How do you sell a $600 console? Sony's answer was to tell people that they are making an investment. But as time passes their job of convincing us that PS3 is a good investment is sounding more and more bogus.

But what does this mean? Imagine that Gamecube was the most expensive console last generation. The sales would have suffered as a result. But what about third party? Videogame developers go where the money is - and Nintendo are offering the fastest growing install base with the cheapest development costs. There is one final factor to consider. Developing a new game is not easy, but porting to similar hardware is. It is most likely that third party support will migrate away from Playstation 3 onto other platforms, while previously announced third party exclusives are ported onto PC and Xbox360. Such as Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Final Fantasy XIII.

Playstation 2 is a fantastic console. Everybody should own one.

I can't say the same for the Playstation 3. 

PS3 was a giant mistake for Sony.

They thought they could introduce a completely new media format with a gaming console.

Why do you think that?

I don't expect consumers to ignore Uncharted, Killzone, Ratchet and Clank Future, and GTAIV later this year. Next year will be the main battle though and PS3 will take the lead when GT5, MGSIV, FFXIII have all been released. That's my prediction anyway.

I can understand why people would hope Sony fails but everyone should understand the competition provided by the PS3 is a good thing.

This is why Nintendo will win the console war. This is why Sony won't.

It's not just the price either. Look at the difference between marketing. Sony are loosing it. 

Well this isn't really anything new, you are just using NPD like everyone else to show PS3 low sales, but really didn't you expect that?

 Also how you say third parties like MGS, DMC4 etc ''will'' migrate into other consoles, you mean 360, right? Because they aren't looking to go into Wii so far.

It's really interesting how back in the day sheeps were totally agains casuals and how they are ruined gaming, but now casuals are sheeps weapons, oh and sales too.

Killzone will probably be the best selling PS3 game over the Christmas season. Uncharted will do well. I mean, like I said, I can understand why people who don't own a PS3 want these games to fail, but the reality is that they won't.

The problem with Sony's future lineup is that it's so awfully generic and loaded with sequels (if not by name then by theme.) The only exception is LBP.

All i know is that i ahve a Wii, and will be collecting dust until the next zelda arrives, when i will be poping my eyes out in PS3-360 and maybe PC gaming with real games

Gears of War sold consoles...so you cannot just saw new games wont sell. I doubt Uncharted will just because of the type of game it is, but Killzone is a mindless shooter like gears, halo, rfom...so if it is done right it will sell.

the main games people use to defend the ps3 and predict good times in the future for it are gta iv, mgs 4, final fantasy xiii and sometimes gt5 and killzone

since grand theft auto is dual format i think it can be discarded as a ps3 trump card. mgs 4, final fantasy xiii and gt5 i'm sure will be successful but the first killzone games have been unimpressive at best. as much as i like mgs and final fantasy and love gran turismo i can;t justify spending $600 (even more in europe where i'm based) for 3 likely AAA games

This is true. The PS2 is amazing and I love that console followed by the SNES,DC, and 360. I really cant say the same for the PS3 even if (when) it does get some good games the interest for me is gone. I bought all the PS consoles but this time around I think I am just going to pass on the bluray player.

i just deleted all but one of the pictures so that the post wouldnt be massive. what i was getting at is that posting a load of screenshots of unreleased games and expecting that to end the debate over ps3s success is just laughable.

as people have said, pretty graphics don't necessarily guarantee you success and they certainly don't give any indication of gameplay, difficulty, sound, value for money etc...

yes, gt5 will probably be a big seller but i only say that now because there has never been a bad gt game and not because i base all my opinions on screenshots.

Yeah, every console will have system sellers, but it's the price tag that'll counter that for the PS3. Give the PS3 a price drop then maybe it'll kick off.

I have to ask cows this...What good games were on PS2 6 months after launch?  I'm guessing not much.  PS2 was also $100 more expensive than Dreamcast.  Just THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF PS2 pretty much halted Dreamcast sales.  I'm not kidding!  PS2 destroyed Dreamcast.  Dreamcast had some great games when PS2 released.  Didn't matter one bit!  Now, PS2 had DVD playback...maybe that helped it a lot.  But, seriously...WTF!  Why is the Elite 360 selling REALLY WELL.  I mean, it sold 67,000 in its 1st week, whereas PS3 sold 82,000 in the last month!  And 360 is now on its 3rd sku!  I ask you this...WTF! 

So, gamers will pay $480 no problem, but not $600 for a console that has a blu-ray player?  DVD player for cheap is one of the reasons that many people thought PS2 sold so well.  Blu-Ray player for cheap in PS3....no one cares?  "Bu bu but Blu-Ray sales aren't that great anyway right now." Neither were DVD sales in 2000.  There is no logic to this industry.  My head would explode trying to figure out the "reasoning" behind all of this.  Would PS3 sell any better at a cheaper pricepoint?  I don't know.  The $500 sku was phased out from "lack of interest".  But the Elite 360 is only $20 cheaper and there is great demand?? WTF! people are buying the elite 360 because it's still cheaper than the ps3 and it already has a large selection of good games that are already out. all the ps3's top drawer titles are as yet just screenshots. so there's no certaintly of them being good.
