It truly baffles me that Halo can launch smoothly but CoD can't.....

I was over my co-workers house, talking and watching him play BO online (360 version). The amount of lag I witness was ridiculous, yet expected. Ever CoD game has had a lag-filled launch.

Cod 2 - unplayable for atleast a month after launch

CoD 3 - not as bad as CoD 2, but still ridiculously laggy at launch

CoD 4 - smooth beta, yet somehow releases in a much worst state

WaW - I was exicited to hear Treyarch address the lag in CoD 4 and their intentions to address it. Release day comes and lag is included with ever purchase...

MW2 - another game nearly unplayable at launch.

Black Ops - I read over and over how dedicated servers would lead to a smooth launch. Well, here we go again. Horrendous lag, disconnects and the usual b/s.

Why did I play Halo 3 at launch with minimal problems? Why did Reach come and also have a smooth launch for the most part? I'm not tech guru so I need to be informed....

Bungie > Treyarch/Infinity Ward. That's all I can say.

I've played CoD4, WaW, MW2 online on the Xbox and I can easily say that they run better than Halo.

Yeah, Black Ops has serious online issues, as I get repeated games with crazy lag. Halo Reach runs fantastically well.

This is something that seriously needs to be addressed, especially considering the popularity of CoD's online.

What difference does it make to them? It'll still be a juggernaut, people will still buy it en masse.

I agree. I would understand if Halo was a game with a small community. However, both games have a fairly similar online population (number wise), so the staggering difference in online performance is mind-boggling...

first of all , maybe its his internet connection ,, not every one has the fastest /optimal speed needed to run without lagging , or it was the hosts speed,

every 360 game ive played has lag, halo is not excempt ,

it has to do with the host's internet speed

not the game itself

fact is , you can claim all the bull you want , halo is just as laggy as any game when played by a said host ,

and halo is extreamly overrated dont even consider that fps, you want a fps ,, goldeneye or resistance 2 are so much better,

or theres of course what you hate - cod mw

or crysis , those are what i consider a real fps experience that changed the genre or proved to be one to look for

halo is old as heck , nothing changes about reach and it will not because bungie is so lazy to include bots and a real map maker bots in multiplayer is a big plus for fps have been since duke nukem 64

some how developers keep forgetting that one aspect ,

also i know for a fact mariokart wii and goldeneye wii has the best servers of any game ive actually played and i own over 300 current gen titles,

(110 360 disc games plus about 60 xbla) 106 wii plus wii ware games uknown number but well over 40 are downloaded 33 ps3 games 3 psn titles 18 psp games and over 30 ds games 1 current gen pc game-rainbow six vegas)

so ya , um i know what ive played and its every known franchise that has started since nes

so i can in fact say its not the servers it is the community , some players in the community hack and cheat

this is the major problem amoung the most populated games ,

and if micrsoft dont take action and i mean immediate action against this , nor sony or nintendo , you will continue to se ehacking and cheating thus leading to players getting kicked from the match

the main reason games can lag is the host has a lag switch if that host is the one your playing with , ,

your going to have lag , sure glitches are a whole different story so far gta iv has the most glitches this gen ,

So because people will still buy it, a developer shouldn't care about a product's quality? Last time I checked, Halo also sells an astronomical amount of copies. Yet, their launches work out just fine....

Is it because Halo utilizes P2P while BO has dedicated servers?

By this I mean everyone connecting to each other using their own connections, vs. everyone connecting to a limited number of dedicated servers and overworking them.

I honestly don't know however, this is just something I'm throwing out there.

That same internet connection runs halo very smoothly. If you honestly think Halo Reach is as laggy as CoD 4, MW2 or BO, you're living in a world of fantasy. This thread isn't intended to dissect Halo. If you like R2 or Goldeneye better, who cares? This about how a game just as populated and popular as CoD can have a smooth launch. Lastly, If I hated CoD so much, I wouldn't buy every release at launch (that's how I know that each launch is severely flawed). Call me crazy, but I'm optimist, always thinking they will eventually get it right.

Very true, although you're exaggerating a bit.

Although they don't get flamed for it, I'd say launch COD titles are as bad as Gears Of War 2's launch.

That sir was beyond awful. Why i bought it at midnight I don't know, cause i didn't get a decent match for weeks.

That's not what he said. This isn't a place for you to bash Halo either, it's out of place. It's simple, CoD has been experiencing issues online, most other games don't.

I have played BO around 6 hours online, so you probably need to ditch dial up. Great game btw. Campaign was much improved over MW2.

"Incoherent nonsense"

mariokart64fan

LOL! Surely you don't believe what you just type.

