IDK what the reviewers were smoking that gave this game anything less than a 9. IMO the first 10 of the generation. Better than Uncahrted 2.

The best game I have played since Resident Evil 4. If anyone wants to ask me anything go ahead. Game was brilliant.

Incredibly well written, great plot twists, fantastic pacing, story as original as gaming gets. Combat is fun and incredibly intense. I haven't ever experienced a game that let on this level of tension.

The games biggest flaw is that you can only experience it for the first time once.

For people that were intrigued by the premise and first details when Alan Wake was announced you will thoroughly enjoy it. If you were one of those who didn't see what the big deal was you will probably give it in the AA range and think its just pretty good.

No in fact I'm going to restart the game tomorrow. I'd advise to start on hard which is what I did. A good challenge.

Were you not as satisfied with the first playthrough as you would have liked? I ask since you're starting the game again.

I wouldnt say it deserves a 10 but my god was it a fantastic game. It really shouldve been longer and the story shouldve been a little stronger (holes explained).

Came out early in Spain and Italy, because everyone broke the release date there or something. In Europe it is out May 14, In NA it's May 18th.

No definitely was. I'll let you all know that this was my single most anticipated and hyped game this generation and while when the original vision and plans for the game were compromised my expectations dropped, along with the reviews. The reviews dwindled my hype to a level that this game then exceeded, in every way.

I thought it was odd that people were beating the game now.

Yeah I can't wait for the dlc. I normally hate it and it is obvious they are doing it for business purposes what with ms being their publisiher. But hey the game was so fresh and original I'll take more Alan Wake any way I can.

Forgot to mention that this game truly feels like you're playing a horror story and I think that is attributed to its pacing. It is never just solid gunplay through and through which a lot of games that try to be cinematic screw up on.

Also the scariest/creepiest game I have played, and I've played most of the big ones. This game is best described in superlatives IMO.

i was really dissapointed with all the bad reviews or well not AAA reviews. Good to hear that you lovedit, I mean everything I have seen including the first 30 minutes on Giantbomb really had me totally loving it. Maybe it was too short but I dont get all the bad reviews either.

Same here.

Im dying for the DLC.

I really hope the DLC explains the end and what not. Heard that the DLC chapters will be a "New Chapter/Season" like experience, not continuing Alans story.

Yeah I don't know I had like nothing to complain about. On a real scale I'd give it like a 9.8 but with GS system it'd be a 10 for me. Seriously all generation I have been wishy washy back and forth between what is the single best game I have experienced. Half way through this title and the answer was there, no doubt in my mind this is the best. I've played all the big block buster AAA/AAAA this gen as well.

Thats cool. Yeah the end quote kinda left you hanging.

I heard today they're planning a sequel. I honestly hope that isn't true. This game needs no sequel it would cheapen the experience. Alan Wake isn't some crime fighting detective or something.

He is the average man put in one extraordinary situation during his normal life as a writer. They can't keep throwing him into ridiculous situations I mean really what person goes through something like this more than once in their life

It is really not, the story is just kinda out there, like far fetched but lots of movies are like that. It is still a hell of a lot better than story/dialogue in a lot of games that don't get that knock like say Halo, Gears and so on. Even Mass Effect didn't have great dialogue. Its fine.

I guarantee Alan Wake would be the more polished, memorable story driven experience. But RDR being open world and more free means more dynamic gameplay which that leads to some great unscripted moments. Kinda how GTA 4 play sessions can end up and games like Crysis. They're two entirely diff games. I'll be getting RDR soon after release when I get some money :p

What I was thinking when they said that "...these reviewers can't be serious...so many other games have the worst one-liners I've ever heard...Alan Wake can't be that bad." But I'm glad to hear that you think it's not, cause I didn't wanna buy this game and have it be ruined by some stupid one-liners throughout the game.

Red Dead Redemption will be the better game. I was actually going to get Alan Wake on launch day until I looked into. I was also not going to even get RDR until I looked into it. Now it's switched around, not getting AW and getting RDR launch day. I'll probably get Alan Wake at some point in the future, but it'd be a rent (see Lemmings? I can do it too with your short exclusives :P).

