Haha! True, they should really have the same username system XBL and PSN have. The idea behind friend codes was to make it safer for kids online or some garbage like that wasn't it? Honestely can anyone honestly say if a new nintendo system didnt have friend codes they would be put off buying ti in any way? Not a chance :|

It's probably a good thing that Nintendo has bad online. All their games would get corrupted by the evil DLC. They'd start selling Zelda dungeons and stuff.

exactly my thoughts. who seriously believed that having to punch in a 12 digit code just to find one friend for a specific game would be a good idea?

Good, they have time to improve it before 3DS is out.

Just make it so I have a friends list, and can see all the games they're playing, and join them while having voice chat availabe in every game and I'd be happy enough.

Honestly sometimes I forget the Wii has online. I'm indifferent on if it changes though, 'cause the games I play on the Wii I have no intention of taking online.

Expect NIntendo to revolutionise the online space with their next systems and competition to follow.

I havent got a Wii but whats so bad about it? Is it because it doesnt have a bunch of things il never use like netflix or is the actual online crappy? ive played MK Wii several times online and it felt really good.

Honestly Reggie, those are big words from a company whos online experience has been lacking. The greatest achievement Nintendo has to there name is Wifi and free online. Even Sony has both on there platforms.

"Now, what that looks like I can just about guarantee is unlike anything that our competitors have done to date. The reason for that is it wouldn't be innovative, it wouldn't be distinctive, and therefore, it wouldn't be Nintendo."Now, what that looks like I can just about guarantee is unlike anything that our competitors have done to date. What can Nintendo do that nobody has done.

Friedn codes are a good thing. They do a good job of pretecting minors and people I don't want to listen to online.

But, we need user-names and friend lists. Friend codes need to be on a system basis only. This whole idea of eacg games having it's own friend code is dumb. Once I have exchanged FCs with someone we should be able to play ALL games ever made for the wii online together. Wii speak should run in the background at all times and should come standard with the wii.

An anonymous username accomplishes the same result and is easier to remember, you can also mute anyone you don't want to listen to online.

After the fact...

I first have to listen to some idiot before I mute them.

Simply put, children do not need ways to communicate with strangers. Friend Codes ensure that people playing online together actually know each other.

Friend codes are a way for Nintendo to do a parent's job for them.

If you don't want your children talking to strangers over something like Live, you engage the parental controls. Then no one can talk to them unless you approve it.

Ive played that too. I remember the problem being lag and as MK has solid online, its probably due to the specific dev.

Anyway ive just read up on Nintendo Online and i can see why people despise it.

These comments from Iwata and Reggie sound much more like a better Wii Shop Channel than anything to do with online gaming.

At least Nintendo only screwed its fans with some of its practicality instead of over priced micro-transactions for everything.
