I find it all a bit puzzling. But I am still a bit confused why they could not make the games (or consoles, rather) all backwards compatible to begin with; one of the beautiful things about consoles is they're all standardized, someone's console in Idaho is pretty much going to be identical (hardware-wise) to someone's console in Hawaii. It would be really easy to just make every consecutive generation play the older one provided it can handle the media format (i.e. optical disk, etc.).
I think remasters are a scam. I would much prefer to see reboots; I would love to experience a host of other games given the same treatment that the Black Mesa team gave Half-Life. Their profit margins would go down as that would actually take development time, talent, and resources; I imagine with remasters you can outsource that crap to some IT firm in India or just give it some poor suckers interns straight out of some game design school.
Maybe I am delusional, but Halo made in CryEngine would be pretty dope, with some redesigned levels. Or an Okami redone with professional voice actors and sharper visuals?
Idunno I think remasters are just cash-ins; I get it, you missed out on that game, fine, but if you played it already you should not feed the beast. RESIST! lol
Moving forward, I feel they need to provide a code with every single game; these remasters seem to come out soon enough (I'm sorry but if I need to re-purchase my favorite games every generation, that's too soon!) then they should offer a "90% off remaster" coupon to holders of the original game.
Paying full price for a game that is already developed, that has been released for years, and is for a previous generation, is bullshit.
