The way I see it, there's only room for one big guy in Japan.
Even though it was Nintendo, they didn't do well last time, and the time before that they were probably off bad there too.
In a few months, the PS3 will be at 360-type numbers.joeblakThe scary thing is with Lost Odyessy and Eternal Sonata out soon, and no PS3 rpgs until 2008, the 360 very well might catch up. :o

How many people live in Japan?
You would think by now... Eveyone in Japan would already have a DS.
Sales for Nintendo are out of this world.
Who the heck would still buy a GameCube considering the Wii can play all of it's games at a decent price? :?BreakTheseLinksThat's how I feel about the GBA doing so well in NA. Glad it's doing as it should in JApan.

Truth_Hurts_U
I don't think the DS has overtaken PS2 sales in Japan yet, in terms of the Life-To-Date sales and the PS2 is a home console...a situation with 3 or 4 DSLs in one house is completely realistic so I guess it'll sell like crazy for some time to come.Â

That is shocking to me. DS might have outsold PS2 in Japan by the end of the year.Â

Well, there are 25 weeks left in the year or so? Maybe a few more?At 130k a week, the DS will sell 3.25 million more. But, the PS2 is still selling some ;).
It will be EXTREMELY close. Probably nose to nose.
32 weeks left. That's 4.16 million. (At 130k a week).
[QUOTE="colmusterd28"]Boy the Ps3 is really tearing it up huh.... HA HA HA HA the 360 is right on its heels

well to be fair, we're dealing with much smaller numbers down there ;)Â

Dragon Quest IX should see it through.Â

I want a copy of Dragon Warrior Monsters for the GBC again
That game pwned all other games.
Not too bad for the PS3 over the course of 6 days, almost 9,000 units in that time span is a decent number, not fantastic mind you.DSgamer64
It's not when it was selling twice or thrice as much a month or two ago, and when it's being outsold 6:1 by it's only real competitor... and when it's nearing the same order of magnitude than the 360 (which only the hardcorest lems will deny is a joke).

I just thought about that. DQ9 and the hoildays? Nintendo better open another manufacturing plant...like yestereday...they are gonna need it.
The DS being so popular and taking over the PS2 makes sense though...1 PS2 per house...how many DS units to a house? Still...crazy numbers.
Nintendo needs to let DS demos be dled through the Wii so it can ride the ds wave a bit more.Â
Regarding DS vs. PS2 LTD:
DS will pass PS2 this year. PS2's best years of sales are all behind it - it will be buoyed by the end-year holidays, but not to a degree even approaching what DS can do in November and December.
The only real question is whether it will happen before November or not. If it hasn't happened by November, that month's sales will easily push it over.Â

But 360 will take off with the release of Eternal Sonata, Naruto, Cirlce of Doom and Lost Odyssey

Yeah when Eye of Judgement and Folklore hits japan look for great sales for ps3. Japanese love card games and the ps3 is defining and bringing that type of game such as pokemon to life with Eye of Judgement. :)
Square Enix has to be sweating at this point, they love to bring their games to the console with the big userbases. FF or DQ would never be a lanch game since there would never be the installed base to support SE's budget. The PS3 is showing no signs of stopping the Wii from expanding the great divide between them. This could get ugly...fast.Majatt
Â
I agree, Square has always been a bandwagon whore.. I dont' think it will be Financially sound of Square-Enix to keep FFXIII exclusive if sales of the PS3 continue to be this bad. They would take a huge loss and never make their money back on their flagship game.
While this is still good news for Nintendo, notice how sharply all console sales are going down. Wii went down around 20k units in sales, and the DS Lite went down about 10k in sales, and similar patterns obviously apply for the other consoles as well.REVOLUTIONfreakThere could be a couple of reasons for that. The first is that Golden Week was a few weeks ago and the numbers could be coming down due to that. It's kind of like the holidays here in the US when sales go down after Christmas is over. The second reason could be that Nintendo couldn't restock enough units to sell.
