A bad review doesn't always necessarily mean a bad game. Many reviewers don't put enough weight on the most important quality of a game. Much more important than impressive technical feats by the design team. Of course I'm talking about fun. It is not impossible for a game rated an 8 to be more fun than a game rated 9 and thus should be considered better game.

Edit: And if fun is subjective than so are graphics, sound, control, and story.

A few gameplay videos do not sum up the whole game. Its still averaging in the 80% range on GR if that concerns you.

Mario Kart Wii is the second biggest first day sales of any Wii game after SSBB, which sold 500k.
