system for free (my uncle works for a tech firm) and my parents are afraid of me taking a picture of my privates or something similar to that (even though i wouldn't) so i have to get it without them knowing.

I think what most people are afraid of is that if MS decides to remove the online fee, the service will suffer. I play online for free on my PC, and I don't mind paying for XBL. As he said, just keep improving the service, and I'll be cool with that.

First of all, get this. YOU HAVE YOUR OWN HOST. PSN/XBOX LIVE DOES NOT CHANGE YOUR HOST. Playing a game on PSN will be very similar to XBL. The difference is in the service it brings. Xbox Live is having better service in one area, while the PSN is going to have better service in another. (When PS Home comes out) But you have to think of it this way, from now until when PS Home comes out. Microsoft can really improve Xbox Live.

I doubt it, unless they made a version that had very few features they might, a really basic XBL.
