Move and shoot gunplay. Anyone else bothered by this?........apparently ACCORDING to capcom, it instilled fear and tension when you're not moving and shooting due to be chased, etc.....i can somewhat understand this but after all these entries in the series, one REALISTICALLY should expect moving and shooting gunplay. Hell even Silent hill 1 for the PS1 one.....had it. Talk about lazy design capcom.

Thoughts?

Video games aren't always supposed to be realistic and meet realistic expectations. Game logic is where the fun is at.

Hasn’t ever bothered me before. I enjoyed Resident Evil 6 but I’ve also enjoyed all the previous RE games as well and I still enjoy playing them again from time to time.

No, never cared about it, always worked well and I found that moving while shooting in RE6 actually made it worse.

they weren't even going to have strafing controls in RE5, it was just going to be tank controls like RE4, be lucky we got even that, by the time that was introduced they probably could have done moving while shooting except it probably would have thrown the balance of the game off since it'd be far too easy once that was added and they'd of had to redo level designs all over again to make up for lack of difficulty

The tank controls of RE 1-3 was the biggest flaw in what were otherwise great games. But for the survival-horror genre, it wasn't seen as a deal-breaker back then, because it just added to the tension (whether intentionally or unintentionally).

RE4 got rid of the tank controls, but still kept the stop-and-shoot style. A major reason for this is because RE4 was modeled after light-gun shooters. RE4's stop-and-shoot style was like a middle-ground between three genres: survival horror, light-gun shooters, and TPS. And while it could've been a deal-breaker for any other TPS, it worked brilliantly in RE4, because of how incredibly well the whole game was designed around its stop-and-shoot style, like a survival-horror meets light-gun shooter.

But in RE5, which went in a more heavily action direction, its stop-and-shoot style just doesn't work. RE5 is a heavily action-oriented co-op TPS, where a control scheme like that just doesn't make sense.

RE4 and RE5 were easy enough as they were. And RE6 still sucked, so it shows that it didn't help much by removing the tank controls.

Yet 6 is largely considered worst in series...

RE series has always been in good hands.... regardless of how you feel about the older games now, at time of release these games are always aces. They hold up well today too, tank controls and all. Ill never forget launch day of RE4, the game blew my mind and revolutionized a whole genre. That opening Pueblo.........

I cant take anyone serious who's calling a game developer lazy... doubly so when talking about capcom... triply so when talking about capcom making RE games.

You're presuming they were trying to achieve this from the first game. It's not clear that they were.

I 100% believe the garbage controls were unintentional all these years. Gamers were just forgiving because Resident Evil was strong in other areas.

Playing any RE game for the first time is a jarring experience compared to normal control scheme games. I always have to re-learn everything.

Never had an issue with the tank controls. The games played great when they first released and are still playable today even to new comers as long as they stick to it and get a handle for the controlls.