Halo is old, Reach hasn't changed anything? Then you claim Black Op's is good? Hahahaha, Black Ops is MW2 with a slightly different online component.

Mario Kart and Goldeneye have the best servers? LOL! What next. Super Smash Brothers has the smoothest online play?

R2 and COD are great but Halo sucks? Not even R2 fans like R2. Resistance 1 was so much better it's not even funny.

Yeah Treyarch needs to get to work to iron out these online issues, the most frequent reported problems are bad hit detection, apparently the spawns are atrocious, the enemy footsteps make no noise and not to mention framerate problems. I am so glad that I didn't go run out and buy this game the opening week like I did with Modern Warfare 2.

I only picked it up today but the lagand framerate problems reported aregone thanks to an update.Hit detection is odd, but i've always found cod hit detection off. Footsteps make sound, unless you're on like a catwalk or something, not huge but can cause some problems.

The Spawns ... Well it might just be me but I get spawned killed way too often.

360 right? That's probably the version I'm getting since the problems are less prevalent on that version then on the PS3.

CoD is an on schedule rushed out the door cash grab. Halo is a huge cash cow, but Bungie is actually interested in taking their time and releasing a finished product when they start. Not to say it's perfect, and they're still beholden to deadlines, but they definitely put more time and care into their products than the multiple CoD developers. I like how every single wall of text post you make mentions something about Nintendo when the topic's not even related to Nintendo in any way whatsoever and you just start running off your mouth about how Goldeneye is the best FPS ever when it's overrated by sheep such as yourself and has aged badly.

Nah, it's pretty meh in general. Don't get me wrong, it's nota *bad* game, but it's also not in the same league as the other Halo games. ODST I could see an argument for being a relatively unmotivated cash grab, but it was released as a veritable expansion pack with only a secondary team working on it, with no new tech. Every main Halo release has had more time and resources put into them than the CoD games.

Yeah, part of the problem is that Call of Duty is a multi-platform release while Halo is only on one. The Call of Duty developers have to port the game to all three platforms and then organise multiplayer functionality, patches and DLC across these three radically different online services. For the console versions the patches also need to be approved before they become available, which slows things down and may even encourage them to try to bundle multiple fixes into a single patch.

Of course it does... It's the way it is. CoD is the Madden of shooters, whereas Halo tried to be something a bit more distinctive.

so i can in fact say its not the servers it is the community , some players in the community hack and cheat

this is the major problem amoung the most populated games ,

and if micrsoft dont take action and i mean immediate action against this , nor sony or nintendo , you will continue to se ehacking and cheating thus leading to players getting kicked from the match

the main reason games can lag is the host has a lag switch if that host is the one your playing with , ,

your going to have lag , sure glitches are a whole different story so far gta iv has the most glitches this gen ,

I'm not a fan of CoD, or even FPS games in general for that matter, but....what? I picked up both CoD2 and CoD4 at launch and had no problems with either game whatsoever. I do remember the occasional lag issues with CoD3, but nothing out of the ordinary as far as online FPS goes.

I'm not having too many problems with Black Ops, just a laggy game every so often. I had more problems with CoD 4 in it's first months on the market (both played on PS3). Still, Bungie has really optimized their network coding to great heights over the years. They're great developers.

[QUOTE="Deathtransit"]What difference does it make to them? It'll still be a juggernaut, people will still buy it en masse. kobedaGOAT

So because people will still buy it, a developer shouldn't care about a product's quality? Last time I checked, Halo also sells an astronomical amount of copies. Yet, their launches work out just fine....

I don't like it but it's obvious they'd rather rush it out than spend more time ironing bugs out. They get away with it because everyone buys it anyways.

because halo is the same old game where they just re paint the colors a bit, and add some features from their bag of toys.

Wait, isn't that what COD does, just with less polish?

I've noticed nasty lag in Black Ops-- I'm hoping to see it rectified soon.

You played Halo 3 and Reach without any network problems? Lucky you, cause I sure didn't.

I've been playing online since Tuesday and the first time I experienced really bad lag was a few hours ago. I jumped into the middle of a FFA match and EVERYBODY had two bar connections except for one guy who had a three bar and another who had a one bar. It was literally the Matrix the whole match. Amazingly, when that match was over all of us stayedon for the next one and it ran normally. The biggest issue I had was that I would sit and wait several minutes to get a match on FFA but if I switched to another mode I would usually be in a match within 60 seconds. Also, I had one FFA match where four of us started, two people backed out, and it was just me and one other person without anybody else joining in. Hopefully the first patch is coming soon.

I don't see how this post was necessary at all. Mindless trolling and nothing more, really.

Very rarely is their a new product launch that goes without any kind of hitch. thats why we got patches.
