What other system has reached this level of exposure in the media and gained so much love from the mass market? Answer is NONE. the Wii is set to take over this industry, this is just a heads up for te ndp figures tommorow ;)

As a side note, microsoft and sony should pay attention to this. instead of making their consoles expensive and releasing rehashed sequal after sequal, they should try and innovate. Hopefully next gen will see some real competition since thi gen officially belongs to the Wii, ds and nintendo :D

Considering they used a Playstation controller in the title of the report, I'd say the Wii has a bit of a journey ahead of it still.  Those seniors were surprisingly good at the bowling though.

The Wii's hype will die down soon. But why would you want a console to attract the elderly? So you can have more games like Wii Sports and less games like Assassin's Creed?

Yes great stuff now lets just hope Nintendo don't laugh off the hardcore following that has stuck by them in favour of this far easier to impress audience shall we.  Also this sort of thing does not help the Wii in SW sorry....

and here i thought we were dealing with someone intelligent. anyways, you have no proof whatsover that wii hype will die down. and ubisoft will have a version of AC on the wii, you can be sure of that, and as develper support moves over to the wii, you can say goodbye to all your little games

The Wii is a great system with some great games but do you really think it will be able to stay on the track it's on for long?

Lol I can't really see it happening either, if its anything like the DS its more likely they are a couple of decades younger.  I don't see pensioners in retirement home boosting sales a great deal, there was like 50 of them all sharing one Wii in that video...

Start making those claims when the Wii breaks PS2's record (if such thing happen), otherwise it makes you look delusional.

well of course.  most people have 250 to spend on a new gaming system. Its pocket change. An impulse buy. its going to be my 2nd console. mainly cause its fun and its cheap.  Its like when 2k sports first released their games.  many people bought madden but bought NFL 2k cause hey its only 20 bucks why not.  Personally i think its fun but gets played out. The main thing is the titles and so far its really not impressed in that department. but its a good 2nd console.

The Wii will not sell 100 million consoles. It will be lucky to hit 65 million.

Last time I checked the PS2 was at a 110 million and counting,I honestly doubt that the Wii is going to beat that.

QFT. It's no longer an opinion but a fact. If we keep the momentum going, it'll surpass PS2 or any console before it.

Nintendo has really tried to expand the audiences of gaming, and tried to change the image that society has of video games (teenage nerds and violent people who play violent games). After seeing the video, this is one step closer to reaching the goal that Nintendo has tried with the DS (which worked excellently), and now with the Wii. I think that a gaming console which can change the old image of how people thought gaming was, into a new and better image, is an accomplishment in itself.

Sheep are inconsistant. First they're about Gameplay. Then it was about 1st party games. Then it was bu...but teh devs need more TIME wit teh 3rd party games and teh devs are teh lazy". Now they're going bannanas because grandma and her friends are playing Wii bowling.

Sales matter now?

This pretty much proves that Sheep have been insecure with thier systems for 2 generations. Now that Wii sales are booming, Sheep are getting overzealous since Nintendo have technically been "vaporware" for 2 generations.

Don't get me wrong, sheep. Nintendo's strategy have been redeemed. And the Wii is a decent console. But it all comes down to GAMES. So far, I'm not quite feeling them. Nintendo have better keep in touch with the serious gaming crowd and offer something for them, and not just for the casuals, the grannies, the noobs, and the sheep.

the elderly are fastest growing demographic and will be so for many years to come. Lots of industries will want them just like that downloadable game company guy said.

sadly we don't have figures for this. I'm willing to bet though that more of them will buy a wii than any other console. and with more and more baby boomers going into retirement still wanting to be active i can see this as something they would like. Especially the virtual sports games that they can't do as much anymore. Those could be the hook to get them into gaming.

if you've every been in a casino or on a crouse, you'd know that there are a lot of elderly that send their days and lots of money on the slots and other entertainment. and it's not like they win. they just like doing something.

the Wii is what gaming is about, FUN.
