Is there a better vampire game? 50 years on it seems like it's untouched.
You mean Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines? There are quite a few VTM games.
It had the right ideas, but unfortunately was super buggy and unfinished. The official and fan patches did make it the best vampire game ever, yes, but not on its own.
I guess you never played the BloodRayne games?
I have played the Bloodrayne games. They're just action games with a vampire-like (Rayne's technically a Dhampyr) protagonist.
VTMB actually tried to create a game for role-playing as a vampire, with full lore and exploration of the vampire underworld. They are miles apart in terms of ambition.
VTM actually makes an attempt to actively make you feel like a vampire with nuances between them. You're play-style changes entirely.
You can get infected by vampires and werewolves in the Elder Scrolls games so objectively from a commercial standpoint I'd have to go with those.

Played Oblivion as a vamp for perhaps 80% of the game.
Good stuff!! ;)
Of course it is, at least in my opinion. The seedy locales, the winding, intrigue-laced plot, the various off-the-beaten structures you can implement for a build, the literal greasy smegma you can almost smell stepping into any storefront on the strip. The ambience of Ocean House Hotel alone disqualifies any other vampire game. And let's not forget these two:
And this two-in-one:
The trauma-based Monarch storyline of Jeanette, the varied ways you can go about it. The burgeoning, psycho-sexual undercurrent of her snatched innocence, played out in a labyrinthine tour of her Id's realm. Dude, this stuff is unparalleled. The devs were absolutely on one at the time. Waaaay smarter and nuanced than 99.99999999% of the competition. Amazing stuff.
Haven't played it, and it's tough to call CastleVania a 'Vampire game' when it's aesthetically old horror movies not vampires. Outside Dracula & Alucard CastleVania doesn't feature many vampires at all.
As such it's The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver for me. It's so well designed. The only aspect that really hasn't aged so well is the combat, and even then it has enough going for it to be entertaining. This game was Devil May Cry a whole generation before Devil May Cry.
As for other Vampire games, Code Vein had a small following and was considered a "pretty good" Dark Souls clone. Never played it myself because Soul Clones just can't get behind. Played enough From Software Soul games.
I can tell you what isn't the best Vampire game.. Redfall
@madsnakehhh: There are vampires in SotN, but it's not an actual vampire game. The Masquerade is something else entirely, clan specific, bloodline centric, etc. The universe revolves around the rise and fall of genetic (and otherwise) lines in a vacuum, plot-wise.
@R4gn4r0k: Need to check that Vampyr out.
It was Castlevania, rando shit in my feed, got me in the mood to play a vampire game that was ironically anything but Castlevania.
This show is kind of overrated. It's ok, good in places, but the dialogue is dire even by animoo standards. Tries too hard to be adult.
Also that's about the only place in the entire series where it actually uses the soundtrack.
I tried playing it a decade after it came out after hearing the endless PC elite old timers yammering about it, and it didn't do much for me. had some charm sure but seemed pretty clunky, even with mods.
but, I also think Vampires are pretty lame in general and I don't think I've ever really enjoyed a vampire-related story/game/movie etc.
