He already had it figured out last month. Heres a link to an article from late Feb.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070228/tc_nm/sony_playstation3_dc_1

To summarize: He said Sony will finally have enough consoles on the shelves to meet demands in NA. They will meet their target of 2 million PS3s shipped by the end of March, finally keeping up with the demand.

I lol'd when I saw that article last month and figured there would be a good time to link to it. It is now.

If Sony does get 2 million units on shelves in America by the end of this month, and the PS3 sells twice as many units (not likely) in March as Feb; there will be approximately 600,000 unsold PS3s up for grabs. I got these numbers from NPD.

I will save the '6 million worldwide' comment for later.

This is the same guy who would pay me like $300 or something for every PS3 on store shelves I could find,t hen he went later on saying that "He's glad PS3's are on store shelves" because it means one more customer can buy it? :?

Hilarious. The sales bashing is getting tiring. Woopitydooda, it's not selling as well as expected. I'm not a shareholder so I couldn't give a rats... and as long as PS3 games are still in development nobody else on this board should.

I read your summary, did a double-take, and went back to read his exact quote in the article. Sony bashing wouldn't be as abundant without comments like this.

You have to realise that Sony uses anything manufactured and shipped out of the plants (they could be in warehouses , on store shelves , on boats or trucks en route) so it doesn't mean they are neccessarily sitting unsold on shelves at that very moment.

And another point I would like to make although it may shock some , it doesn't seem all that unreasonable that the ps3 could sell 260,000 in March.

Umm if PS3 is on store shelves, how could this drastically change the situation at this point in time?

well sony cant ship it unless retailers want it..most likely they are still ordering it..and when they ship 2 million they wont bother doin it anymore until the ones they hve out there get sold out..6 millions WORLD WIDE sounds good..

Oh yeah whats wrong in shipping more ps3 out there?? i dont get it..even if they dont need it but its a good idea to have more ps3 out there..so who ever wants one can just go get one..

Two things: 1) If you overship now, you don't ship later. In November and December 2006 the PSP sold nearly 1.5 million units in North America. Know how many PSP's Sony shipped to NA during those months? Only 10,000 units. See what I mean? 2) Sony's definition of "shipped" is misleading. Shipped doesn't necessarily mean they shipped it to a retailer to be sold. It could mean they made the system and shipped it to a warehouse, awaiting purchase. So Sony shipping units is not indicative of actual demand, be it by consumers or retailers.

Did you miss the point about finally be able to meet demand and have PS3s in stock? If they need to ship 2 million to meet demand, doesnt that mean they should nearly all be sold? Or perhaps Sony just holds back its supply, just in case.

Those 600,000 units might come in handy in the event of a major catastrophe:) That catastrophe being all Wiis and 360s in existence suddenly explode.

This is "System Wars", not "Game Wars". And I'm just trying to show how far Sony has their heads up their butts in regards to the PS3.

Man, if they ship 2 million PS3s, Best Buy is going to have to buy a few new warehouses to hold all of those extra PS3s in.  120,000 sold in Feb =

Oh, we can argue about games, if you wish.  Then again, its not much fun arguing with cows about PS3 games versus 360 games.  Kinda like beating on baby seals...
