Whats the reason for not getting the PS3? did you not enjoy what Sony had to offer last gen?

Why didnt you support MS last gen when they needed you?

For me, being a PS1 and PS2 owner (i buy all the systems each gen, every exclusive FTW) it was natural that i was going to get a PS3 based on track record, sure they didnt have any great games for a while and the launch price was ridiculous but a proven track record is enough for them to keep my business and it has paid off imo

So what happened that made you switch sides? What would it take for Sony to get you back next gen?

Not trying to start childish arguments, just curious as to how Sony dominates last gen and everyone switches despite having most of the same franchises as last gen and some great new ones. Maybe its just me but i have no problem purchasing trusted brands and Playstation hasnt failed me yet, just like i purchased a 360 and Wii, having enjoyed the riginal Xbox and Gamecube last gen.

It is stupid to buy consoles because of the name. Real gamers buy consoles with games they enjoy but company fanboys are the ones that care more about the company name.

So the 100 mill+ last gen obviously didnt enjoy the PS2s offerings or they wouldve bought the PS3 with the same franchises they enjoy. Its not about being a company fanboy at all, i buy the systems based on previous gens because i know they'll continue to deliver the same experience, i could care less for the company name, its about what system has the games ive enjoyed and know i will continue to enjoy. Next gen may be the first gen that i havent bought all 3 due to my disappointment with the 360

I had both, but I overall preferred the PS2. I bought a 360 because it was released first & Halo 3 was being released. Gears of War looked awesome also. I now have a PS3 also though.

Well at the time back in late 2006 i jumped from ps2 to 360 mainly because of all the jrpgs ms was announcing than. Sony seemed to have abandoned the genre and was focused on shooters and not much seemed to have changed since. But i own a ps3 now though

It came out first and people go for the cheaper stuff... then they defend the crap out of it.

Having all three consoles is great.

but back then it was more the hype of a new player in the console race and going from cartridge to cd which caused that. Its a fact Nintendo screwed up badly using cartridges over cd rom.

outside of internet gaming forums the average user would not know the 360 has better dev support, id put it down to releasing first, marketing and Sonys fail launch but what about now that its at a reasonable price? i just find it hard to believe there are PS2 fans that still refuse to get a PS3.

when sony finally got it's head out of the gutter I got a PS3

I've known people who have bought and driven nothing but Fords their entire lives because Ford vehicles have always done right by them. Being a fan of a brand or company's product isnt the same as being a fanboy.

Well I didn't have a XBOX last gen, I only had PS2 and GC. I always wanted a PS3, but at the time I wanted a 360 more. So I got that first and then got a PS3 later. I guess 360 was more appealing to me at the time, especially because of Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, and Last Remnant.

I have all consoles now and I still enjoy them all. One thing I want to ask Sony though is what happened to the JRPGs. PS1 and PS2 were JRPG heaven and PS3 just pales in comparison.

I honestly think there are more RPGs I like on Xbox then a Playstation system.

Didn't get into 7th gen until March of 2010. Bought a PS3 because I liked more of the exclusives it had to offer, and it didn't RROD. Didn't consider the XBox at all back in the day, but I must admit I was tempted by the 360. Lot of great games for it and performance is great. Maybe after tax season...

last gen i owned all 3 consoles plus a gaming rig (same as this gen), and i would have to say the ps2 was where i probably spent most of my time, but when Halo 2 came out for Xbox live me and alot of my real life friends where hooked (my friends also spent most of thier time on ps2) on xbox live. Needless to say when this gen rolled around 95% of my friends got a 360 and are content with just that (some would say thier fan-boys).

As for me I Love my 60gb launch ps3 it's by far my favorite console but i spend 70% of my time on xbox because that is where most of my friends are at.

I've known people who have bought and driven nothing but Fords their entire lives because Ford vehicles have always done right by them. Being a fan of a brand or company's product isnt the same as being a fanboy.

Why do people always try to compare consoles to cars it just does not make sense. If you did not delete 3/4 my post what you would say would make less sense. I am sure your friends would not buy a Ford model if they did not know it was good. So like I said real gamers buy game consoles for the games they like. The TC acts like just because people bought a PS1 or PS2 then they should just buy a PS3 and that is dumb. So people are supposed to buy a $599 console that took a long time to get a decent enough amount of good games just because of the brand name. That is company fanboy talk.

I had a PS2 and X-Box last gen and this gen I have a 360 and PS3. It took a long time to get a PS3 though because I was waiting for the games. I do not care at all about Sony and even less about the Playstion fanbase so no reason to run out and get it as soon as I can just because I also owned a PS2.

and thats fair enough because the PS3 launch was a big fail, i only got mine around launch because i wanted a cheap blu ray player (being on a 12 month interest free payment plan also helped ease the pain of $1000 AUS) and i could live with that while i waited for the great games to come. Any company that pulls that kind of launch again and ill definitely be holding off until more games come out :)

I dont disagree with ya man. I'm just saying at this point in the game I can see how being a fan of a brand could sway the decision between PS3 and 360 since the libraries are pretty even. I only had a PS2 only last gen, and the first console I bought this gen was the 360. I bought a PS3 about a year after it's launch when the price dropped and my 360 started giving me trouble.

