At the beginning of last year, Lord Cerny blessed us with his latest, glorious, beautiful creation that would conquer the world and change everything- I speak not of the PS4 (who cares about that anyway?), but of Knack, the blessed gospel of the holiness that is Cerny.

When Knack was reviewed, it was slammed by those mere mortals who could not possibly begin to comprehend its infinite beauty, and people thought that Lord Cerny may have sipped. But then, when it came time for Knack to be judged by the masses, they proclaimed it unanimously: Knack was great!

Knack began to conquer the world. He claimed so many victims. Since his release, he has slain some mighty foes, and these include:

  • Mario, when he outsold Super Mario 3D World
  • Sonic, when he outsold Sonic: Lost World
  • Rayman, when he outsold Rayman Legends
  • Donkey Kong, when he outsold Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
  • The motherfucking Playstation 4 itself! Knack outsold the PS4 in Japan, in spite of the fact that Knack comes bundled with every console there!

Truly, there is no stopping Knack. The greatest game of all time. Mario? Pooh. Dark Souls? I laugh in its face. GTA 5, The Last of Us, or Zelda? Knack cares not for such puny foes. The greatest game of all time is Blessed Cerny's glorious creation- Knack.

Well being known as a cow on these forums, i'm apparently surposed to be very biased... so check this out

These sales figures are largely inflated by bundles... so they should be taken with a pinch of salt

Also the game sucks IMO...

See, Cows can be self critical... suck it lems

A decent little launch title. Kinda like Kameo elements of power.

To be fair, its the only kid friendly game on a console that has sold close to 4M. Sony is now going to be paying more attention to kid friendly games. DISCLAIMER: I know this is SW, but it doesn't mean that the PS4 is going to turn into a child only console. More than one type of genre of games can be created for it. :)

I don't think Knack actually sold a lot to consumers. It most likely sold 500K-800K to consumers. and maybe less. The game is mostly selling well because it is being bundled like crazy in some countries compared to the other games you mentioned in your OP charizard1605 so obviously knack would beat those games in some countries.

Knack has a knack for getting dem sales.

Also despite how badly most received it, from what streams and gameplay I've seen I did appreciate how they approached difficulty with how unforgiving it can be it's very old school in that respect.

There is no stopping this game until it gets discontinued eventually. Until then, it will remain slow due to due mediocre reviews from critics and users overall. It looks okay, but not very good either.

Looking forward to the sequel with more frustrating oldskool combat. Hopefully they can flesh out the combat system now that they don't have to rush for launch.

I think a large majority really are sick of the easy games. I know I am, I don't need to go on a power trip in a video game to feel good about myself, I like it when a game try's to kick my ass it makes the taste of victory that much sweeter.

The issue is that, rather than being difficult because of challenging game design, the game's challenge is derived from the clunky movement. Unlike other old school games, too, the combat is ludicrously simple. There's almost zero depth to it. Just mash square, dodge every once in a while and hope for the best. I played through the majority of the game at a friend's house and I found the difficulty to be incredibly uneven. Sometimes I could breeze past an area with no deaths and other times cheap enemy placement would kill me ten times before I could get past.

It's different from a game like Dark souls, where it remains consistently challenging the whole way through. Any challenge derived from Knack is due to poor game design, not challenging game design.

From what I've seen of Knack of the movement looked fluid enough, the challenge seemed to stem from obstacles and enemies tearing you up pretty quickly. Yeah it's extremely simplistic but honestly so is mario, you jump on their heads and use the occasional power up, in Knack you just punch.

Hopefully the next title has more depth, because if the sales are pointing to anything it will most definitely get a sequel.

I mean, its not really surprising. 5 million people bought a PS4 and they don't have anything else to play. Its either that or let the PS4 collect dust until next year

The controls feel incredibly stiff to me. For instance, in order to dodge and attack, you need to come to a stop and press a direction on the right stick. But when you dodge, there's a small but significant half second where Knack will not move at all.

The difference between Mario and Knack is that Mario mixes things up with its level designs and challenges. In Knack, you are always just going in a straight line punching things. The most variety you get is from the platforming. And the controls aren't responsive enough to make the platforming very much fun. Even when you grow huge, it doesn't feel very different from being tiny since enemies pretty much always scale with your size. There's very little room for experimentation in the way you play the game. In Mario, there is almost always more than one way through a level, plus the controls are tight, the power ups are fun and the design itself is intriguing. In one level, you might be swimming away form a giant eel, while in another you are timing your jumps and movement to avoid insta death lava waves. There's no variety or creativity like that in Knack.

I was watching a friend live stream it today to see if I want it. It seems like a decent game that has good potential for a sequel. I will get it once it's $39.99 or less.

@charizard1605: Knack is crap and I'm surprised the Japanese gamers bought it. They usually hate those type of games. Has Knack even sold a million copies yet? Oh wait a minute Knack is bundled. lol!! That why there are so many sales for it. lol!! I can't see any bright intelligent gamer spending $60+ for that game. Especially when it can't even hold a steady 30fps. It drops to 14fps. Cerny should get fired for that fact alone. If Kaz get fired at the end of the year, Cerny should go with him.

It was honestly a really fun game for me, but I traded it in towards something else when best buy had a 100% trade in deal. I will definitely pick it up again though probably on PSN or something because I honestly liked it a lot. It had that old school playstation platformer feel to it, was hard, and looked like a dreamworks movie.

This game is being sold to retailers a lot from what I heard, but not as many people are buying this game and it's mostly selling in bundles.Someone with industry connections talked about this yesterday in a gaf thread about this game.An actual ltd for this game is anywere from 500K-800K, but this will be hard to determine because it's being sold in bundles a lot.I don't think the fps matters much for this game, but the thing that would prevent this game from selling is everything else about this game and I don't really need to explain this.I don't get why people are bragging about this game's sales because it's selling decently because it's a launch title.Unless the next game in this franchise is way better than the original no one will really care about this game.

they should just pack Knack in every PS4 from here until the end of the gen and until they stop making the PS4, that way Sony can claim they have the best selling game of the gen that sold like 100 million copies
