It cost a total of $370 for XBL this gen.....was it really worth it?

Let's take a look at the math:

Xbox Live launched in 2005.

Total price of XBL over 5 years (before price increase)=$250

Price increases by $10 in 2010. This leads us to 2012 in which the total for those years is $120.

$120+$250=$370.

Now before you go on a ran about how XBL is "better" and has all these "features" I have provided a source for all the features on all the major online services. The only feature that XBL has that PSN doesn't is cross game chat, XBL has no features over Steam.

You can see all this for yourself here (note some features are only available in certain regions):

Xbox Live features

PSNFeatures

Steam Features

You can't argue with the facts. So in the end you paid $370, the price of a new console, just to play online and talk to people playing different games than you. Was that really worth it? You could have used that money for other games. And I'm not even taking into account the $100 WIFI adapter that so many poor suckers bought.

Everything here is fact, you can check it yourself. Was it worth it? Are you willing to pay the same, or possibly more next gen? What if they do another price increase again?

I still have to wonder why Cows care so much about how other people spend their money.

But whatever, I got value out of it so, yes.

Not really, but Halo exists so whatever. Guess it was worth it.

Wish it was free though.

Oh I don't care what you spend your money on. People can buy whatever they want, I am just curious as to whether or not the people that paid for it think it was really worth $370.

I played online for free this gen, I don't care if people wanted to waste their money on something that is already free. People buy bottled water, I think it's silly but to each his own.

It's not as worht it as it was back in the beginning of thise gen but if you compare what PSN offered at launch compared to what XBLG offered at launch then the price was definitely justified. PSN didn't even allow you to send or read messages to people while you were in game until firmware 1.4 which didn't launch until the PS3 had been on the market for a year.

XBL still offers features that PSN does not have such as cross game chat and custom soundtracks in game (although some PS3 games do allow this)

$400 over the course of half a decade is nothing. Unless of course you're 14 and the only money you make is from mowing lawns. When you grow up and get a real job you don't worry about such trivial expenses. I spend an extra $15 dollars a month so I can have a wi-fi hotspot on my phone. that's an extra $180 a year. I could not pay it, but I choose to. Same thing with XBL, I'll gladly pay $50 a year to have party chat and play Halo. TL;DR: ITS NOT A BIG F****** DEAL I'LL SPEND MY MONEY HOW I WANT.

So that's what you're going to do the entire thread? Ignore people who say they found value in paying for Live and say they "wasted" money on it? :|

I feel that Live Gold is expensive for what it is. But, from 2008-2010 I would've said it's worth every penny.

If Xbox live was half the price it is now, and offer the same level of service, it would be pretty good value. Excellent, in fact.

No he got angry and threw a fit because I pointed out how much money he spent on it. He could have just said "yes it was worth it to me", he was clearly already pissed at paying for it, when he saw the total amount of money he spent it was like rubbing salt on a wound.

I merely answered the question. I found and continue to find value in paying for Live.

I'm sorry you (and quite a few other cows) are so upset about that that you continue to make threads like this one to validate your opinion on Xbox Live not being worth it.

$60 a year for P2P servers? Not a chance in hell would that be worth it. Personally I don't care, but lemmings made such a big deal over the $100 difference between the PS3 and Xbox 360's launch price that it does put things into perspective.

Ya they did end up paying more for their 360 than a launch PS3 or PC upgrade. But if that's how they want to spend their money so be it (but most of them didn't want to spend it, they had no choice).

I didn't pay for Gold from July 2008 to August 2012. When I started playing Halo: Reach online (through a friend's account with him) I felt like I wanted to have the experience for myself in my home. So I went out and got a year subscription for $40 and played Reach for weeks until Halo 4 came out. Now I just need to get my 360's fan to shut the f*ck up, so I can enjoy the games without a 100 dB noise in the background. I bought Gold when I thought it had value. Despite thinking for years that it was dumb to pay for online.

Ugh. Another one of these? Just let it go. People who pay it want to for a reason. I think it's stupid, but it's not going to change anyones' minds so move on.

Chutebox

I'm not trying to change anyone's mind. I'm just trying to put things into perspective. How is it worth it to spend $370 just to play online and do cross game chat? This is simply a question, I don't mind if people keep paying for XBL at all. Just curious as to how anyone can honestly justify it.

lolololol I seriously cannot believe you call yourself religious with this many assumptions and generalizations of other places on Earth.

I've been to Mexico before, the air and everything in Mexco City is heavily polluted. This is a fact. It doesn't go against my religious values at all, it's like saying North Korea is a bad place to live, that is also a fact.

So Mexico City is the entire country of Mexico?

Oh I don't care what you spend your money on. People can buy whatever they want, I am just curious as to whether or not the people that paid for it think it was really worth $370.

I played online for free this gen, I don't care if people wanted to waste their money on something that is already free. People buy bottled water, I think it's silly but to each his own.

ShadowMoses900

Some of use buy bottled water because our tap water taste like sh!t.

Good thing I live in the US and not Mexico.

I live in the US numb nuts.

You are just trying to make yourself feel better for your continuing support of a third place console that had nearly ruined a massive company and provided you with a disappointing experience.
