what the fudge is going on there? This isn't a temporary thing, it's been like this for a good amount of time, and sales have actually picked up since the release of tales and infinite undiscovery have gone by.

Really weird. Guess we cant make fun of the 360 now seeing as how its outselling the ps3 by a good bit

I never expected to ever see Xbox sell well in japan but i guess all the RPGs help. And the fact that its like half (dont get into technicalities i know its not) the size of the PS3 helps too.

MS should've been doing this in 2005. But they didn't know what they were doing - I mean, the Japanese launch had like 5 titles, and only 2 of them semi-appealed to the Japanese audience (RR6 and I guess Every Party?). MS waited too long to make a truly breakthrough in the Japanese market, but hopefully this gives them support for their next console.

Why do people get so shocked when stuff like this happens? If you decrease the price of a console that much of course people will buy it!

The 360 has more JRPG's than the PS3 does and now it's super cheap, of course it's gonna happen. I reckon it'll gradually slow down until a new JRPG comes out where it might spike a bit then drop again.

Dude its called a demand spike, we wont be seeing sales going back to normal for a while. Either way, if they can manage 5k weekly that would be a great success for MS, if they were to hit 2 million by the end of the gen, Japan will become a strong hold

Microsoft's commercials and game selections for Japan at the beginning of the generation were awful. They've put a lot of time and money into improving their image and product selections, which has finally started to pay off. When MS launched the Xbox, their goal was to put DirectX into the living room globally, it's a long-term vision, but we've definitely seen the early signs of success. Looking forward a decade from now, it will be interesting to see how they turn LIVE into a platform independant service (or more accurately, have it become a platform in and of itself without regard to hardware).

Really? I thought it was North America, especially console-wise (Europe has been a traditional PC stanchion for decades).

I will say that is at least head-turning. It's not everyday that gaijin get some measure of respect in Japan. Usually it's the result of fads or an acknowledgement of a market that's not Japan's forte. But electronics? And it's been going on for a little while now. We'll have to see how the holidays pan out. I say if it can hold out and show a good holiday in Japan, then they'll have at least gotten the proverbial foot in the door.

Let me explain something to you lemmings.

PS3 has a smaller install base than the 360. PS3 is outselling the 360 in every territory this year. By selling MORE than the 360 it is gaining ground (however slowly)

In terms of revenue Europe is, mainly because the Euro is doing well and the Dollar is doing poorly. When the dollar picks up again it will be the US again.

It has outsold the 360 this year by months in the U.S and you can't forget the sells that MSG4 got in Japan.

On topic: MS is advertising like crazy in Japan and its paying off to some extent. IU and Tales provided a good boost for Sept. (even though the PS3 had nothing to appeal to them, I thought it MS should have captitolized a little more). Nov should be a good month with The Last Remaant maybe, it depends on if Japan wants to wait for the PS3 version, which is one reason why I think they haven't even annouced an estimation on the release date for the PS3 version.

I overall think MS could do a better job then what they have been doing. TGS for them should be a make it or break thing for them, and unless they get the "big" one hint FF XIII or Dragon Quest in Japan, (or KH which I think is a series they should be gunning for) its gonna be get all you can while you can. I mean MGS4 sold well over thier and its not as mainstream as FF.

but the graphics!!! /sarcasm

I'm actually considering the ds for my rpg needs. There's only 4 rpgs i want from the ps3 and 360 combined.. can u ****ing believe that? That's a disgrace lol. From the wii it's currently 3 rpgs. I hope next gen they gather their **** up. I want a good story with good gameplay. I don't really care for cutting edge graphics.
