Was expecting this to be announced in August, since it was a year after the PS4 and Switch release.

But R* decided to delay the announcement until October so they can have the halloweenie spookie feelings of Undead Nightmare.

Porting is being handled by Double Eleven

Can't wait to finally try Undead Nightmare with mouse & keyboard and with higher framerate, will make pulling off those headshots on zombies a lot easier.

Anyone waited this long for the PC version?

I own the game but have not played it. Do folks still care for it on PC?

Just read this and thought to make a thread on it. Happy you did.

RDR1 is the much more Fun RDR IMO and top tier PC gamers should be in for a visually fun treat especially including Undead Nightmare in the package. :D

I do. I've played it in several ways:

  • Original release on PS3
  • Original release on X360
  • Later on I bought the PS3 complete edition with undead nightmare
  • BC version on Xbox One X which ran the original version at 4K

After that I was tired of buying the game over and over so I skipped the PS4 release (which runs at 1440p) and then they patched it for PS5 so it could run in 60fps (though not flawlessly).

Pc version means:

I get to play this game every time I feel like in whatever resolution is available at the time.

RDR and GTA IV might be my favourite Rockstar games and the both run on the same engine and they have all thos euphoria phsyics I love so much.

It really is one of the best western simulators out there. But I'm biased because I love the stories that R* puts in their games.

But yeah if you really get into it it can become a really relaxing, really lonely game. And I feel am getting the same vibe from Ghost of Tsushima.

I vaguely recall that the stated reason RDR1 wasn't ported to PC was tech issue. I leaned towards thinking that being bollocks, but if it wasn't, I wonder what changed to make it finally happen now?

I'd get it for mod potential alone. But I've already played it so it's not a priority for me.

Rockstar was working on their own engine for a very long time, which was called the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine.

This was always a console centric engine, with a first release called Rockstar presents table tennis being only on consoles too.

But yeah couple this console centric engine with a developer (R* San Diego) working exclusively on consoles and yeah there wasn't much trace of this being able to run on PCs. Besides that there were rumors of the code being a mess.

Flash forward to a few years ago and Double Eleven took it upon themselves to clean up the code, and more systems naturally came into play.

This PC version will basically be a port of the PS4 version as that is the most flexible and the most tidy version of this game.

Besides that Pedro also makes some fine arguments why this took so long.

As a final point though, I don't care how long it takes to port something. Give me more games (Killzone, Resistance, ...) on PC and I'll be a happy chappy :)

Yeah same here, I played it last year so I'm not super excited to get this day one, but it's still nice to have.

And I also see they are adding HDR, which the consoles may not have had, as well as 144hz support.

Finally, I've been wanting to replay it. I was considering getting the Switch version but ended up skipping in hopes they would do a PC version. I've been wanting to play GTA IV again too, but that's been a headache trying to get working with fixes for me. I'll have to try again.

Ah, so they outsourced to do something they couldn't be bothered to do themselves. Never heard of that studio before. Hopefully they'll do a good job.

It's actually really bewildering to me as Rockstar has all these studios and they can't all be making GTA online content.

Now you could say they need them for GTA VI so other studios have to do the RDR and GTA DE versions, but this doesn't make sense either; Rockstar used to make so many games, what are their own studios up to?

same here, when they ported it to PS4 and Switch last year I finally had the realisation: fine, you can port it to more platforms? Well I'm gonna wait until you port to PC. And Strauss Zelnick even expressed interest in a PC version last year, but said it was up to Rockstar.

As for GTA IV, try out FusionFix, it should set you on your way.

Yeah, not much interest here. I mean 2-3 years is about what I consider reasonable. The time frame for RDR2, God of War Ragnarok, and Horizon Zero Dawn seemed in the ballpark. Even 4 years for Ghosts of Tsushima wasn't completely crazy.

With things like The Last of Us P1, Until Dawn, and now, this? I have no idea what they are thinking, especially since they will undoubtedly be charging premium AAA prices. Even Bloodborne is almost 10 years old now, I don't even think I would care about that if they released it.

Double Eleven did the console ports of Minecraft Dungeons, which they did a pretty damn good job, and their Switch version of RDR is pretty well received.

Let's hope GTA 6 comes out a little quicker 🥹...

I really loved RDR1 back in the day, much more so than the sequel which I thought was a slog. I replayed it a couple of times already. Allthough I am happy about this release I don't think I will go back. The game is just a little bit too long. But it's nice that it will now be preserved, because it is a classic.

Played it on switch. Imo Gameplay aged badly. Map is empty dull. I guess this is what you expect from a game 2 gen ago.

I mean they ported it to mobile hardware, so a PC port doesn't seem like too crazy of a request and it'd make a lot of people happy.

Yeah I'm going to give that a go today since I got the day off and try to restore the music too. Fixes and music are the main things for me.

Steam guides should go a long way to help you on your quest to fix/restore GTA IV.

But from what I remember with my last playthrough it really needed Fusionfix to get things going. And there is also DXVK which will remove some of the games performance bottlnecks.

it's the gameplay i'm concerned about. i don't think time will have been mass effect levels of unkind, which still has a fantastic story and atmosphere despite the gameplay aging like milk, but not kind enough to charge full price for

I may pick this up for PC if it's a good port and not insanely overpriced, although I have my doubts--it is Rockstar, after all. I had the original on PS3 and became quite bored with it because the game had crazy strong auto aim where you didn't even really have to try, and turning it off made it unplayable because of inconsistent framerate along with trying to use a controller. So, it just wasn't fun.

Could be good on mouse and keyboard, though.

Yeah I'm looking forward to see just how much they can tweak this to a PC experience.

Like I wanna be there day one and see the game in ultrawide, 144hz and HDR10. Along with PC controls it could really push it over the edge for me.

It was more work than game.

Wenzen got the boot for pissing off someone higher up than the mods, which is believed he did in an article on the main page.

It's a little quite without wenzens special kind of stupidity, but we'll survive without him 🤣🤣🤣

On a side note, I'm surprised he hasn't created an alt yet.

Excellent game. Really enjoyed it on the Xbox 360. Loved the whole GTA in the wild west thing. Really good story and cast of characters. Very emotionally strong ending. Fun gameplay. Liked the dead eye system.

@last_lap: no. Interesting. I’ll kind of miss his stupid sense of humor and reasoning. Oh well. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Great game. Really enjoyed it. Saw on another site people complaining that Rockstar is lazy for not remastering it and adding all sorts of new features. I barfed a little in my mouth when I read said comments.... Remastered games are lazy actually... Let Rockstar make something new, thanks.

I still want Rockstars to actually make a freaking Pirate game. If Rockstars can do Western era, why the hell you cannot make a Pirate gaming era?

Rockstars can't make a new game to save their lives.

Put me down for that pirate game. Sounds fun!

This is true... Imagine them getting sidetracked further with remakes and remastered games... Man would be on mars before gta 6 launched.

Oh lordy! I haven't played this in ages. What's the price to replay a game from 14 years ago? Hmm.
