I keep trying to force myself to buy a PS3 but I can't come up with a good enough reason to spend $300. I am still waiting for that one game that makes me run out to buy one. I thought it would be GT5 but when I heard about the generic cars and the big flop I just completely lost interest.

Killzone 3 really doesn't matter to me at all. On top of that it flopped so i'm not buying a new console just for that. The biggest reason so far is MGS4 but I wish there was something else. I guess Uncharted 2 is a decent reason as well. But I am mostly an RPG player. I don't really care too much about FPS or Action games. The main thing that interests me about the PS3 is blu-ray cause I have a 58" 1080p Panasonic Plasma in my bedroom where I do most of my gaming.

I am also interested in PSN games. Mostly old PS1 RPGs that may be released. Most notably FF7 is tempting me. Anything else on PSN that you would recommend? I already have a PS2 connected via component cables and it is a pain in the butt to play that on my HDTV. The PS2 was just not designed for HD screens. But it is a great RPG system so I keep it plugged in.

Where is that big game that makes me want to just buy a PS3? FFv13 maybe? If it is great and remains PS3 exclusive then I would definitely buy a PS3 immediately. Someon help me out here, what compelling reason is there for an old school gamer with a 360 to purchase a PS3?

PS3 has tons of great exclusives and will continue to do so. A PS3 purchase is more than justified even if you own the crap box. Look at at all the current and future exclusives and decide.

I'm not even going to read that. Being a PC owner I'm more liable to ask why in the world I'd want a 360 anyway. Especially since it does'nt get any new exclusives. Can't keep playing those old games, especially not considering the minisucle console libraries.

If you want Blu-Ray then buy it for the Blu-Ray player. You'll get one of the best players on the market with the added bonus of being able to play games on it.

KZ3 - Maybe if I already had a PS3 and it was priced under $20 I would pick it up. But i'm not buying a PS3 just to play this game.

GOW3 - It seems alright but it's just not really my type of game.

MLB the Show - Sorry but no.

Heavy Rain - Decent game but not a system mover.

Uncharted 2 - Yea I would pick it up but eventually.

GT5 - No way i'm buying a broken game like this. Maybe GT6 or if they release a new edition of GT5 with all premium cars.

MGS4 - Yes I want this game but it alone doesn't compell me. Maybe if the PS3 was priced at $200 then yes.

Demon Souls - coming out for the 360 this year.

Valkyria Chronicles - This is a good one. I am interested in this game. This will be right along with MGS4 and Uncharted 2.

Infamous - Is this anything like the first Crackdown? I really enjoyed Crackdown.

Resistance - Nah, this is a generic fps. Not interested at all.

Heavenly Sword - LOL are you serious?

I understand your predicament, especially if you don't have the funds for both. For multiplats outside of shooters (and a few other exceptions), I usually game on the PS3 but if MS had made the 360 more "futureproof" (as Sony likes to put it) by adopting a hi-def media format and including HDMI and Wi-fi in every console, it would have been a lot harder decision to stick with the PS3 as my main console.

As for the thread topic, I'd do it; the PS3 is going to have a monstrous year this year plus there's always the back-catalog you can check out. And in the meantime the 360 doesn't seem to be offering a whole outside of gimmicky Kinect titles until late in the year, so you might have a backlog of cash for the lack of game purchases you'll be making.

Exclusives, free online and blu-ray are a few features that could warrant a PS3 purchase. Though, to be honest, if you already have an HD console, get a Wii or save the money.

What do you want us to say? You don't like the console, so why we should change your mind? Don't you have any confidence to decide by yourself if you want or not a particular console?

I mean, this is the easiest thing to do, you like the games, buy a PS3, you don't like the games just don't buy it.

Actually I can easily afford a PS3. But I don't like to spend money unless I can justify my purchase with great value. If the PS3 had something great that I was missing I would order one right now off of Amazon. They usually have it on sale for $299 with a $50 amazon credit. And right now they took out that special but have the Killzone 3 bundle for $299. But again i'm not interested in Killzone 3.

And the PS3 for $299 with the $50 credit just doesn't seem like enough of a value. I believe the PS3 will drop to $200 later this year. I'll buy it at that price. But at $300 it just doesn't offer the great value right now that i'm looking for. Unless there is a great game that i'm not aware of. Maybe something on the PSN?

Demon's Souls is not coming to the 360, the spiritual successor Dark Souls is coming. Infamous isn't really like crackdown, you are basically a superhero who uses electricity to beat down people, you can shoot the electricity, so it's kind of like a gun in that sense.

You said you are a big RPG player. I'm assuming you are playing your multiplatform games on the 360, I'll suggest Tales of Graces f when it comes out, I heard that series is good but haven't tried it personally, Demon's Souls is great, if you like action MMO's then there's always DC Universe Online, White Knight Chronicles has a cult following so check out the reviews (not just the score) and see if it's something you would enjoy.

There's other great games, but it's hard to suggest some when you are saying no to some of the best PS3 exclusives. If you like downloadable games, Joe Danger, Super Stardust HD, and Shatter are great choices.

The PS3's price is not dropping to $200. They just had a price drop and now that the PS3 is starting to sell more, I don't see why Sony would drop the price when they're picking up steam unless Microsoft drops the price of their console.

Yes I paid $75 for 1600 live points and 2 years of free xbox live. You make it sound as if 360 owners always have online fees on their mind. As if I am being charged by the minute like with a cell phone or something.

