i dunno i kinda regret the fact that multiplayer has become one of the determining factors of a game success ratio, people seem to care less and less about good ol single player romps, words from a gaming geezer i guess lol.

I love my singleplayer games. Always have.
Many developers these days are using multiplayer as a crutch for failing to deliver a quality singleplayer experience.

thats not true....many games are just made for online game in mind first......

The upside to this is we are already seeing the backlash with a few games concentrating on single player, Bioshock for one but I have seen a few others where the devs are stating they want to provide a good single player experence and not use MP as a crutch to prop up the games they design.i dunno i kinda regret the fact that multiplayer has become one of the determining factors of a game success ratio, people seem to care less and less about good ol single player romps, words from a gaming geezer i guess lol.

I prefer the single player play far more. The style I like best are RPG. I l like long single player stories. If though a game is being put out that is only 10-15 hours gameplay i would like them to add some online play to at least make it more worth the $60 purchase. if I play a RPG that gives 60-70 hours of gameplay with no online I feel it was worth the purchase but a game say 15 hours or below also without online I do not feel it is worth the money.Eltroz
I agree.Â

So true, and this is the smartest move that any dev can make in my opinion as well. As online should remain a bonus to the single player, which should always be the meat of the game as a whole. Afterall, a game's story is based on the single player campaign, lol. Who wants a rushed, thrown together, patchwork quilt of a game with a shallow story, but great online only?
If they are going to focus only on online with any particular title, they should just make it an online only game....like Warhawk for instance. The devs do not need to shortchange the people who buy a game for the single player experience alone by giving them a rushed 8 hour campaign, but with great online as the main draw, just so they can milk you for more later with downloads.Â
Gears of War comes to mind here. That games single player could have been SO much more than it was. Add in a few more levels, weapons, and a few more boss battles, like with BRUMAK for instance, and the game's single player would have been complete in my opinion. As it is though, it is fun, visually stunning, but extremely incomplete, very rushed, and far too short.Â
I just think when games are going for 70 dollars a pop they need to have excellent single player and online. I don't think any single player game is worth 70 dollars. Thats just my two cents.
Their's nothing like beating on your friends ina fighting game or grenading one your boys to death or talking trash ot a stranger online. Im sorry but at this rate single player is going to be a thing of the pass. Single player = Practice mode. Multiplayer = The game.Silvereign

So you do not want to play games that has a story in which you are the lead character anymore? Because multiplayer has no story, so you must just want storyless multiplayer fighting, racing, sports, and fragfest games, correct? Hell, playing through the story is what gaming is all about for me. To each their own though.

I think single player is as popular as ever but I just think that now we ALSO want multi-player in many of our games.
I think in this day and age that is pretty reasonable...

I agree with him to a certain extent, but i think single player will always have a big place in most games that arent fighting, shooting, and sports games. Single player will never be obsolete in RPGs, action adventure games, ect.MP games are fun, but in the end of the day, a GREAT singleplayer campaign wins out. I'll usually forget an MP game, but if i play a game with a great campaign and story, that will stick with me for years. Hence why i still find Starcraft and CnC's campaigns great and remember them to this day.

If I want single player experiences Ill turn to RPGS like FF13 and White Knight story and Oblivion or action games like Heavenly Sword or Ninja Gaiden 2. RTS, Fighting, racing and competitive games can't be competitive without a tough multiplayer mode.

wow im actually agreeing with this, but hes right. Certain genres and types of games need multiplayer. Games like Ninja Gaiden, Heavenly Sword, Zelda, RPGS, adventure, platformers, etc dont need multiplayer because thats the type of game they are, they are built on amazing stories and singleplayer.[QUOTE="Eltroz"]I prefer the single player play far more.
