Hire a movie director to actually write a decent story for single player. Really now, what happen to stories in games nowadays. I miss the times when you beat a single player game and you feel good about beating it. Not just the fact that you got through the game but the joy having that story driven experience. Seems like all developers care about is gameplay and graphics. IMO, story goes hand in hand with gameplay. Graphics is just the topping to add too the experience. Am I the only one that feels this way?:|

MW2's story was action-packed and had lots of epic moments, but yes it was generic. I don't see why MW2 is the problem here. Lots of games, and movies, is like this nowadays.

the story in mw, and mw2 were pretty good...are you expecting good writing or something? you do know once you peel back most layers on movies they are just as generic as mw2's storyline...

I guess its more of that feeling after you watch(movie) or play through a game. A movie with a awesome story will leave an impression on you. I haven't had a game give me that impression in a long time. Isn't games just like movies? You play through or watch through to capture that element of story telling?

I kind of liked Modern Warfare's story. It's like with different movies too. When I go in to see an action movie, I don't expect emotional scenes. So it's pretty much the same thing with Modern Warfare.

Yeah because movie directors write decent stories for movies... You mean a screenwriter? For the record, a well known comic book writer wrote the story for Gears 2... we all know how that turned out. And besides, movies suffer from the same story inconsistencies that video games do. Once in a while you get a well told story (avatar for instance) but most of the time you get a movie thats all style over substance (Transformers 2) MW2 is in my opinion the Transformers 2 of video games. Big budget, sloppy story, fantastic set design and action. The same problems plaguing movies plague video games... don't think that mixing them will make them any better. If anything, they increase budgets and make a game that isn't supposed to be taken seriously into a campy game only serviceable by its gameplay (gears 2 and MW2 for instance)

Haha I didn't even catch myself typing that. Thanks for the correction..I agree with you for the most part but I think Avatar was a okay story, I think for the most part the movie is just visually pleasing and thats about it. The characters in that movie were dull and foregetable, the only one that actually stood out was the colonel or sergeant(not sure which).

Am I the only one who doesn't care about story?

Games have never had good stories. For video game standards it's sad how people say crap like MGS or Dragon Age is good.

If I want a story I'll read a book. For my games? I'll take great gameplay with a lot of replayability. If it happens to have a decent story, that's a bonus.

Go play an JRPG they have like 100+hours of gameplay and over the top stories instead of 5 hours Guns-Blazing Mindless action.

I enjoyed the writing and the dialogues, it's just the plot that didn't make a damn sense. Though it was still enjoyable.

MW2 made me hate them because they just ripped every movie scene known to man kind in that game. I felt like I was playing a movie because those scenes actually came from movies. Even movie license games were more original than this game.

come on nhh18, is it really that serious to hate them cause they made you feel like you was playing a movie? like I said, "The Rock" on steroids. the game was fun.

can't believe you actually sat there complaining, OH NO! this is from this movie, this is from that movie!

I respect your feelings, but damn dude, its video games, its not that serious.

Good point, but I've seen some good stories and universes in games. Of course unlike most mediums, at least gaming has an excuse (gameplay is most important). For your "it's sad" part, that's just your opinion.

It is true. I hate the game because I felt like I actually played the thing before, and just felt like a waste of time. I would easily have said mimic the movie to a certain extent but don't just rip the scene completely and make a game out of it. I wish Infinity Ward actually spent time creating set pieces, etc, instead of just mimic hollywood set pieces and getting the 'wow factor' like the terrorism scene and washington dc scene. Modern warfare 2 single player was a disaster for me.

MW2 is great, but I definitely think the MW series needs to evolve. The 2nd was practically a big expansion online wise, with only a few new perks and weapons, but with old ones removed. Its not that I have anything against what it has, but with the ACES and PEC in Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 and the MAG tier specialization system MW2's ranking up system feels a bit old school.I also feel like they could have taken cues from many other games to fix their spawn points and do a bit more for balancing instead of giving a player who does bad 10 seconds of 3x health he can run around the small maps with.
