Because the games prices are INSANE....

I live in Greece and the retail prices are INSANE for games....Look at this:

http://www.multirama.gr/products/product?pid=0422530&catid=070205

Forza 3 at €65? Thats like nearly 1/3 of a WHOLE Xbox360!!!!!

And not that PC hardware is expensive....When one can get a HD4850 1Gb at less than €100....

If I lived in the USA I might have been lured to be a console gamer....But with games at these price no sir thanks....

Yeah, I live in Portugal and it's pretty much the same. Fortunately, there's Steam, dvd.co.uk, amazon.co.uk, play.com...

I take solace in the fact that pc games are often 2/5 cheaper than their console counterparts which in turn also makes me feel better about the price of my pc :)

Edit: And Retail pc games are mostly cheaper than Steam in Denmark :?

In the US you can still purchase a PC (a good one), for around $400 that comes equipped with more power, and a billion more features than the PS3/360 have. Plus there's huge online communities for the games, free content, mod support, and all that. The games also cost less.

I live in Ireland and the average price of a new console game is €60 and PC games are usually €40.

I import most of my games from the UK as it's alot cheaper most of the time.

Because outside of the US, schools teach you to be bilingual. It's not just an option that everyone takes for granted.

What is really insane is that you still buy your games in your country. Order them from the United Kingdom like every sane European gamer would. They often are €15 to €20 cheaper there. Try price comparison websites such as GamesTracker.com and/or Find-Games.co.uk as well. Online retailers such as MyMemory.co.uk have "Free Worldwide Delivery" and are therefore excellent to order from if you happen to live somewhere in Europe that is not the United Kingdom.

Yep, where I live the PC version is usually around 15 euros (22 dollars) cheaper as new. Depends a bit on the publisher though, I'm sure Activision is already hard at work finding a solution to this shameful disparity...

PC hardware is also relatively cheaper here compared to consoles, not by much but it all adds up in time.

Then I live in most expensive country!

New game at retail is between 70-80 Euros.

Luckily there are people who import games from other countries so I can get a new game for around 50 Euros.

Welcome to Croatia.

This and only this. The video game industry in the United Kingdom is very competitive and therefore prices drop quicker and are generally lower than in the rest of Europe. Price comparison websites such as GamesTracker.com compare prices for games between 30 retailers sometimes, for example. It's insane.

The fact that the exchange rate between the pound and the euro is so low helps a lot as well, so not only are the prices a lot lower in the United Kingdom but the rest of Europe buys games from there in a currency that is almost in sync with the euro to boot!

I know Greece is quite a bit from the UK, but don't most retailers have standardized shipping rates? £1-3.50 isn't a whole lot. I pay 18% less by importing. Sometimes much less as pre-order deals, deal of the day's and whatnot are more common amongst UK retailers. Got WET and Mini Ninjas for 60% less. They're £18 at Zavvi again btw. Also, a £1 discount on an introductory flying lesson.

With a price difference of often €15 to €20, the price difference is significant enough. With price comparison websites such as GamesTracker.com and/or Find-Games.co.uk, that price difference will only become larger. The exchange rate between the pound and the euro being so low will further enhance the aforementioned price difference. To top it all off, online retailers such as MyMemory.co.uk that offer "Free Worldwide Delivery" render your argument into a fallacy.

£36. = €40. Including shipping. Use the gosh darn sites he linked to. If you register at Gamestracker you can set up a watchlist and set it to convert to euro and include the shipping rate.

[QUOTE="Hexagon_777"][QUOTE="True_Gamer_"]Because the games prices are INSANE....

If I lived in the USA I might have been lured to be a console gamer....But with games at these price no sir thanks....True_Gamer_

I still cant find a retailer that ships for free to greece....And the price difference isnt that huge its like €50 for FORZA in UK....Add to that the usual €8-€10 shipping fee and the wait and risk of it being lost in the mail become POINTLESS...

MyMemory.co.uk ships to Greece for free.Forza 3 costs £40.95/€45.32 at MyMemory.co.uk. €64.99 - €45.32 = €19.67 saved.

This is what's left of your argument: The wait and the risk of it getting lost.

£36. = €40. Including shipping. Use the gosh darn sites he linked to. If you register at Gamestracker you can set up a watchlist and set it to convert to euro and include the shipping rate.

That's an even better offer than mine, even though yours contains shipping costs! Way to go! :D
