The Pokemon series is, by this point in time, notorious for receiving remakes to every single one of its games. The original Gameboy cIassics, Red/Blue received remakes in the form of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen on the GBA back in 2004, and Pokemon Gold and Silver, largely regarded to be the best Pokemon games in the series, were remade as Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver on the DS back in 2010.

The remakes add so much to the original games, modernize them beyond belief and stillsomehow manage to stay true to their source material. My question is, to all Pokemon players... do you find the remakes superior or the original games?

I like them both, and its hard to decide. But I voted for the remakes for the added features, remixed music, and graphics.

I liked the remakes because I still get that nostalgic feeling and playing the game how I remembered it.

The originals are still awesome, but they wont be the same as I remembered them if I were to play them again.

Well you pretty much stated the winner already.

Gold/Silver/Crystal were the best Pokemon games, and then they got remade (excluding Crystal of course) with added content and got modernized. Heart Gold and Soul Silver pretty much must be the greatest Pokemon adventure ever.

I prefer the originals mainly because of nostalgia.

I don't know. The remakes give me that nostalgia, while the new ones give me the sense of adventuring new places. I like both. I'm so glad Nintendo is doing both. EDIT: oh I read your OP wrong. Definitely remakes in that case.

The original pokemon looked cooler. Thus I like the original 2 more. Though I also like Gold/Silver.

The later ones "play better", but that's kind of overruled by the samey nature of these games. At this point it needs a shot in the arm to the formula.

Gameplay wise, the remakes. I had more fun with normal red than fire red for some reason though.

heartgold felt extremely dated, i was very disappointed by it. new games please.

EDIT: totally misunderstood the topic :P

the older games were fine by the standards from their time, while the remakes feel dated compared to the standards of the age they are in.

so i'll say originals.

The 1st gen hasn't aged very well at all so I'd take Fire red over red.

however 2nd gen has aged much better and i choose the originals over the remakes mainly due to nostalgia

I grew up playing red and blue, it wasnt until a year ago that i bought a new Nintendo handheld and a new pokemon game (Black) and the only reason i did that is because the battery on the gameboy color catridge doesnt last over 10 years.

It was pretty much the same exact game, with no nostolgia factor, they desperately need an upgraded battle system and needs to ditch the random encounters.

mine lasted more than that... granted i haven't played it since gen 2, but it still works (every now and then i check it to remember what i was doing before i stopped playing)

The remakes aren't bad, but never really one that I care for much. HG/SS were the best remakes of them all actually, where I felt they improved upon the original overall. I don't think we need a remake for everyone though. The GBA games and up aren't necessary to be remade frankly, not any time soon. Maybe the GBA game, but unless they really haul over R/S/E I won't bother. I didn't enjoy those games as much, and R/S/E has my most least favorite pokemon of the series. D/P/Pt were already made on the DS and B/W so no need to bother remaking those per se until maybe next gen.

Remakes, nicer visuals, more content. The only reason i'd say the originals is nostalgia and nostalgia is something I don't bite easily.

I liked FireRed more than Red. HeartGold was very boring though, it took a lot of the fun I had for the original :( I prefer the originals, but that's because of nostalgia. I'm not really a huge fan of the Pokemon series anymore - game is too slow-paced and not my style.

True, Pokemon follows a rigid structure each time. But every series is guilty of this. Every Uncharted game plays unmistakeably like Uncharted. Every God of War plays the same. Every Halo and Call of Duty and Gears of War play the same. Pokemon introduces enough mechanical changes with every installment to stay relevant and JUST fresh enough without alienating the series' fanbase.

Can't argue with that, if it stays the same it get called stale and rehash. If they change it too much it gets major complaints like with KZ3. There's literally no happy medium, it seems it's all down to pissing off the least amount of people.

I don't care what content was added, or how the graphics improved.

I am a fan of the Gameboy chiptunes of the original. I understand there's an item to change the music back to the original in some of the remakes, but it just wasn't the same...

Objectively, the remakes are better.

But there's something magical about the originals that put it above the remake. Call it Nostalgia or whatever.

If there's one thing that ticks me off about the remakes, it's the way they nickel & dime your time.

Every little animation seems to go on for just a second too long. I'm looking at you, Leftovers. :|
