I'm just gonna gamefly this since its short, but ive been anticipating this game for a long time. The dialogue ive seen and heard so far is/was ridiculous though developers/publishers really need to get better writers cause it sort of takes me out of the game, it's weird to laugh when your supposed to be scared in a horror game.

The game is out and i still don't know if its even 720p imo. If it was 5h+ longer i would have bought it day one without hesitations but since its only 8h long i'll just rent it :( . Sad becouse that was my most anticipated game since E3 2005... really sad.silversix_
Most people who really played the game finished it around in around 15 hours, not 8. I haven't met a single person who'd finish it below 10 hours in his/hers first playthrough!

I watched a play through of the first 10 minutes and it felt sooooooo Max Payne. Did you get that feel at all from it? I say that in a good way as Max Payne and Max Payne 2 were easily some of the best games of last gen. Atmospheric with great game play and story.

Most of people say it's in range of between 12 and 16 hours. You have to remember there's thermoses and manuscript pages, so I guess it would take around 20 to get them all.

Every reviewer that mentioned A.W's lenght was 1-2h per chapter and there is only six of them... If it was like 10chapters each 1-2h long then Alan Wake would have been wut i've expected but it isn't, sadly.

The combat got too repetitive for me personally. Shine light, shoot, shine light, shoot. Using flashbangs was better but the game just felt too repetitive for something with that much development time. Interesting story though and i liked the previously on alan wake at the begining of each chapter.

Theyre selling the game in Poland since nearly a week :S Im quite impressed with AW...after reviews i expected much worse game. Very atmospheric....story telling is brilliant and the visuals are suprisly good (while characters arent as good as U2 onec, the lightning is definitly best on consoles + itsone of the very few games console games that is jaggie free). However fights gets abit repetative (alltough very exiting), and id like to have more gameplay during daylight. I loved AW but i dont agree with TC that it deserved a 10..for m its 9.0..not more not less. One of the strongest titles of 2010 so far (but i praise ME2 and GOW3 much higher).

I agree, I have just started episode 4 and I find the combat repetitive, it grew old fast - The most exciting it tends to get is sparking a flare or dropping a flashbang. Thoroughly enjoying the story though, from what I have played it deserved the score it received.

he means illegal torrent file share or whatever. naughty. many people in mainland europe have had their copies early. I know for a fact that game and probably others in the uk dispatched early. this is probably due to the volcanic ash cloud thats caused travel chaos and delayed mail all over europe.

Yes but illegally. Major screw up though Alan Wake and Lost Planet 2 being available free, weeks before it would be in the stores.
It is really not, the story is just kinda out there, like far fetched but lots of movies are like that. It is still a hell of a lot better than story/dialogue in a lot of games that don't get that knock like say Halo, Gears and so on. Even Mass Effect didn't have great dialogue. Its fine.blues35301

What I was thinking when they said that "...these reviewers can't be serious...so many other games have the worst one-liners I've ever heard...Alan Wake can't be that bad." But I'm glad to hear that you think it's not, cause I didn't wanna buy this game and have it be ruined by some stupid one-liners throughout the game.

Barry Wheeler is really funny and later in the game when he's more distressed it becomes apparent he's voiced by the same guy as Vinny Gognitti from Max Payne series. Idk if this has been mentioned yet. Actually theres a TON of throw back tie ins to max payne for the old fans.

Oh man I didn't notice that! He sounds kinda different though. I felt so bad for Vinny G. in Max Payne 2 when he was in the captain baseball bat costume with the explosives in the head. Poor, poor Vinny....

I gotta find some clips of Barry now to see if i can hear his voice.

Forgot to mention that this game truly feels like you're playing a horror story and I think that is attributed to its pacing. It is never just solid gunplay through and through which a lot of games that try to be cinematic screw up on.

Also the scariest/creepiest game I have played, and I've played most of the big ones. This game is best described in superlatives IMO.

Yeah it is all opinion see. I thought ME2 was really boring and I absolutely loved ME1. It had a better story although 2 had better combat. That game was the definition of repetitive though. with some of the missions.

Came out early in Spain and Italy, because everyone broke the release date there or something. In Europe it is out May 14, In NA it's May 18th.

I'm italian and live in Italy and 99% of the shops didn't break the release date, so very few people got it already.

There is actually a ton of the same voicework for characters The female sheriff in this game is the same voice as the female cop in Max Payne 2 that has a very very brief role when Mona breaks out of jail.

If you were a die hard Max Payne fan you'll love the connections. To me Max Payne are 2 of the best games ever made.

Started my second playthrough and the game is still pretty damn good. Like I said in the original post though the major flaw of the game is only being able to play it for the first time once.

No I actually thought they were pretty damn good overall. Not quite Uncharted 2 level but the game is on a bigger scale (though still linear) so its acceptable. I found no problems with the graphics they were as good as I hoped. I definitely think it is the best looking 360 game.

Well it was advertised more as a thriller and that suits it. It isn't scary per say but it is incredibly tense. The game creates and makes you feel more tension than any other game (that I have played at least). It was scarier than I thought it would be for what its worth.

IDK what the reviewers were smoking that gave this game anything less than a 9. IMO the first 10 of the generation. Better than Uncahrted 2.

The best game I have played since Resident Evil 4. If anyone wants to ask me anything go ahead. Game was brilliant.

Incredibly well written, great plot twists, fantastic pacing, story as original as gaming gets. Combat is fun and incredibly intense. I haven't ever experienced a game that let on this level of tension.

The games biggest flaw is that you can only experience it for the first time once.

For people that were intrigued by the premise and first details when Alan Wake was announced you will thoroughly enjoy it. If you were one of those who didn't see what the big deal was you will probably give it in the AA range and think its just pretty good.

blues35301
glad you also enjoyed the game. reviewers are just people, maybe they were expecting something more epic than epic, dunno, but one thing for sure, when a new Ip gets 8,5 here on GS, it means the game is a must buy.

Yeah I figured it might be due to it being a new IP the reviews it is getting.

Not in the day scenes. obviously. And in actually one night scene you don't have a flashlight just the gun, which is useless aside from flares and flash bangs. But that only lasts for a few minutes. There are other intense moments where you have your light but no gun and have to rely on things outside of your control. I'll leave it at that.

Progressive lighting? Or cutscenes to day and night? About how many day scenes? Thanks

Really, do you really carry a flashlight the whole game...

Aboogie5

Not in the day scenes. obviously. And in actually one night scene you don't have a flashlight just the gun, which is useless aside from flares and flash bangs. But that only lasts for a few minutes. There are other intense moments where you have your light but no gun and have to rely on things outside of your control. I'll leave it at that.

Progressive lighting? Or cutscenes to day and night? About how many day scenes? Thanks

It has no day night cycle. Just scripted timings. Day sequences usually start each episode and last maybe 15 minutes at best. They are a real relief though after the intensity that takes place just before them. Trust me you will be glad to see the light of day in this game. Minor spoiler but nothing really major
There's one part where your going about your business in the day and in an instant its night, as if you blacked out while walking but never missed a step