I never think about online charges, I game online for years without a thought. So telling me gaming online for free is not compelling at all cause I already do that with my 360.

In short, if I had to have just one of the two consoles, there are enough games on either to satisfy me, and I'd be happy with that. If you have the money, having both is better, as it allows you to play whatever game you want and then laugh at people who bicker about which one is best.

Both the 360 and PS3 have fantastic exclusives that make it worth owning the system if they interest you, plus both consoles are pretty cheap these days as are the games so why not.

Ok, what games?

click the ps3 tab.

I did, I didn't find anything compelling. They don't have PSN games there. Maybe there's something great on PSN?

My online is already free. I paid $75 and got 1600 Live points and 2 years of Xbox live for free. I can game online for free for 2 years. Never pay one cent.

alexfla

You just said you paid $75.

Where I live, 1600 points is $20, and a year of xbox live is $50. So it's more like you paid $75 for one year of xbox live and 1600 points and got another year free.

You couldn't find any compelling PS3 games? I guess what they say is true, there's no accounting for taste.

I keep doing the same thing with a 360. Hell I had a 4GB with free additional $60 gift card ordered on amazon during black Friday (super cheap!!!), that I ended up cancelling even after processing the order. There's certainly a few 360 games I wouldn't mind playing, but honestly there's just so many games on PS3 in my backlog I don't have time. It just wouldn't be logical to order a 360 when it would probably sit in a box 90% of the time. Especially this year where there are almost no games for 360 that I can't play elsewhere, and a whole lineup of exclusives for PS3, it just wouldn't make sense.

I have had my sights set on a gaming rig for quite some time, over a year really. That's the direction I'm going to go for sure before Battlefield 3 comes out. If I got a 360 it would just be "more of the same" minus some features of the PS3, whereas a gaming PC will actually be a large step up from PS3. Whether it's a $500 rig or $1000 rig I haven't decided. Basically I want to get a feel for what it will take to play BF3 at it's highest potential and I won't need to go further than that. Once I go for that I'll probably just be playing PS3 exclusives and everything else on PC.

I was in your shoes. I bought a PS3 when I already owned a 360 because I had extra cash and I wanted to play Demons Souls. It was worth it, but not really for the exclusives. I was really disappointed when I played Uncharted 2 and God of War 3. The exclusives I really have enjoyed are 3d Dot Game Heroes and Yakuza 4. Gran Turismo 5 is just incredibly fun. I don't know how it could be considered a flop by anybody.

The real benefit comes with things like free multiplayer and certain multiplats being better on different systems. Then you have to consider if any of your friends are on PS3 too. I joined PSn+ for the free games I get, and I don't regret it one bit.

Tl;dr - Getting a second console is a luxury that will bring you a bit more fun, but not a necessity to enjoy this gaming generation.

There's plenty of reasons , I'll go by franchises : Yakuza , Sly cooper , inFamous , Resistence,God of War,Demon's Souls, Killzone , Gran Turismo , Ratchet and Clank , Uncharted , Little Big Planet , Motorstorm , Socom , Valkyria Chronicles , Heavy Rain , well , the list goes on , in my opinion it is certainly more appealing than the 360's unless you are a fan of , say , halo or any specific franchise not on the ps3 for that matter.

I have both and don't regeret , best of both worlds , and my ps3 is the most played.

It was a Christmas promotion that I took advantage. You can get 1 year of Live plus 800 live points for $45 or 2 years of live plus 1600 live points for $75. I think it was a great value. There were also a lot of great Holiday promotions I took advantage of this year. I always take advantage of their specials, they are usually great.

If you can't find some exclusive games that you want on PS3, then gaming isn't for you my friend. :P

Metal Gear Solid 4. I didn't buy one but I borrowed my friends PS3 just to play it. Defiantly worth it.

How is it if you've never played a metal gear solid game before? I've heard the cutscenes are ridiculously long, and it's more like an interactive movie than an actual game.

But paying is the opposite of free! Is this a joke or what? Anyway, if you need somebody to convince you to buy something then it's obviously not for you. I assume that you are old enough to make your own decisions.

The cutscenes are long, but it's still very much a game.

You make a very good case. Maybe I will wait for E3 to see what the price drop is and buy it then. I have a ton of 360 and PS2 games that I have yet to play. Also I have a 3DS pre-ordered and fully paid for. So I can wait for E3 to see if the PS3 drops to $200. Even if the drop is only to $250 I probably will still pick one up cause I know there won't be another drop for a long while.

I own both a 360 and Wii. I have plenty of games for both, and whenever I want to play a PS3 exclusive, I just head over to my cousin's house and play it there.

Even though I have the privilege of not necessarily having to get a PS3, of my own, I would argue that a PS3 would still be a great purchase. It's got strong online, Blu-ray capability, and in my opinion, the best exclusive line-up of all three consoles, especially when it comes to variety. There's something for everybody on the PS3- God of War and Uncharted for the adventure buff, Killzone and Resistance to satisfy the shooter crowd, GT for the racing fans, and more creative stuff like LBP2 and Heavy Rain. Honestly, the PS3's exclusive line-up is the most diverse.

I own an Xbox because most of my friends have that, and I'm big on co-op play. My Wii stays with me for the Ninty titles. But barring Forza and Alan Wake, It's hard to find something from the 360's exclusives that isn't a shooter. It's getting to be disappointing. If my friends didn't already have 360's and my cousin a PS3, I'd have gotten the PS3 over my current Xbox.
