its great.

i got crysis warhead recently. brilliant i thought as i rode home from town on the bus and was really looking forward to geting home and playing it straight away. as soon as i got in i got it installed (id already played though crysis so i new my PC could handle on medium no problem) patched it and started playing.

but at the end of the first level the screen went black i waited a few mins and still just a black screen. so i alt-tabbed.. nothing alt-F4 nothing... crlt-alt-del... nothing if i clicked my mouse i could here the windows ding ding sound but could not do anything so was force to hold the power button down to turn off my PC. just 'one of those things' i though. but no the second time i tried it did exactly the same thing again and again at exactly the same point.

it was at this point i discovered just how much fun hunting for advice and help on google is.

nevermind that game i was looking forward playing.

now i could enjoy searching through forum posts of people who have had simular problems to me and had fixed it by altering things like registry setting, ini files and up dating drivers. then i could use that information too try solve my little puzzle. even after several hours of trying this and that, re-installing the game and patch and update it was never enything less than a joy.

this is something console gamers miss out on. i mean you either get to play your game or you don't because your hardware is faulty and it need to get picked up for repair. there is none of the fun of not know exactly what is wrong or not knowing exactly what you need to do or who you need to talk too if a game does not work.

i never did get warhead working. i still get a black screen at the end of the first level. but that is not the point. the point is im playing on a PC and i feel great

Lazy. :P

I have never had any problems like that at all.

The only time i have had trouble is trying to install a really old game on new hardware, Or a new os. But that is still nothing major really.

I must be the luck one then because I've never had any problem playing a PC game, No black screens, no audio issues, nothing..install and play. Maybe keeping hardware that's relativity new with updated drivers helps, I don't know.

hmmm yeah, but the majority of people don't have problems.

it usually something the user has installed on there pc or done to there pc that causes the problem.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a prime example of the 'n00b.' Luckily, our platform is designed so that a minimum level of input is required by the player, effectively protecting us, to a reasonable extent, from these vile creatures.

You can either take it apart and apply new thermal paste and hope it works.... or..... wait 3-5 weeks for Microsoft to repair for you.

If you are out of warranty, well pay up $100. (If Not More.) I did it myself when it broke...5 times.

------

Now for games; you have no choice but to wait for the developer to create a patch and for Microsoft or Sony to verify the patch. Max of 3 Patches before a charge is in effect.

I've actually enjoyed it also. When I use to pc game, I actually learned a lot from the web, and from the IT guys at work on how to solve issues. I mean, I tried to watch and follow what they did, but I'm not an IT guy. I'm an After Effects, Cinema 4D guy. But, at any rate, the viruses and worms were tricky though. Seemed to get them and I wasn't using the crappy mainstream Nortons or McCaffey. Didn't mind sitting at my desk at work, then going home and sitting at another desk to game. But yeah, was a learning experience. Learning while trying to game is cool with me.

The biggest problem I have had to troubleshoot was not having sound in Bioshock on Windows Vista. The only other issues I have had to spend much time troubleshooting are related to getting old games to run on Vista 64, and that's just expected.

Same here.

See the difference is, if your GPU fails on your computer you can buy another one and even use it if you have the right mobo, if your console GPU fails, looks like you're out of luck.

What are you nuts? PC gamers are now expected to fix broken/buggy games when they come out? Oh sure let me just go get a copy of the source code so I can start debugging Crysis 2...

BSOD once? I find that very, very hard to believe, but ok. Anyway, at my place of employment, there are hundreds of computers at work, from editing to animating to powerpoint presentations etc. etc. etc. There isn't any overclocking, modding etc. going on. And bsod occur regularly. I understand that, at very rare instances, bsod can be a user problem, but I'm sorry, this is a software/pc problem through and through.

don't you know? any true PC gamer has the IQ of 5 billion not only can they rewrite machine code they do so within seconds, its completely your fault you didn't extract the games to a source file and edited the games code it self to get it to work...something all true pc gamers can do.

