Not long ago, the folks at MegaBots Inc challenged Japan to a giant robot duel. Last night, Japan accepted, under the condition that the fight would involve melee combat.

Although this seems a system war on a whole different level. But the combination of cultural and technological aspects of the challenge is somewhat interesting to see lending its help to answer the question of which could be more superior at this, USA or Japan.

So system warriors, with whom will you be siding (rooting for)? And who do you think is the favorite to win (has a better chance at this)?

@gmak2442: Not much as Japan seeks for melee combat only.

Why wouldn't the Japanese not want a gun battle? Just cover the thing in kevlar and you'd be fine. It would be awesome to see giant robots slugging it out though.

The American mech is probably as underpowered as the Xbone! Japan wins by default.

Melee combat now? This truly did just become BattleBots on steroids.

Considering this might have unforeseen military applications, DARPA should back this with both financially and maybe offer some advisory support.

It's pretty obvious that Megabots could easily make that thing wield a .50 cal or bigger, so for people bitching about paintball, please, keep trying. That is not the point of the thing. Plus a robot gun battle would be pretty boring.

But yes. Japan will build a Gundam, and we'll be fucked.

Um... not System Wars material?

Let's go with that.
