It's Official: PS3 Has The Best Library Ever (Says Famitsu)

''Former Sony Computer Entertainment head Ken Kutaragi (above) may not be all that happy about how his PlayStation 3 is officially the heaviest game console ever released. But there's another statistic that he'd likely be more delighted to hear: According to a survey of Famitsu magazine's review scores, the PS3 has the highest-quality game library out of any console currently in the marketplace.

According to figures released in the current issue, 77 out of the 171 PS3 games Famitsu has reviewed as of the end of 2009 received a total score of 32/40 or greater, qualifying it for a Gold award. This means that 45.05% of the PS3's library in Japan is "gold" -- according to Famitsu's review staff, anyway.

This puts the PS3 just slightly ahead of the Xbox 360 percentage-wise -- over in Japan, 104 out of 240 360 titles reviewed got gold awards, 43.33% of the library. The good news continues in the portable realm, with 23.2 percent of PSP titles going gold versus 17.14% of Nintendo DS releases.''

True, but it has much more games released than the PS3.So even though the Xbox 360 has more 32/40 games, it's quaility/quantity ratio is lower than that of the PS3.

I have the PS3 and I agree...it has awesome games AND its the single heaviest console ever made.

Japanese game magazine rates Japanese console with extensive library of Japanese video games that cater to Japanese game tastes over an American console that has library that caters more towards American-European game tastes? surprise surprise.

My point is: QUANTITY =/= QUALITY. You might have more 32/40 games, but you have much more crappy games released as well.

ALso "better games" is subjective. There is a user here on SW that finds the iPhone games to be better than those on the DS and the PSP.

i must have missed alot of psp games cuz i thought its library sucked. still dont regret selling it, went towards ps3

I'd have to be pretty stupid to base the quality of a console based on percentages and not actual numbers. :P

so to you, a better library is the consistent one, even though it has much fewer games.... thats fine, but i would take a guess and say that the vast majority of people would rather have more 'good' games then a consistent library

1. Using Famitsu scores only does not make it "official"-- different reviewers have different tastes.

2. The XBox 360 is only 1.7% less consistant. Are you saying that that 1.7% is better than 27 extra good games?

3. The only "quality control" that Microsoft/Sony (and Nintendo) do is on first/2nd party games. The to force "quality control" on the majority of the games (3rd) party would only waste time and money. The only reason that the Wii has all the shovelware is because the cost to produce the games is relitively low compared to the x360 and ps3.

While you guys suck on your 1.7% we will play our 27 great games. :D that was fun

1- Never did I say that it was official.

2- For me, yes. Is there a problem?

3- But they should. The Wii has way to much shovelware and the PS3 and Xbox 360 are starting to suffer a bit from that as well, since the production cost are now lower then 3/4 years ago. Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft should aprove wheter or not those shovelware games are released to their consoles. IMO it would only benefit the overall quality of the games, and the costumer as well.
