i dont really like the art style for some of the games but i like the real time ones (the tales series, didnt like the star ocean game i played). I hate most of their voices though, they are terrible as a whole... not that many other genres have that much better voice acting.

i dont play any jrpg's turned base unless you wanted to count pokemon which i havent touched for a year or so since i cant get a ds. i only like turnedbase strategy games. IMO, strategy> jrpgs. unless we're talking tales of symphonia :) then they are equal.

JRPGs are like watching animes. And fans of both seem to be identical.

That being said, I found Diablo, The Elder Scrolls, Knights of the Old Republic, Fable and generally any WRPG to be better. They are just more involving and in many cases much larger (except Fable, it's pretty short.)

On a more serious note, I kind of wish they'd do so something innovate or maybe make a nonlinear game, or I don't know...something different.

Personally i do not consider JRPG to be real RPG's, more like a linear story driven movie based gamestyle, with some tedious battles thrown in to make it more addicitve

If you beleive "all" or "most" jprgs are linear, you need to actually pick up a few and play them :D

There is no best genre, only peference. I personally take RTS myself.

Each genre has something to bring to the table thats makes its great.

It's not really tho there are very few chances to actually control what the character does in a jrpg, i dont mean control the character but the actual actions of the character particularlly where it pertains to npc's and the story/quests. There isn't very much actual role playing in the traditional sense in Jrpgs, not to say that all wrpgs have role playing but generally those are marketed as action rpgs (D2 for example) but there are more "standard" wrpgs that fail on the role playing aswell (Oblivion).

I 'm not as big a fan of jrpgs as i was back in the 90s but i still find them enjoyable especiallly for the unique worlds they are often set, wrpgs have suffered from overexposure in the tolkien/dnd setting recently imo however there are a few space and PA titles coming up to break that up a bit.

It would be cheaper to buy a B grade fantasy DVD and flick through the DVD menus every 10mins with your remote, it's basically the same as playing a JRPG.

You misunderstood me, i LOVE JRPG's, it is better than watching a movie of course, and they are epic, not many movies are so amazing anyway, BUT when it comes to what i like BEST, that is the real RPG gameplay in WPRG's like Gothic, Fable, Witcher, Baldure Gate, Fallout etc, there is no contest for me, as RPG games WRPG's is the only choice, JRPG's are fun and all, but i am not playing them for RPG joy, but for pop-corn movie watching like joy

I don't like RPG's all that much, I'm going to buy Crisis Core when it comes out with Europe to see if I can get into it, I didn't really like Kingdom Hearts much or Monster Hunter and they were both action RPG's.

No. Maybe to Anime fanboys (I'm not saying thats a bad thing) maybe .... but tehg ameplay is stagnant, the stories are constantly rehashed.

Its like the sports games of role playing ... add a soppy love story or samurai like story, have boring gameplay, sell millions.
