Naw :P
I enjoyed Mario more then sonic. DK as well though not by much. I love sonic games but I don't feel any of them were as polished or long lasting as something like Yoshi's Island.

When I wrote boring other platformers in my earlier post, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, and Donkey Kong are exactly the platformers I was referring to. :P
I don't know, but it takes some effort for me to sit through a long session of one of those games (I haven't even finished DKCR yet), but I can play Sonic anytime, anywhere. They're just perfect in every way. 8)
Never get bored of Yoshi's Island. I love that game, so much to explore, such awesome level design, you can see the care and precision put into every platform, every power, every secret. I feel like that's just missing in the main sonic games. They really do reward memorization over skill on a first few play throughs which is something I personally find to be a flaw.
I think that's what I don't like about those games, and really like about Sonic. I don't want to explore everywhere or get different powers, but instead just want to race through the stage fast and skillfully. I like how they have multiple paths in Sonic, but they also aren't overbearing. You either go up or down, and they provide a few differences, but I'm not really going out of my way to experience each one; it just sort of happens. Same thing with the powerups too. You grab one of the shields, and it slightly alters the gameplay, but "they're quick and to the point," if that makes sense.
Well I've been playing Sonic for such a long time, so I don't notice any memorization stuff, but I think this just has to do with not experiencing one platformer as much as the other while growing up. Like for example, I have been playing SMW recently, and I will say memorization is definitely an important part of it. Since I don't know where platforms are, I kind of have to take it slow the first few times. I don't know how much time you've spent with Sonic, but my understanding is that memorization is a key role in all platformers.
