I like the gamepad as well. I have no idea why people endlessly bitch about it. The standard controller does feel better, but I'm convinced that people will bitch about anything that's not a standard controller. Gamers can be extremely close-minded and resistant to change.
It is pretty freakin limited for a wide variety of genres, and the company behind the device made a whopping 1 game that has actually shown significant use of that pad. Super Mario 3D Worlds uses are pointless, Smash out right doesn't need it, ditto for Kart.
So what you're left with from Nintendo's standpoint is Nintendoland (which as a minigame collection isn't nearly as compelling as Wii Sports), and ....Splatoon, and even that is a map you get to look at, the actual motion controls aspect of it is frankly terrible. It's like a poor man's mouse.
Beyond that you have Affordable Space Adventures and Zombie U which actually are more profound uses of that hardware, so it's not necessarily that gamers are shit. It is as always the company trying to selling the thing is actively doing a pretty shitty job selling the thing. Shit they were bad at this stuff when the DS was doing its thing, it wasn't their games that truly shined when it came to why the DS dual screen stuff was great. It was a bunch of third party stuff that used it in clever ways.