Sounds like your work needs to get more reliable computers, even with hundereds of computers bsod's should not occur regularly. In 6 years I have had 1 bsod due to overclocking like the user above said.

i hear ya man.. PC gaming really comes with a lot of issues. i get this sometimes, the only problem with my blank screen is my Denon sound system sometimes doesn't recognize the HDMI source when my PC switches resolution. This usually happens when I start a game (not frequently though). So I usually solve this issue by switching the HDMI input source through the remote to my X360 then back again to my PC and the problem gets solved. So in case you connect your computer through HDMI, once you get the blank screen, you could unplug your HDMI cable, wait for few seconds, then plug it back in and your problem will hopefully be resolved. And for hating on PC gaming, I hear u brother, my advice is just hanging there, you'll hopefully get to the bottom of the problems you're facing and solve them by either upgrading hardware / software patches /etc..

Wish there were forum posts that told me how to run C&C the first decade properly on windows 7 without downloading an unofficial update and even then some of the games still don't work correctly in the pack.

Yeah I'm pretty certain the PC users that say they've had no problems, ever, are lieing because there's quite a lot of random little bugs and glitches that can break a game purely because of your hardware configuration and system set up. Like I download Call of Juarez BiB and everytime I started it would crash after the first cinematic, googled it and found out that if I set my Sound settings to DVD quality output or something it would work which it did. Now that's a crazy bug. Plus I know for a fact there's been a lot of games that have broken elements straight from the get go that get fixed sharpish with the first patch. It's definitely not as bad as TC is saying though since 99% of the time the first few results has a quick fix.

Thermal paste doesn't fix it. The RROD is not a overheating issue. It's the solder becoming weak, the x-clamp fixes it, and in some cases, the ram solder becomes weak, the penny mod in conjunction with the x-clamp mod, and a rebake fixes them. I have done this to A LOT of x360s lol. (They are not mine)

Oh and about the overheating, I had just rebaked one 360, and it was operational again. I let it just sit for 2 weeks, next time I turned it on, RROD. So temperature doesn't do much.

That includes searches such as "PC won't do my homework" or "PC won't turn on" which are completely unrelated to gaming. Not to mention how long people have been searching the term "PC won't" in Google vs. how long the PS3 has been out. But I'm no disagreeing, the PC is generally unstable.

You kow what I think the issue is?

PC gamers know PC hardware. We buy quality parts.

Console gamers wouldn't know a CPU from a north bridge if their life depended on it.

So they buy the cheapest e-machine that fell off the back of a walmart truck and then wonder why their PC's suck.

Then they add some faulty logic on top of everything and conclude that since their super cheap piece of crap PC blue screens on them every month, it must be so for everyone else!

Never had BSOD, at least when I wasn't tinkering and cause it my self. However I am on my 3rd 360, before that 2 PS3s died on me, now the 360 started freezing. Point is my PC is OCed and way more stable that the consoles I have had.

And bsod occur regularly. I understand that, at very rare instances, bsod can be a user problem, but I'm sorry, this is a software/pc problem through and through.

could be that i buy high quality gaming parts seperately & your company uses pre built pcs.

more ram & video ram helps stability, especially if your using a new os.

yeah....any one trying to claim pc gaming is more reliable then console gaming

Kinthalis

That includes searches such as "PC won't do my homework" or "PC won't turn on" which are completely unrelated to gaming. Not to mention how long people have been searching the term "PC won't" in Google vs. how long the PS3 has been out. But I'm no disagreeing, the PC is generally unstable.

The Pc is generally unstable?

What a load of Bull.

Modenr operating system + modern hardware = rock solid reliability.

Hey, consolites, guess what runs the Damned internet?

PC's!

NOT consoles.

Rock solid stability? I have yet to find a combination of hardware and operating systems that doesn't hard lock, crash or BSoD at one point or another.

I'm all for PC gaming, other than the lack of splitscreen it's superior in everyway, but I don't understand the elitism. Why do people feel the need to insult other gamers' intelligence? How does that increase their gaming experience?

Now as many people here can tell you, I am not the biggest fan of PC gaming. But I have never had any problem running literally any PC game, so I sure you can see where I'm going with this...

Still more reliable than consoles... Depends how you manage PCs is a factor.
