What is really insane is that you still buy your games in your country. Order them from the United Kingdom like every sane European gamer would. They often are €15 to €20 cheaper there. Try price comparison websites such as GamesTracker.com and/or Find-Games.co.uk as well. Online retailers such as MyMemory.co.uk have "Free Worldwide Delivery" and are therefore excellent to order from if you happen to live somewhere in Europe that is not the United Kingdom.Hexagon_777

I still cant find a retailer that ships for free to greece....And the price difference isnt that huge its like €50 for FORZA in UK....Add to that the usual €8-€10 shipping fee and the wait and risk of it being lost in the mail become POINTLESS...

MyMemory.co.uk ships to Greece for free.Forza 3 costs £40.95/€45.32 at MyMemory.co.uk. €64.99 - €45.32 = €19.67 saved.

This is what's left of your argument: The wait and the risk of it getting lost.

Do you even consider how many people are in the position of going through all that hassle? ONE game lost in the mail will cost more than THREE games bought from Greek retailers....instead of UK. I dont even wont to get to people that dont speak english.... The retail situation is as such you cannot deny it. And with the console sections of retail BOOMING and the PC shrinking it is clear that console gaming is much more expensive than PC for most of the consuming population.

How many people are in the position of going through that is irrelevent, because that's not what you were arguing. First it was about console games being ridiculosly priced in the EU, when it was proved that you could import games a lot cheaper from the UK, it moved to games being ridiculously overpriced in Greece. Now that someone has shown that you can import them into Greece just as cheaply, you moved the goalposts again.

It doesn't matter how many people will go through the extra hassle of importing, all that matters is that they can if they want to. If people don't look around and check out their options, then it's their own fault for paying so much.

Very nice. So you assume that I will RISK losing €50 to save €20? Are you serious? Read my OP again it is about retail prices. Then go and risk your OWN money. I wouldnt risk mine.

PS masochism is proven again having a debit/credit card, risking the detail of the said card online. Risking the product is lost in mail.

They will have to send you a replacement copy which will cost you nothing as far as I am aware or provide you with a refund. No money lost whatsoever. Are you deliberately ignoring the facts? Do you just want to argue that console gaming is more expensive and think you're right or do you want some advice on where to buy your games cheaply? Unfortunately it sounds like you're just here for the former.

Like I said, you won't lose any money whatsoever so that point is mute. Furthermore, what's the point of shopping with a debit or credit card at all? You risk your details every time! I have been shopping online for years and have utilised many offers exclusive to the world of online shopping without ever facing any problems. You can continue paying your silly prices in stores but I will order online and save money in the process.

:| Was that a serious question? Console games cost 55-60 euros where I live (usually 70 for LE's), depending where you look.

Guess someone needs to make a game with Euro-based distribution. Would be an insta-hit just for being cheaperz!:D

What's there to explain? I never argued that PC games are not cheaper than console games. All I did was give you shopping advice. You sound like a hermit trying to put consoles in the dirt.

PES is an exception; most game have a RRP of £39.99 on PC and £49.99 on 360/Ps3; the difference isn't huge.

Not really. They include the cost of delivery in the € price, hence why they have a very strange exchange rate between the £ and the €.

MyMemory.co.uk has actual free delivery in the EU. :P

Are you paranoid or something? Granted there's a higher probability of it getting lost on its way to Greece than Sweden, out of the 50-ish orders I've made, I've only ever had it happen to me once. When I ordered Dead Rising from Play.com. Waited two weeks and then notified them, they sent another copy free of charge. The next day the "lost" copy showed up. So I got two copies of Dead Rising for the price of one. Less than one actually as I sold the duplicate.

And how would anything getting lost in the mail cost you anything? I don't understand that. The only caveat of note is that you'll have to wait approximately one week for the games to be delivered.

But if you don't want to save money by importing from the UK because it's against your belief of it not being beneficial due to some made-up nonsense, then I guess that's your asinine prerogative...

Because the games prices are INSANE....

I live in Greece and the retail prices are INSANE for games....Look at this:

http://www.multirama.gr/products/product?pid=0422530&catid=070205

Forza 3 at €65? Thats like nearly 1/3 of a WHOLE Xbox360!!!!!

And not that PC hardware is expensive....When one can get a HD4850 1Gb at less than €100....

If I lived in the USA I might have been lured to be a console gamer....But with games at these price no sir thanks....

True_Gamer_
The prices in my country are similar but I import all my gaming stuff as most people do.

I have heard that £1 argument before but it surely couldn't be the only reason as to why practically every Portuguese on the GameSpot forums loves DVD.co.uk.

Oh well, if the Portuguese love DVD.co.uk because of their £1 delivery charge, then they will worship MyMemory.co.uk for having no delivery charges whatsoever.

We don't "love" dvd.co.uk, but 1£ is a hell of a lot better than 8£ or 9£ which is what amazon.co.uk charges. I didn't know about mymemory.co.uk, seems great.

[QUOTE="nunovlopes"][QUOTE="Hexagon_777"]I have noticed that you Portuguese really like DVD.co.uk but I still don't know why. :PHexagon_777

:)

Well, it doesn't have a huge library but the games it does have are usually cheap. Plus shipping costs are only 1£! I have no idea how they manage it!

I'm Portuguese and I didn't know DVD.co.uk was so popular over here :?

[QUOTE="Hexagon_777"][QUOTE="InsaneBasura"]By the way, is there a decent price comparison site for things that aren't games? I'm looking for headphones and realized that maybe those are cheaper in the UK as well.nunovlopes
Sure thing, bro.

Try

www.find-electricalgoods.co.uk

www.pricerunner.co.uk

www.hotukdeals.com

Good luck.

Man, I'm bookmarking all those links! ;)

Bookmark these instead:

GamesTracker.com

Find-Games.co.uk

They focus on video games. ;)

We don't "love" dvd.co.uk, but 1£ is a hell of a lot better than 8£ or 9£ which is what amazon.co.uk charges. I didn't know about mymemory.co.uk, seems great.

Example:

Crysis Maximum Edition

dvd.co.uk = £26.49 + £1 = £27.49 (http://www.dvd.co.uk/Games/Crysis-PC/EA06907/product.htm)
mymemory.co.uk = £28.95 (http://www.mymemory.co.uk/PC-Games/Generic/Crysis---Maximum-Edition-(PC-DVD))

"Love" was just a friendly exaggeration so please don't take offence. :)

MyMemory.co.uk is indeed great, perhaps greater than DVD.co.uk.

Did you catch the above, InsaneBasura? :o

Hexagon_777
Yeah, thanks. Think I'll end up just buying a couple from a local store though. The cheap ones are cheaper that way.

For that reason. For me it was "only" £5.50 though.

You peeps should check into Zavvi and Shopto. Zavvi changes their prices like once every day at minimum. If your timing is right you could make some sweet deals. Mega Mondays are always reliable though. Shopto charges £3.50 for their 1st clas recommended signed something or other shipping, but the prices are usually so low it'll end up the cheapest anyway.

Like I said, it's popular amongst the Portuguese who visit GameSpot, not in Portugal as a whole. :P