I found one to be kinda off setting. but there was one plot twist that kinda threw me
Does Alan Wake exist because Thomas Zane wrote him/created him? The game mentioned the existence of the clicker but didn't really flesh out or capitalize on the fact that if Zane wrote Alan into a story as a child then he created him.
Barry Wheeler is really funny and later in the game when he's more distressed it becomes apparent he's voiced by the same guy as Vinny Gognitti from Max Payne series. Idk if this has been mentioned yet. Actually theres a TON of throw back tie ins to max payne for the old fans.

Thats the exact question I have and many people have on GameFaqs from what Ive seen. Im planning on playing again on nightmare and paying attention to EVERY detail and read the rest of the manuscripts. There's still quite a bit a feel Im missing.

I hope that what you stated is approached in the DLC.

well, everyone is giving this game around an 85, or 8 or 8.5 or 4 out of 5 stars and everyone says its not scary and predictable. so in my eyes its not a 10, but cool. can you tell me how much hours it took to finish it?

Unfortunately there is no timer at the end of the game to say. Ep: 1 is about an hour. Ep: 2-6 are each at least 2 hours. One of them was around 3. I'd say about 12 hours total.

And really I don't see how you couldn't find the game scary.

Some reviewer said it was decent but not RE4 level scary?! WTF RE4 is my fave game of all time but I wouldn't call it scary if you paid me. Maybe they played it in broad day light with low sound. I found it fitting for me that i finished the game while a thunderstorm raged outside my window  no joke.

Oh man, Silent Hill 2 and Fatal Frame 2 are absolute musts for the horror genre. They are easily the two scariest games I have ever played.

Silent Hill 2 literally screws with your head. It doesn't have a bunch of crap jumping out at you. It has tons of subtle things that just create an atmosphere of insanity and honestly had me at a point one time where I had to put the game down because I felt it was really screwing with my head.

Fatal Frame 2 however has the greatest jumps you will ever get in a game, not all of them being scripted either. It also has really unique gameplay and some great story elements (the Kiryu house has such a great backstory to it.).

But yeah, as for Alan Wake it is good to hear all these positive things about it. Will have to check it out eventually. Unfortunately since it is single player only that means I will be waiting for a WHILE to go get it, so I can let the price drop and buy the good multiplayer games while they are newer and more expensive to experience the live community.

Good mix of suble things, atmosphere, some great jump scares but more just tense. It isn't quite scary but more tense, and a level of tension is there that no game has ever left me feeling. It makes you genuinely unnerved and uneasy to move forward in a few of the chapters.

The setting, music and creepy wind really set the mood sometimes but it not a scary game. Its good for a jump or 2.

Maybe if you play with surround sound, in the dark and constantly explore te darkness it can be pretty scary.

No. its not really about that it is the sound really and the way the enemies just appear in front of you.

I swear, the game is so good but the whole time I played it all I could think about was how it couldve been better.

For example, birds can attack you, why didnt they add other animals? Like hunting dogs or mountain wolves?

Another thing is how the enemies could lay bear traps. Why ddnt they add more too the mix? Rope traps, attack dogs, etc.

Its was already quite clear that the taken are hell bent on killing you but they couldve emphasised it a bit.

I think it just scored a little lower due to impossible to meet expectations for the game. for that last 5 years it's the one single game that lemmings have been backing when all else failed. Sure they also jump to Halo but that's a well established franchise. AW was supposed to be so good that it claimed GOTY two years in a row. NOBODY could meet the expectations everyone had.

I heard from many reviewers that the dialog is really cheesy...

I "heard" the same thing. TC, if you honestly believe that the protagonist of a story narrating his life in the most literal and simplistic ways, e.g. saying, "birds" when he sees birds fly by, is tantamount to being "incredibly well written..." then you do not know what "incredibly well written" is. I am surprised GS gave it an 8.5, and I can't wait for Ben Croshaw to review this game.

You haven't even played the game. That happens rarely, it isn't all mundane simple observations. That is one of the few. You don't even notice it most of the time. It just accents the gameplay. Max Payne had the same thing.

Realize that it is more tension and unsettling atmosphere than omg this is scary out of its mind. It is nothing that hasn't been done scary but it is just executed flawlessly.

The game is out and i still don't know if its even 720p imo. If it was 5h+ longer i would have bought it day one without hesitations but since its only 8h long i'll just rent it :( . Sad becouse that was my most anticipated game since E3 2005... really sad.