No, im just trying to find out the reason for not wanting a PS3 if you enjoyed the PS2. Fail launch would've been a good answer instead of ranting on like a fool but im also talking about right now that the price is similar and it has the franchises people enjoyed last gen. This thread is mainly for those that have a 360 but still not a PS3 despite owning a PS2 last gen

no where did i ask why didnt you buy one at launch, im talking about still not owning one if they enjoyed the PS2. I think you missed the part in the OP where i said i buy all systems, somehow youve got company fanboy out of that

So if people buy the console for the games they like then i guess the extra 60-70mill fanbase didnt like the PS2 games that are being continued on the PS3?

and finally, everyone is answering properly except you, why u mad?

Alot of the things i own are made by sony, in fairness they do make high quality products. try listen to a zune(lol) or ipod after owning a sony walkman, the sound quality is the best on the market even if they lack in features.

you could say the same thing about nintendo 4 generations ago. Why did people who bought a super nintendo go out and buy a ps1 the next gen? PS1 had more dev support and alot of ppl loved teh system. This gen the xbox 360 is the best system with the most dev support so ppl buy that over the ps3.

blaznwiipspman1

The reasons that I went from Super Nintendo to PS1 was because the PS1 used discs and Nintendo stuck with cartridges and the PS1 used memory sticks and they had Resident EVil and Tomb Raider which were not on Nintendo. PS also played DVDs. When Nintendo went to discs and memory sticks I started to buy nintendo again.

Xbox 360 doesn't do anything that PS3 doesn't do, infact the PS3 does more than the 360 can do. So there's not much logic in going with 360 over PS3. You say 360 has most development support, but that's false. Infact there's more great exclusive games on the PS3 than on the 360. And the PS3 has all the same multi-plat games. The list of PS3 exclusives is longer than 360 and it shares all the other (multi-plat) games with 360.

I never wanted a 360 I waited for the PS3, I even waited for the price drop. My PS2 kept me entertained all that time. I trusted Sony so I knew they would deliver so I didn't care about the supposed "lack of games" which was simply not true and I just couldn't stop laughing about all the Wii60 coalition that formed over the internet predicting doom on the PS3.

That's true. One of the reasons I trust Sony is because since I have memory all the Sony products I have had have been of pretty good quality, exceeding over other options. Unlike Microsoft products which my experience with them has been exactly the opposite.

AlthoughI bought a PS3 at launch I had tons of reasons not to.

360 released first, with an excellent launch and future lineup(How things have changed)

The PS3 had a terrible Launch. Literally no decent launch titles (IMO) and at ahorrible price.

I sold it after a couple weeks for farmore then I paid (Good times) bought a new Slim when they released.

360 had better games and was a lot cheaper in the UK. It was a no brainer really. PS2 offered more last gen which is why I had one.

I did that because I was still mad at Sony for my friends PS2 dying with my game in it. But I changed back when around 2008 I noticed the PS3 was getting exclusives I was interested in and my brother moved with the 360 (Since technically he purchased it)

1. $599 2. Pathetic launch lineup. 3. When I got a PS2, it was for Christmas in 2000. I was 11 so I had no say in what system I wanted. I now own a PS3 (I'm not a fanboy, I'm a gamer. If there's at least three games I want to play on your system I'm buying it. It's also now my secondary platform behind PC) but $600 is absurd and Sony screwed themselves. Not just with me but with others. Don't insult me buy telling me a piece of plastic is going to instill discipline and the best game you give me is a mediocre Resistance. On the bright side (at least for us gamers) they built a reliable system this time around. Bad news for Sony, they won't get their inflated 100 million consoles sold since people won't need to buy 4-5 systems.

I had a ps2 and gamecube last gen and when I decided to upgrade I went with the 360 because it was $200 cheaper than the ps3 and it had a lot more games. A couple years later we got an hdtv for the living room and my wife wanted a blu ray player so we got a ps3 for that room.

PS3 really did not carry over anything that was important to the PS2 crowd; namely a high quantity of JRPG's, or high quality Japanese games in general. What good is a piece of hardware without the software? They were pushing blu ray down everyones throat and completely ignoring the gamer for the first couple of years of PS3's life. It was also obvious the system was having troubles just playing games at all, one excuse after the other why third party games ran so abysmally on their uber techno advanced system. Yeah, the first couple of year was rough on the ps3...and people just wanted to play games. The 360 stepped up to the plate and delivered. Now, as good as the PS3 has become now, it still has to work hard to overcome the early negative reaction.

I waited for the both of them to release, looked at their libraries and decided on the 360. To be fair, the Mad World commercial was playing all the time and it stands as the greatest ever.

360 was cheaper and out in 2005. PS3 cost more and was out in 2007. I should have waited though.

i'M A PS2 owner, best console evar! But this gen, PS3 released 2 years after 360 in Europe, with a 600 euro pricetag, and "No gamez!" 360 was half the price, had tons of awesome games. I have a PS3 now too for the exclusives, but I think the 360 is just an all round better console.

Well got the 360 as a gift and capcom went multiplat this generation leading to very little reason for a second HD system. The only titles I really feel I miss out on is the SEGA ps3 exclusives and a few smaller niche titles.

I owned just a PS2 before but spent a lot of time with the Xbox and liked it a lot. Probably would have owned an Xbox if I had the extra money or room. I have both current machines; 360 first because of Halo/Gears 1, other games and was the only console worth owning. PS3 was overpriced at launch, had no games, crabs, various disasters, etc, I'm sure we all remember its failings. If I chose 360 over PS3 then honestly I would have regret it after a while but it's good to have the best of both worlds and all that jibber jabber.

This is exactly right. PS3 still has nowhere near the amount of AAA, AA, A games as the 360. PS1 and 2 were easily two of the greatest consoles of all time, ps3 just isn't.

Well, there were a a few reasons. Price and lack of decent games at the beginning.
