Jeff Gerstmann Has Some Esplaining (Purposely Misspelt) to Do

On the latest "Bombcast" he admits to never beating RE4 and thought the shooting mechanics were horrible :o, I didn't even know it was possible to start RE4 and not want to finish it...

The PS2 and GCN version of RE4 was unplayable, IMO. The Wii version fixed that handily, and I certainly will not be playing RE5 unless it has a pointer (a Wiimote, freehand remote, or mouse) to go with it.

Well, considering giantbomb.com is not yet an official gaming website since it has not fully launched yet, his stuff is full of his opinion. If, like me, you can stomach opinion without letting it get to you, then listen, if not, it's your discretion.

Hearing Jeff talk like that, I wonder more and more if he really likes his "Job". Besides he is an achievement whore, so yea, I guess he would beat RE5 for 100 achievements. I can't believe he is a gamer and does not like games like RE4 and Ninja Gaiden...BenGenio

From what I've gathered, the guy is a really finicky player. Can't stand to play Crysis, but loves Call of Duty 4, can't stand to play Devil May Cry 4, but loves Burnout Paradise.

I'd call him the stereotypical North American gamer.

Huh, nice of u to tell me something relevant from the "bombcast", i stopped listening those a while ago cuz jeff and ryan take 90% of the show to talk about coke and energy drinks :? it's so damn pointless.

Now on to the RE4 thing, i played that crap and i didnt finished it on my ps2, imo it was horrible it was FAR from being a "survival horror", it was some kinda of Zelda/Dino Crisis/MGS thing that made no sense and i hated it with A PASSION. For the guy who says it sucks on the PS2 and GC, maybe all the reviewers were stoned when they were playing cuz they gave it the highest scores ever or maybe u r 12 and too casual to be a gamer.

I personally found the wii version controls to be bleh...i say bleh because i'm not ignorant enough to say unplayable. MAybe coz i was use to GC controls..so much. I didn't even like the PS2 controls either.

lol I didnt finish RE4 either man. I bought it for the Wii even and I didnt really care for it. Call me crazy, but the game was more frustrating to me than fun. Stressed me out, lol. And the aiming was ok I guess, but it made me mad because you'd shoot the same zombie 5 times, 4 times in the head but he'd never go down. That was my experince anyway.

they only use the camera view, not the actual control scheme and shooting mechanics.

the shooting mechanics are still used, just not a lazer sight. instead we get way less immersive reticle on the screen yay! :roll:

and ok the control scheme yes, i dont like shooting with A. hopefully in 5 itll be aim with left trigger and shoot with right geow style

Meh whatever, "oh noes". I find it more funny that people "lose all respect" for him over one game. Obviously you don't have a lot of respect for a person if it evaporates because they're frank about one game. RE4's shooting mechanic on the GCN did have moments where it broke down in the game - specifically a few of the boss fights - where you can see how a Wiimote / Mouse just improves things. And when you replay it? I don't know why I'd want the GCN controller over a mouse - other than sheer fool-hardy-ness.

I don't even get how you can possibly be like "but he likes CoD4 and not Crysis" - yeah, y'konw what? They're not similar games - Crysis multi is rather mediocre compared to CoD4, I honestly can't say I blame him.

I've beaten the game and as a fan of the RE series...

RE4 shooting mechanics are lame. It also had a predictable story and one dimensional characters.

If it was a standalone shooter, you'd see its faults, but it isn't.
